There are no missions or scenarios it's a pure exploration title is what I got from the latest interview. He mentions trading posts so I assume you're going to be able to collect resources and sell them. He also mentions about ship upgrades aswell and there will be no leveling system either. As for coop he said it would be possible to meet up with friends but you probably wouldn't do that because there could be thousands of lightyears in between you and your friend.

Yeah I'd like to correct that as I read the press section on there website.

From what it says on there I don't think it will have multiplayer.

Features

A TRULY OPEN UNIVERSE If you can see it, you can go there. You can fly seamlessly from the surface of a planet to another, and every star in the sky is a sun that you can visit.

EXPLORATION IS SEEING THINGS THAT NO-ONE ELSE HAS EVER SEEN BEFORE Every creature, geological formation, plant and spaceship is unique.

SURVIVE ON A DANGEROUS FRONTIER You are alone and vulnerable, and will face threat everywhere, from deep space to thick forests, barren deserts to dark oceans.

BUILD FOR AN EPIC JOURNEY Collect precious materials and trade them for better spacecraft and upgrades for your suit and equipment.

PARALLEL UNIVERSES Choose to share your discoveries with other players, or not. You will never see another player, but you could make your mark on their worlds as well as your own.

I'm really liking the idea behind all of this. It looked super nice at E3. I just wish there was a release date or a window at least. The fact that we didn't get one makes me think 2015. Such a bummer.

Also, didn't they say it's a console debut? Sounds like it's coming to the pc at some point. I wouldn't count the bone out either.

This game, this game, this game ... I can't express how excited I am for this game. I'll probably spend thousands of hours travelling.

Also this interview is very interesting http://www.gamespot.com/videos/e3-2014-no-man-s-sky-stage-demo/2300-6419415/

He says another player can be literally lightyears away, wow that's insane :) He also said that this world is limitless, like you could fly 5 years straight if you want. Wow I simply can't wait to get my hands on this game. I don't remember when I've been that excited for a game. Let's all remember this game is made by 8 people I think and still is better than most AAA titles where thousands of people are involved.

In the interview I linked above he also says that every player will have his own unique story, well like experience that noone other will have. Even if two friends try to have the same experience it won't be possible because everyone literally starts on a different planet and it can be the case that people are on planets that you'll never get to visit, even not after spending a few hundreds of hours in No Man's Sky. Damn, I can't even imagine what that means :)

He also says that you can play it for a million hours and have only explored very very very little of the game, crazy or what!

No Man's Sky is something truly amazing.

^^I thought I heard the dev say 10 ppl are working on it, but I keep hearing 4, and now 8. Not that it really matters much tho

Fuuck im seriously looking forward to playing this game for hours on end..especially while high.

I mean even if it doesnt live up to the hype & fill its abitious claims; just the idea of an open world, procedurally generated sci-fi game sounds cool in itself. As for mp, the dev mentioned that there will be populated areas (i.e. trade routes, stations, points of interest, etc) to find other players... I'm hoping theres some sort of teleporting function too? who knows

heres(reddit) some links w/ most of the interviews & junk

.just gonna quote reddit posts bkuz lazy:

• Planets vary in size and are scaled closely to reality; source: Sony Live interview with Mr. Murray.

Original Post below:

All things that are clear, unclear, future predictions, speculations and generalities until we get the game into our galactic paws.

Sources have all come from the creator's interview footage from E3 2014 (reference for posterity).

• Multiplayer is more like Journey or Dark Souls: at the moment, it looks like you won't be able to buddy up with others. maybe leaving notes for others will be a feature. we've already seen discoveries from other users in videos.

• They've created 'genus' types for flora and fauna, but the engine will basically evolve them within their genus parameters. ("... somewhere in the universe there could be a giant penis monster...")

• It is a galaxy insofar of an infinite universe. Planets, stars and the like are readily placed in the galaxy, but when you get there everything is generated. Until someone arrives and names/discovers things they are labelled as 'Uknown' on the galactic map. Oh yeah, there's a galactic map.

• When you die, you lose your ship and suit. Which is what seems to be your commensurate accumulation of upgrades/level of preparedness for the great deep black of space.

• There is a "malevolent force" in the galaxy.

• Some players will chose to get to the centre of the galaxy as a goal, although it's unclear if there is a set story at all.

• You can have a base in which you spend your time. Whether this is a space craft or you just hang out on a planet is unclear.

• Warp drives are upgrades for ships which allow you to jump from solar system to solar system. (ie. faster travel)

• You can wipe out entire species of animal. This effects other players, as that will not be generated again. Maybe it could evolve elsewhere.

