Well Pre-Order has just dispatched from Amazon UK so looks like I'm sorted for Wednesday evening (hopefully Day 1 update won't take too long)

18 446 744 073 709 551 616 planets to explore and galaxies made 10 times larger with day one patch. :O

Eighteen quintillion;

four hundred forty six quadrillion;

seven hundred fourty six trillion;

seventy three billion;

seven hundred nine million;

five hundred fifty one thousand;

six hundred sixteen.

I'm actually surprised this game costs only what it costs.

yeah, it's not like they made each one from scratch or so.

In one week at max, you'll have seen it all. If the animals on planet x are blue or yellow or have 3 or 4 legs, does it really matter?

What I really dig is the seamless transition from planet to universe, really cool stuff.

I just spent a couple of hours watching a stream of someone playing it and it's definitely, definitely not going to be a winner for anyone that craves excitement in their games. There were a few hairy moments, yeah, but it was mainly shooting stuff up to get resources to sell or trade. They were very clearly in the earliest stages of the game though, so that's no indication what it would be like after playing it for a while.

It did look beautiful though, and it played smooth as anything. The whole exploration thing looks incredible too, even underwater.

Obviously I'll reserve judgement till I've played it, but this is the most excited I've been about a release in nearly 3 years.

I expect the earliest stages of the game to be slow. it's supposed to be a marathon rather than a sprint.

so yeah I really like what I'm seeing so far. hopefully I'll pick up No Man's this weekend.

the day 1 patch notes are very reassuring, too.

It seems to be the type of game that you play to sit down and relax with after a long day.

Do you know they're resetting everything before it goes live? Anything you do before it's released later today (in about 8 hours) will be wiped.

From some of the first impressions I've heard for the game, it kinda is the kind of repetitive experience that a lot of the skeptics expected. I personally can enjoy that kind of stuff tho if there's a compelling sense of progression to it. I'm not really sure if I wanna buy this game at full price tho. I usually don't buy Triple A games at launch these days, because you can usually get them at a heavy discount in a few months.

Ah, actually yes. Sorry - different release dates for different regions. You've already got it while I've still got nothing but an expensive countdown timer :p

Are any of the streams that people are linking to from people that have the day-one patch and all the missing bits in place?

All current live streams should have the patch. It's only if you watch older archived footage where you will find people playing the pre-patch version.

There's nothing wrong with being cautious. In fact, unless you literally don't care about losing the money I'd recommend waiting, just to see what the general consensus is before deciding whether to get it or not (regardless of how long you wait).

I wish I hadn't bought Battlefront. I pre-ordered it from the PSN so it was downloaded and ready to play the second it was released, and it's been my biggest disappointment of the PS4 so far. (Don't get me wrong, it's a great game but it's not a Battlefront game).

As for the triple-A thing, meh. I'll decide if it's worthy of that title after I play it. Screw Sony and their last minute, "Hey, you want some help with that?"

I'm sure any tedium will be washed away for me, the second I name planet Yermum.

Whether that's bug or that's really how the game is - Hello Games made it crystal clear that NMS is meant to be a single player experience, "go play Destiny, if you want a MP experience" was something Sean Murray said several times. I don't care either way, but I'm laughing right now at all the smug redditors on other threads who were saying stuff like "I don't care what Sean Murray says, we'll find a way to play the game the way we want to, whether. he. likes. it. or. not. we'll do it!" and now they're crying bloody murder, because they can't break the game in order to play it in a way it was never intended to be played.

EDIT: So, apparently the guy finally found someone in the game. You can see other people, just not everyone who's playing the game and not all the time - it's random, I guess? It's still a great inconvenience to the people who come in thinking they could play this like a traditional MP game If they coordinate with each other, so my comment still stands.

Also, To the people who are already playing this: Can this game be paused? if it can, that right there tells you a lot about the nature of the "multiplayer".

There's enough multiplayer games already. I'm really glad to see that this will, for the most part, be an entirely solo experience. I just want to be left to explore space alone without some dick harassing my ship or whatever.

It's for that very reason that in 6 months of playing Elite Dangerous, I never once played it anything other than solo.

My friend said that when you go into settings menu the game pauses!
