Prison Tower Fun

Maybe you already know about this, maybe you don't. I had a lot of fun with it yesterday so I'm putting it out there in case anyone wants to try it out and use it as a sniper vantage point in free roam.

 

There are several tall lookout towers surrounding the prison. Although they have door entrances, it appears that you need to break into the prison to get there. By the time you're in, the police are after you and come to shoot you down before you can enjoy yourself.

 

 

It's pretty easy to get inside these. You can steal a helicopter or plane from the very nearby airfield, or you can call Merryweather for a $1000 Helicopter pickup and kill the driver to take over the vehicle.

 

Get up pretty high and a little distance away from the prison, jump out and dive closer to the tower, deploy your parachute and carefully glide towards the top of the tower underneath the roof where the railings are. If you do it right, you will hit the railing and fall forwards into the tower. There's a small office room inside that you can duck down in for protection.

 

 

Also, there is a winding staircase going down the tower and into the prison. If you stay inside the tower, the police will not pay attention to you and you can happily snipe passers by as they frantically try to find you on their screen. I managed to kill a guy five or six times repeatedly before he gave up trying to reach me and drove off in a hurry.

Will try this. Shame it's a bit far off from the city where most people stay but the Sandy Shores Airfield is close by. Should attract some attention to myself.

Actually, I had just come out of a Criminal Records race (joined randomly, not intentionally). I saw three people nearby on the map so I decided to get up in that tower and wait for them to get close. One of them had a buzzard and was trying to blow me up with rockets, the other threw sticky bombs, a third flew off in a stunt plane.

 

It's a well guarded tower. People seem to lack the range to get stickies or grenades all the way up into the room. It's probably a lot more fun if you're in a friends only session and you're exploring. You can get a group of friends to stand in each tower individually with snipers and play a game where you have to hide and snipe each other until there's one person left.

You can exit via the stairs through the door at the bottom which leads out into the prison, yes, but at that point you get a wanted level.

Nice, but ill stick to sniping people who go into the downtown LSC from the IAA/CIA building offices, much safer imo. Good find none the less. If only more suckers spawned there by the prison...

I actually ran through the prison on foot and managed to hide out in one of these towers without dying. Somehow a guy in a tank managed to kill me even though I was down in the tower.

Update on this.

I circled the prison and saw that 2-3 of the towers looked towards the top of the map, thus useless.
2-3 other towers next to a hill that people can go up to and easily shoot you so don't go to that one.
There's one that overlooks the LS Customs where I've had a few victims so it's by far the best tower to camp at.
Look on map, see someone approaching, take off blimp, they come over and look, wondering where I am.
Seeing no threat, they go to the LS Custom. Sometimes they're quick and can't snipe them, sometimes missing them and shooting their car which startles them. I was lucky enough to have 3 guys there. One guy was waiting to get in the 2-door garage and got sniped! It truly was amazing.

It's a lonely spot but makes for some tactical thinking. Have yet to encounter a Buzzard so I'm not sure if a well-aimed rocket can blow you up. You can go down the stairs (no wanted) and even go out the door with no wanted. Take 3-4 steps, though, a wanted shows up. Cops DO come up the stairs with shotguns so you won't last long. There's also no real cover except the low walls in the tower but the spiral staircase is great against everything (as said, want to try tank & Buzzard missles/rockets).

By "CR" he is referring to the race, Criminal Records, which was patched so that the huge RP bonuses for doing a lap were nerfed.

Parachuted down to one of the towers just to explore it. All of the sudden i see another player bellow me in a car. He starts honking his horn so I leave cover and do the rock emote. He got off his car, took his mg out and gunned me down. He was a low level and I griefed the f*ck out of him. He finally quits and sends me a message WHY? I answered him that i was the guy that he killed in tower. He answers ohh hahahaha and then sends me a friend request.

Today I gave it a try. I stole cars until I got a bounty on my head and went inside one of the towers. About 5 different players came to me at different times and they all realized very quick where I was, and most of the time I didn't even shoot. Two of them tried to kill me with Buzzard missiles, so I had to leave the top and to go downstairs. The other players camped me with sniper rifles, I couldn't react, they knew exactly where I was and I had to stay down to not get a bullet in my head. I just managed to kill one of them two times. The cover is not good enough. It wasn't as much fun as I expected and it's too unsafe in the towers and too boring out there in the desert.

I have to agree with this, I got killed by a buzzard too within 5 minutes. That was after I died 2 times trying to parachute on the damn thing.

So for now I stick to Trevor's meth lab when I got a bounty on me. It's much safer against buzzards and easier to get in. Just use a car to climb on the AC unit after you shot the window.