• 'Infinite' keeps coming up form the creator. He uses the example of a Minecraft user who just continues to walk forever.

this goes a tad bit more into detail as to what there is to do--

  • there are points of interest spread out on planets (Sean mumbled something about Voronoi maps but didn't get into how they are used - probably just to distribute these points?)

  • locations of points of interest are indicated to the player upon their arrival at planets, who can then explore those points to find out what they are

  • players don't have an inventory but do have a "bank account" or value score

  • players can upgrade a bunch of stuff: weapons, scanning capabilities, mining capabilities, the suit (survive longer underwater, in a radioactive environment, in a toxic environment), the ship (upgrade hyperdrive, weapons)

  • it was mentioned that upgrading the hyperdrive of the ship might mean passing on giving it better weapons, leading Sean to suggest that that build might be better for a "botanist"

  • Sean claims his preferred playstyle is to pick fights with stations

  • there was also mention of their automated AI-gif-creator testing, which they've talked about before, but here there's discussion about how it's sometimes used by zooming out so each planet is only a couple pixels to check whether there are two many planets with the same color palette

It seems like the animals/species in this world aren't infinite. He said players can wipe out entire species of animals.

@Moderator Could someone please get rid of (Destiny's Child) in the topic title. No Man's Sky is shaping up to be superb and purely amazing, one of a kind experience, maybe the best game ever! I don't want to have it linked with a commercial stupid title as Destiny. Thanks! This is not about Destiny, this is all about No Man's Sky.

OysterBarron

Is it ps4 exclusive?

From what I've read it will come to ps4 first and then xbox one. Apparently Microsoft disowned them with one of there old games Joe danger. Ever since then they say f*ck ms to prove a point and release the other versions first.

From what he said in the recent interview with Gamespot (during E3) No Man's Sky will come first to the PS4 but he also wants to see the game on PC. He didn't mention any other platform like XBO though. So PS4 and PC will it be. I'll get this for PC.

I really am starting to think this Shaun guy is a younger version of Peter monoluex. He seems to get so emotional about this game especially when he is promoting it. Be very wary alot of what he says in the interview to be fact is completely contradicted on there website so one of them has to be wrong.

^ Yeah at the website it says that you'll never meet another person but oh well in some of the interviews, especially this one he said you could ... even if it's very unlikely it sounds. So maybe they did say on the website you couldn't because it's so rare and to surprise people if it actually happens.

^ Yeah Sony definitely won, however while so far I have been a console player only I'm starting to slowly switch to PC completely.

On topic: Wait so basically this game is only expanding once new players play it??? http://www.polygon.com/2014/1/14/5309458/how-no-mans-sky-devs-want-to-use-multiplayer This gets me worried a bit, so theoretically if I'm the only person to play this game there'll only be 1 planet????? or how can I understand that?

Bear in mind it states this in the interview so take with a pinch of salt. The way he says it's going to work is you will be able to see the galaxy and stars that surround it on a map. When players discover a new planet/trading post they can then choose to either keep the information to themselves or upload it to the community, this will then update all players maps with the planet name and specific data about certain locations. Obviously if you don't have an active internet connection then i'm not sure how it's going to work unless you actually discover the planets yourself.

^ but the universe would basically be still the same if you play it on your own (I know that's not possible but only theoretically)? I mean this game isn't driven by the amount of players, that's what I wanted to know because if one day barely any plays this there would no new planets be generated??? Did I get all of that wrong, I'm confused.

Geralt of Rivia

Mhmmm, Sony won this generation not even a year into it. Flawless thinking.

Ah, good 'ol probable redx, trying to start more console wars ;)

OT: I really, really hope this comes out on PC at least soon after the PS4 version, if not at the same time. I'm not owning current-gen for a while, and this is one of my most anticipated games.

If this is coming about 3 months prior to the PC version or even earlier maybe I'd even get a PS4 JUST for this game because I can't wait for this game and this game I'll probably (if it really turns out being that amazing how it sounds so far) play a life time, but maybe I'll just wait for the PC version, and it's like 100% for certain that there'll be a PC version, so no worries who has doubts about it.

Also this is interesting, he seems to be as excited for this game as I am and most of us :)

@Master Who is this Redx? I'm just saying Sony won this console generation. You can't deny the truth when you look at the facts. PS4 continues to outsell Xbone to this day.

You are.

He didn't even bother changing the way he writes. It was so obvious

I bet he didn't even change his IP address, either.

1) I'd wait for more info and gameplay before you go saying stuff like that. It sounds amazing now, trust me, I know, but it can change for the worse easily.

2) I hope you're right. What's making me nervous is the fact that they haven't confirmed PC yet. I hope Sony's paying them to keep quiet about it. I really do.
