It's ever so slightly different and actually varies slightly from weapon to weapon, I know, odd, also, what were you using to import them into the game, I noticed in your description you mentioned that using the higher res ones made it look weird on your resolution, did you not apply Mip-Mapping to the textures? Or did you use TXD Workshop?

Yeah, you'd think they'd switch to ScaleForm or something. ;) It's actually done that way on Android and iOS, and the game must do something with them as the icons look fine on all resolutions, whether that applies to the PC version too I have no clue, but from what he described sounds like a side effect of the game just going for the highest resolution and just throwing it out, which I believe San Andreas did in the past if you went beyond 128x128 for certain textures, but this was back when I edited with TXD Workshop, I've not messed with those kind of things since.

TXD Workshop it was. I'd like to try a mipmapped version if you'll do one.

Then it becomes the curious case of why did Rockstar mipmap them on mobile. Unless it's another mistake on their side.

Anyone ported tattoo icons from mobile versions? I believe they are in better resolution. Arent they?

what about the cutscene characters ? Mobile ones look so much better plus have fixed fingers and all that

A quick question:

I've been using the mobile palm trees for some time now and realised that only a handful of them are mipmapped. Some look so smooth that it is plain awesome for such an old texture and the other ones look so harsh that you can't tell if default or mobile:

​Obviously the ones on the right are smooth and the ones on the left are not. I hope you see the difference....

​If it's a mistake on my side, tell me. If not, can anyone tell me if there are mipmapped LV-palms on some devices? If they forgot to mipmap them, maybe someone could do the job to make the palms more even. Just a suggestion....

I can't believe that I didn't know this existed!!

Any textures worth getting from the Android gta3.img, or should I just stick with the ones listed above it?

Unless they're the PS2 textures mipmapped, we don't really need them.

Remember what uokka was saying, well we had a look into this, and tried out different rendering methods for the weapon icons, and it turns out, we got Mip Maps working with Weapon icons, at lower resolutions it will use 64x64, 1024x768 onwards it will use 128x128, and higher resolutions will use the 256x256 ones, the game will now decided which resolution to properly display in proportion to your chosen resolution. What you're seeing in the picture is the game displaying the different modes tried, and we've settled on the middle one for weapon icons, which is bilinear filtering and mip maps.

 

It will be included in SilentPatch and I'll be repacking weapon textures to accom this new feature.

Sounds interesting. Will apply for all 2D stuff? Map Radar...

Can do, HUD, RADAR, BLIPS, etc, any on screen sprite based function can be toggled with this, but really, I've only seen quality crush happen in a few areas, one of them being Radio Icons in the Audio Menu, and now here with Weapon icons thanks to uokka pointing that out when playing on smaller resolutions.

Sounds great.

If possible, please provide an override option in the INI in case it looks crappy on a certain resolution or if non-mipmapped TXDs are used.

If non mapped TXD's are used, the game will treat it as normal, just the filtering will be better, if you're using the original 64x64 ones from the game, you won't even notice a change.

Yeah, but anyway, you guys can't test under every condition so the more options the better. If it's not a hassle.

E: Like if I have a nice weapon mod installed which I can't extract the textures from but don't want to use mipmapping on the HUD.

Give me an example then.

 

IF THERE'S NO MIP MAPS, the game will continue as normal.

 

What else is there that you think could be a problem?
