How do you pick up weapons in deathmatches?

A few of my buds decided to get gta 5, so they are all very low ranks at the moment and have very weak weapons, and when we play team deathmatches online together they can't pick up weapons. How do they pick up weapons in deathmatch mode to make the game more fun? Does anyone know?

 

I remember when I was a low level I rarely was able to pick up a weapon or get ammo for it when I walked over it in deathmatch mode so I don't know how to help them. I remember trying to walk over weapons even if I had already unlocked them and owned them, and they wouldn't give me ammo either.

 

What's the point of having weapons all over the map if you can't pick them up? So there has to be a way to get them.

 

Can anyone tell me how to pick them up? Are you supposed to equip your fists as a weapon and then walk over them or something? Are you only allowed to pick up weapons if you have unlocked them rank-wise?

As far as I know, you just run over the weapon and you can use it. That's mostly it.

My only experience with inability to pick up weapons happened during a Survival. I tried to pick up the Grenade launcher and could not, I attributed it to the fact that I have my own and it was fully loaded at the time, so I shot a few off and then tried to pick up the grenade launcher on the ground and at the very least I thought Id get some ammo but nothing happened at all.

So I said, screw it, ill use my sticky bombs.

I don't think it has anything to do with Rank because I easily picked up the Mini-gun.

Some of the weapons dropped by enemies get rather glitchy...i have even kicked a few around. All you can do is walk over them, if it dont take then just shrug and move on.
