Can anyone confirm my suspicion on vehicle speed?

I have two motorbikes, an Akuma and a BATI 801.

 

The Akuma was modded gradually, upgrade by upgrade as I was able to get them.

 

The BATI I purchased yesterday and upgraded it by the only maximum I could get (in engine, turbo, etc.) not the intermediates.

 

The stats bar (5 bar race version) of the BATI looks better than the Akuma. Acceleration of both are maxed out. Top speed of the BATI is higher than the Akuma.

 

Yet when I time laps the Akuma wins. By a massive amount - 3 seconds on average over the same lap (airport runway track).

 

Is this because I didn't make incremental upgrades on the BATI and just went for the highest? Even if this is the case, why does the stats bar not tally with my race results?

It's pretty simple. The akuma has faster acceleration. Acceleration > top speed.

For example lets say the akuma can reach 150mph but the bati 160mph. The odds of reaching that speed in most races are low, whereas the akuma will get way closer to its top speed of 150 in any straights than the bati can get close to its 160.

yup yup, wel; said that man... also the akuma's faster accelration means your upto speed alot quicker after corners... the akuma will waste a bati if well driven ... everytime... n thats exactly why, catch them up before the corner, follow them round then blast dat fool as you pull away... esp if you throw in a wheelie, theyre gonna be watching your ass for the rest of the race

Oh yes. My embarrassing mistake. I assumed putting a Turbo on the BATI would mean it had as good acceleration as the Akuma. Looking at the stats I can see it doesn't.
