Racing Analysis: Supercars - Is the Entity XF all that?

Recommended Posts

1st Place: Overflod Entity XF (94 points)

2nd Place: Truffade Adder (92 points)

3rd Place: Everything else

Well folks - people occasionally ask if the Entity is the hands-down king of the track that it's made out to be?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: A good driver in any super car will beat bad drivers in an Entity or any other car. For example, the Entity's advantage is only an average of 0.5 seconds per lap on Criminal Records or Down the Drain - races where there is often 3-5 second difference in driver skill and car modifications.

And the Adder has some advantage on the high speed tracks being the clear favorite on The Commute, so may also benefit from catchup modes as its has more opportunity to exert its top speed advantage.

Sidenote: As many people suspected the better Sports cars are a very competitive match of those mid-range super cars like Vacca, Infernus and Voltic. It's a shame they can't race together!!! I've also excluded the Surano and Elegy RH8 (due to unreliable data) even though they are among the fastest sports cars and may be an even better match.

Recommendations:

Chrome Freaks: Adder

Greenies: Voltic

Sadists: Bullet

Everyone Else: Entity

Full Results:

How to interpret:

  • Ratings are a speed rating relative to the fastest vehicle on each track (ie typically the Akuma motorcycle)
  • For example, 90.0 means the vehicle travels at only 90% of the average speed of the best vehicle.
  • Blank entries are where the vehicle was not common enough to provide reliable data for a given track.
  • Overall rating is an average across all of the tracks used.

Methodology:

  • Sample 1% of all players for each race on the PS3 system
  • For each player, record the vehicle they used for their fastest lap and the corresponding lap times
  • Overall sample size is roughly 350,000 random players compared to most reviews by 1 onlyplayer !
  • Why 1%? Because it is a sufficient sample size to get convergence of the vehicle rankings for any particular race
  • Why 20 races? Because it covers the popular races over a good variety of track types and is sufficient to get convergence on overall rankings
  • Modified vs non-modified vehicles? This data includes a combination of both so is reliable for the popular modified cars but may under-rate vehicles that are not frequently modified. Ranking order is still valid.
  • Driver skill? Likewise there may be a slight bias to better drivers picking better cars, so the lower rated car may be under-rated. Ranking order is still valid.

I swap out my sports car all the time, just to see how they are. After yesterday's thread I traded in my Coquette for a Surano, just to test it out for a week or so.

The Entity is (IMO) so far ahead of the other supers that I've never bothered with any others. Although I do have an Adder for the 'drag' races.

weird how the vacca is higher up on the list than the infernus. I tried it for a couple dies and replaced it because it was just too slow and handled weirdly compared to my infernus. I think after you drive the infernus and entity it's hard to go back to cars that can't accelerate to full speed in a split second.

I tried the Infernus after the Cheetah and the handling was so wooden I couldn't drive it - the acceleration was great but I still find the Cheetah the most enjoyable super car to drive. The Entity feels a bit lifeless while the Cheetah is fun. :)

Think its only because it gets to 'stretch its legs' on speed tracks like Criminal Records, Commute, Taking off and Arms Race. In reality, it is probably a worse car.

I own a cheetah and rarely drive it. the thing sticks to the ground like glue and looks great but otherwise it's a painfully boring ride. the tiny tire spinout when you start accelerating bugs me to no end too. I wouldn't sell mine because it's in my top 3 favorite cats to look at but I rarely drive it these days.

infernus takes a moderate amount of skill to handle around corners but otherwise it's the perfect freeroam car.

IMO the Cheetah is the best super car for racing.

Really ... why is that?

It would seem to be unusual choice given it like the Entity but RWD with slightly slower acceleration, slightly slower top speed, slightly worse braking, slightly worse traction ... in fact, on paper it's 2-3% worse than the Entity in pretty much every metric you can pick.

So clearly the Entity is a car for noobs who can't drive.

yup thats exactly why after 280 wins : 310 losses im still driving my entity.... becasue i cant drive

no... its a damn good car and if you can actually drive your gonna smoke the competition in their chrome buggattis while using an entity... the car doesnt make you better at driving, if your sh*t in an adder your gonna be sh*t in an entity too... but if your a good driver the entity is still the clear choice of supercar...

The Cheetah just hugs the road like nothing in the game. It can easily keep up with Adders and Entitys, but as soon as a lot of turns and traffic comes into play the Cheetah just out performs both of them.

