A hard salary cap? I won't get into the macro specifics of why innovation is essential to an economy, but consider an example. I'm an entrepreneur on the cusp of starting a billion dollar company. For simplicity, let's assume it's a tech startup. There is a multitude of first world markets in which this type of business would thrive, and I now have to decide where I'll start my company. The US decides that CEOs can no longer be paid over a certain amount. Clearly, I'm going to choose to move to another country where my future potential income isn't limited, and the country I move to will benefit from me having started my company there.

 

Let's not forget that this hypothetical company would have created thousands of new high-paying jobs for Americans. The reason why the American Dream exists is because capitalism favors innovators. That's why so many of the world's MNEs started here.

 

Increasing the role of the government is an entirely separate debate, but considering we run an annual $1t deficit, I don't think we can afford the services the government already provides, and there's no way they could raise taxes universally by 50% to compensate for the difference without scaring a few million people out of the country.

I think that's a large part of the problem, the bottom line is money and nothing more. This hypothetical company isn't satisfied with being a multimillion dollar company while helping improve the culture it exists in and because of? People used to sacrifice for the greater good and still get rich, I mean Henry Ford rich, but now it's just greed gone wild. And no titties either, just oppression and dehumanization of the lower classes, which are growing as a percentage of the population to a dangerous level. We are approaching early twentieth century style corporate power and before the government sends the national guard to break a strike (not really relevant since unions have been hamstrung and pushed out of the center of business) I want to see change.

 

The US could eaisly afford to increase it's social programs to almost an infinite degree if it cut spending in other arenas. Defense immediately comes to mind...

Again, don't you guys ever learn? No one is getting banned - especially not people who were randomly gifted money. It's not their fault, it wouldn't be fair to have them be reset. Either their money will be removed or nothing at all will happen.

Lets use our senses and stop acting like drama queens: Rockstar isn't stupid enough to ban a huge portion of the community - especially when it comes to incidents that they had no control over preventing.

Why shouldn't the company care about the bottom line? The fact of the matter is, people are selfish. I'd be willing to bet that you've done something selfish today as well, and that's okay. It's human nature to want nothing short of the best for ourselves. Consider Steve Jobs, who notoriously paid himself $1 for 9 years, and acted in the interest of improving the company and the welfare of his employees. Sure, he was an asshole to a lot of them, but he enabled thousands of people to live better lives by creating his company. But as selfless as his salary reduction was, do you think he would have started Apple in the US with a strict salary cap? He wanted to change the world, but he also wanted to incentivize the people who helped him make it a reality. The point is, the idealistic culture you speak of wouldn't have cultivated the company that can afford to give back.

People are selfish, me not withstanding. But my selfishness is limited in both scope and ability, when you have a lot of money/power/influence it is your responsibility to look beyond your selfishness and help those you can, prop up your culture because it makes YOU bigger as well. A rising tide lifts all boats, but that tide needs to be evenly distributed.

 

We obviously aren't going to convince each other here (which is a good thing) but appreciate the opportunity for discourse without insults. That is something I bet we could agree on, the conversation in America has gotten wildly out of control and if we can't talk to each other (we are Countrymen and probably have more in-common that we care to admit) with respect, we are doomed as a nation.

Party polarization is a different debate, but it's something that has really started to bother me. It's not that we're limited in our decision, it's that both parties churn out increasingly stereotypically extreme candidates, whereas most people tend to gravitate more toward centrism. We're often forced to choose based on personal affiliation rather than genuine agreement. I'm not naive enough to think that there's a candidate out there that would perfectly model my personal beliefs, but I found myself disagreeing with both candidates equally as often (granted, on opposite issues) in the most recent election.

even our bank account statements (gta online of course) show that it was given to us if anything and its just a theory of mine based on a youtube video that has not been verified is that all our money will be taken away but the things we own will remain in our inventory (cars, property weapons etc) and it also includes 1 month and 2 days in the dunce pool regardless if we are victims of them billions being gifted to us.
