GTA San Andreas Mobile Modding

Recommended Posts

You'll have to wait for nick to figure out the swizzle. There are no TXD (OK, I lie, there's one, just plant1.txd) everything else has been shifted to the texture packing style used on VC Mobile, which TXDf*cker CAN open, but right now just displays garbage because the style hasn't been figured out yet.

I wonder if it can still load PC TXDs like GTA3 could. Anyone tried yet?

Yes Ash, you're right. The file that contains the radar icons is called txd.txt, but it's messed up on the current tools

new cache format is NOT compatible with current TXDf*cker version, but I'm working on it.

now i've starting to figuring out to new cache format. it's not a swizzling, it's very noob compression.

second DWORD is a control char. every time it present in a raster data the pixel after repeats several times. lol.

I've not tested yet it on all unknown textures, but seems there are no swizzling.

Nice work nick, noob sounds about right for this. :p Speaking of that, I've done some tests using OGG to get the file size down to a similar area that War Drum have packed for the game-

Welcome to the Jungle: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/49393425/wttj.ogg

YEAH, that's nearly the same file size, so War Drum removed OGG and then replaced it with MP3, ...*shrugs* I have no clue why they would do that.

Anyone tried running on a iPhone 4s? Laggy as hell. And they removed Running Down a Dream, the best song of SA.

Anyway, nice work you guys are doing. I agree about a replacement of the hud and radar icons for PC, they look much better on mobile. And if anyone are interested on a challenge, why not try to bring the so called "enriched color pallete" to PC...

Somebody with an iPhone 5/5s upload their gta-sa.set file. I have no vehicle reflections, and only CJ has a shadow.

Max settings -- http://rghost.net/50902059

Could someone download this and reupload it to another fileshare site, i crnt download from that site for some reason

I understand this game was sort of.. butchered on its conversion to mobile, but cut them a break. Phones aren't meant to be for games. I'm amazed that they almost halfed the size of San Andreas on the computer.

Modding would be a great great addon for mobile users (I see it happening, it's practically the PC version just without the txd files in the gta3.img) but is it a necessity?

Somebody needs to make a mod that allows you to move the camera well in aircraft for VC and SA mobile. I broke into the airport and stole a jet, and discovered that your not allowed to move the camera. Reason why? Absolutely no good reason except that they are lazy.

Can anyone give me a look at a mobile save file? I'd like to check for compatibility with existing save editors.

Not possible because the mobile save game file is 254kb, while the pc is 198kb.

I tried moving a PC save to mobile but it didnt work.

They removed the song Running Down a dream? Are they f*cking nuts?

I had such a great nostalgic memories with that song. This time I'm not buying any phone for it. I'm literally serious.

A reduced game? Nope, :GTA SA PC all the way!

And to topic. i already read the timecyc.dat from the mobile version is identical to the PC but there

is also a file named colorcycle.dat. Can't that be renamed to timecycle.dat? OLr could someone send me that file

and I'll check it myself.

It's NOT a timecyc, it's colorcycle, so it's got its own entries for the colour filter, you can't just rename that to timecyc they are literally different files, the game wouldn't know what the hell to do.

A bummer. But screw that. Long live the 10 years old GTA SA.

We'll need to wait until Android release and see how the textures looks. In Vice City they looked like minecraft... Also, are the Graphics Settings missing? They were there in III and Vice City... Hope my Galaxy Note (the first one) can handle it at Mid-max settings.

Alternate image for topic first post ^_^:

I don't think we see something new, just a PC textures converted to DXT / ETC1 / UNC. Edited by nick7

Not possible would mean the save is encrypted or the file contains some meta data that will force the save to be rejected if modified, otherwise there's a pretty good chance I can make some modifications with a hex editor. Save editing is my specialty.

Also, I'd like to know if saves can be shared between mobile devices, and anything we might need to know to enable save sharing with gtasnp.com.

Please, let me see a save.

The sh*tty audio is why the app is smaller. However it makes no difference to me. The speaker on my iPod sucks anyways.

As Ash has proven, it is totally possible to get the audio down to roughly the same size without as much of a quality loss.

playing gta sa mobile with headphones is so terrible :( i know mobile devices have not that big amount of space but ew.. I hope i can replace it with the original ones. Haha really, they really used SAAT to extract/import audio files? Fantastic xd

That's what I was thinking, at least it's a better fare than what warez groups did when they squeezed SA to a 600MB release by blanking the audio out.

Then again as what Ash pointed out it is possible to rip and downscale the audio without any significant loss of quality.

(Yes the quote is f*cked up)

But, what about licensing? There might be need to buy licenses for said format, and as a game company, for such small release, it wouldn't be profitable to choose one which costs a lot.

Here are some of my observations:

*Most audio are 22050Hz low-bitrate VBR stereo, or mono compressed mp3 files, zipped inside osw files, which are easily opened in WinRAR. There's a idx file besides every audio archive, which lists all the files, and possibly some stuff about every file.

More shocking info in Ash_735's post below.

*There's an interesting file called: colorcycle.dat. Maybe its an addendum to the timecyc.dat, giving more variety of the colors in the game?

*The timecyc.dat file is the same as in the PC version.

Quick comparison of colors, Mobile vs PC:

Rl0AUNjl.png0tBUo0Wl.png

This is the pc version of the game, converted to ios but how,the fu*k,did they add such a fine sky color?!The orange color from the ps2?!Thousands of tries to import that color from ps2 to pc but no success ,until now i guess?? Is colourcycle.dat responsible for that?!Can it be converted to pc ? It is almost exactly like the ps2 version of the game! Can someone upload it to mediafire please or something?

Indeed the updated engine got loads of more things to do with different colors being rendered in screen rather than PC version. You know, nine years since the release, and phones are almost as powerful as the PC's used to be back in the day. Anyways, gibberish gibberish gibberish, I don't think most people will actually benefit from those speculated "high quality textures/models", since most of them, at least on iOS-version, are pretty much the same as on PC-version.

You said it ''most people'' and not everyone. And yes the texture may be the same, but the color of the screen/sky is just..amazing.What i meant in my previous post what if someone can bring it to pc,it will be easy enough...

http://sannybuilder.com/dev/GTASA_IOS_SCM.rar

main.scm dissasembled with Sanny Builder. I will release a new version of SB with iOS support on the weekend.

SCM changes comparing to the PC version noticed by me so far:

* a few new opcodes (mobile-dependent and debug ones)

* some new missions (2 players?)