I owned an Entity and a Cheetah. I ended up just loving the fully lowered fully modded cheetah. The Adder and Entity can have their 1-5 second lead on straight aways, il make it back on the turns.

I love how you can do a lap of Criminal Records in an Entity without evern braking or letting up off the gas.

Yeah maybe, I haven't done a race since I boosted wins for car unlocks. Racing is seriously dull.

I'd enjoyed driving the Cheetah around for a while but it wasn't until a race last night I really decided it was the one for me - Route 68 vs six Adders and an Entity, won the race but the whole way was a real tussle, at least three times I was rammed near sideways (in the rain) but the Cheetah kept it together. Convinced me it was a keeper - especially as this is a no-braking track where the Adder's should have had a big advantage. The Entity came 7th! (Probably more the driver to be fair).

The main reason I swapped from the Entity is that it was one of the ugliest cars in the game while I think the Cheetah looks great - not from the front mind you, where the Entity is nice, but from the rear where you see your car from 99% of the time! :)

Entity is the jack of all trades, good at everything and best at nothing. But with the right amount of modifications and a bit of concentration on the driver's part, it essentially trumps the other cars because it's the ultimate avergae joe.

It is setup for extremely low body roll so that makes sense ... Pretty much the only thing in the game that stays flatter is the Coquette

I don't get why everybody excepts the Bullet to be a "super-fast" car. It's more of a muscle car than a sports car, sure. It doesn't make it a "bad car" though.

i don't know about driving around in circles, but on the streets the cheetah and infernus sound and perform like beasts. the entity and adder are pretty dull in comparison.

i think because it is categorized as a "super car," people have certain expectations of it. but i agree, the bullet is amazing. built like a tank, and in my opinion the best looking of any of the super or sports cars.

Fully modded Infernus is the best car to drive in 1st person view...:D

If you haven't, do it.

In my time trials on most Super compatible races I scored lower times on the Adder than the Entity so I guess the Adder is the one for me. Silly tho that the Voltic beats them both in races with significant turns.

People need to realize that it's about the car that fits you, not the popular car or the expensive car. Respectfully, Fluff what others think. In Super I have a car fits my style: Adder, Where I am great where it's weak, taking tight turns and preventing spin outs. A car that is great where I am great: Voltic, this thing takes turns like an RC car and you can literally do a 180 spin or 360 spin to fix your spin outs, not that you can spin that thing out. And a car for looks: Vacca, because nothing else looks better.

So don't follow the crowd and find what is good for you. Here it's about your opinion. Stats and scores don't mean fluff if you aren't comfortable with it.

For Races and Free Roam i exclusively use my Infernus, if i really need it.

But what about slipstreaming? You're not just racing the clock and I've found being at the front means you have slipstreamers constantly nibbling at your heals unless you get a significant distance away. Usually winning a race against good players can be as much about hanging back until the right moment then taking them on the last quarter of a lap or so. (I've not done tons of races in GTA yet but this seems to be how I'm finding it now I've got fully statted cars - lvl 38 and win/loss record is around 55/75 or so.

this would actually be really cool IMO, a lot of the cars never really get used because they're the slowest in their class

but they could compete with the fastest cars of another class

plus there's mods.

so here's my idea, they should do it like they did in midnight club where every vehicle has a class (A trough E or something) and by upgrading them you can get cars into higher classes

this way you could have a sedan race with the low end sports cars or have a low end sport cars race with the low end supers

would need to really chance the modification system though

as ashleyman will confirm.,.... race smart... lol

but on a serious note your right, races are won and lost in corners, smart overtakes, slipstream slingshots and the like... its not about the car stats, it s about track knowledge, being aware of your surrounding, capitalizing on others mistakes while limiting your own... ive beat many a custom car in some stock piece of sh*t, mainly because they cant drive...

the slipstream element is slightly too powerful, but not as bad as catch up (which is more a slow down if your in first, rather than catchup if your in last... sucks major bawsaq), of which both need to be used sensibly (i.e if catch up is on, dont take 1st palce until the very end of the race, as catch up will bork your speed.. let some other fool take the hit, sit in second, slipstream for RP then overtake after the last checkpoint)

Most of the time when I'm racing, I would usually see players either driving in the Entity or the Addler. Sometimes the Addler drivers would win on races with long straightaways, such as Arms Race.
