Reading the last few pages has made me incredibly angry. Moreso than any other post I can remember on these forums.

To our South African members, do you think the country faces a crisis in the years to come without Mandela's presence as a figurehead? My Aunt is South African (Actually she used to work as an agent for the ANC, translating Newspapers from Afrikaans to English and then distributing them while she was at University in England so that the vicious stories of apartheid would be heard by the international community) and she believes that over the next few years interracial violence in SA will shoot up now Mandela can't exert his calming influence on the nation. She is white and has family over there so she is pretty worried. What do you guys think?

Back on the actual topic, I can't be the only person to notice the disparity between the teachings and intent of Mandela and the path taken by many of the regional leaders. Just look at Zimbabwe whose independence and transition to majority rule owes so much to Mandela. It's depressing to see how his message has been abused by the likes of Mugabe to commit borderline genocide.

@Max - I can't see interracial violence happening now that Mandela is gone man. I don't know where that fear came from, because I've heard about it quite a few times in the last couple of years.

 

Despite the high crime rate, corruption, poverty, e-tolls (haha) etc, South Africans have become stronger and more united for a great number of years now. Still a very long way to go to solve all the problems caused by events in the past, but I believe this country will only get stronger and better in years to come... We do need great leadership though, and that's something that's been lacking ever since the end of Mandela's term as president. I didn't actually mind Mbeki as president. He wasn't that bad, but he certainly wasn't that good either. Our politicians have become way to weak, greedy and corrupt and the government at the moment is a joke as far as I'm concerned.

 

All in all, SA is a great country and I wouldn't wanna live anywhere else. SA ROCKS!

I can easily continue disporoving most your claims with simple searches on Wikipedia, but I am sure you can find ways of distancing all these from the Jewish people/culture/religion.

Great scientists, artists, etc... are not a reflection of the entire social groups in which they belong, rather their own talents, opportunities and circumstances as individuals. Culture does affect them, and is a major determinant of peoples either building cities or living agrarian lives in huts. However, culture in itself is an adaptation to people's circumstances, natural environments and interactions with other peoples.

So if you really look into it, all these things are ultimately determined by natural phenomena outside of people's controls - there is not such thing as superior or inferior cultures or peoples - the great Roman Empire, it's people and culture weren't superior to that of Native Americans who were living in Neolithic and pre-Neolithic societies at the time (and until much later).

Apologies for this off-topic rant, but really annoys me how nationalists on the internet and in real life try listing famous people from their ethncitiy, country, religion, or any other social group as proof that they are superior.

It is also annoying when people use a certain person's greatness as justification that anything coming from their mouth - even things they are no experts in - are automatically true. Like JockTheRipper refering to the political stance of Henry Ford. While he was indeed a great industrial innovator and entrepreneur, his politcal views are not automatically correct, and he probably knew much less about politics than many average people.

 

On-Topic: Sivispacem, I completely agree on how many people exploit the names of popular ideologies and famous people to make their unsavoury personal agendas more palatable. I personally think this is in fact far more common than most people think. I can only see this continuing as long as people continue to judge things based on arbitrary and superficial connections (as I try explaining in my rant to JockTheRipper above).

The stats that you completely fail to provide? Also, correlation does not equal causality.
