Training Strength?

People have said that everything was recalculated and that's why we were all reset.

Is there any reason to train strength now? What exactly does it do?

I have heard that if you stomp down a car with someone in it, it increases your strength. Although I don't know if that's still the case.

I'm guessing people lost strength because they patched the ability to increase it from hitting cars, so any increase you gained from that was removed. I was at 100 and went down to 80. I got it back up in about an hour fist fighting my cousin.

The strength stat will increase the damage you do in unarmed combat, and more important, increase your resistance to damage. Does this mean you can suck up more bullets? I don't know but it never hurts to be safe.

That's been patched by Rockstar.

I'm not necessarily asking how to train strength, but what are the reasons to train it. What does training strength actually effect?

Stand on the back of a flatbed truck, shoot into the air to spook the driver and repeatedly kick the bed.

Doesn't work on pickups, HGVs or anything else, you just fall over when they starting driving, has to be a flatbed.

Edit: Just read the above, think it just means your punches cause more damage and you take less damage from punches in fist fights. Not sure if it affects falls/getting hit by cars etc.

Well, if it increase your resistance to damage, it's definitely worth it. As far as melee damage? Meh.. I rarely go fisticuffs when I have a full arsenal at my disposal.

Strength: Your physical power and resilience. Boosts melee damage, speeds up ladder climbing, improves sporting agility, and reduces damage taken from various sources. Increase by scoring hits in melee combat and practicing sports. For every 20 punches you land, the strength skill will raise by 1%. Killing cows on the grapeseed farms gives you almost the same amount of percent for every 20 punches. Playing sports such as Golf or Tennis will assist in enhancing this skill.

From here.

Don't know what "various sources" means, I presume it won't make a difference to bullet damage but who knows.

Edit: Someone here reckons it increases your throwing distance for explosives which is pretty cool if true.

I found that by playing solo rounds of 9 hole golf (takes about 9 minutes per if you don't suck horribly) visibly increases your strength bar each time. I think I got a full bar with every 5 games or so (and about 2000-2400 RP per game). Not bad grinding if you like golf.

Also - enter a mission from Gerald or someone, drive to the pier and beat the crap out of everyone (the police won't come in a mission). Takes time still, 2000 punches from empty I presume and after a couple most people are dead...
