That's impressive I forgot Holland made it to te finals last Cup with Spain. I'm not saying they're bad as a team. No one can say that. I just have neutral affection/affinity with them as a whole. I just don't warm to them much when they're on the field. Although with Argentina it's mostly dislike all round. Van Gaal did make great risks which was exciting so maybe I'll start to like them more. Tim Krul was entertaing when he was psyching out the penalty takers.

Well I hope a mediocre team doesn't win. I want a deserving team to win. That could be Brazil or anyone, including Holland. Seeing a mediocre team win because of biased ref, bad linesmen or a disallowed goal won't be a satisfying end to proceedings.

I agree 100%. Except for Brazil being deserving. They have to win the sem-finals and the final incredibly convincingly for me to consider them deserving of the title. It's still possible though.

And the international media called Krul a "villain" because he was psyching out the Costa Rican players. They said it's wasn't sportsman-like. You know what's not sportsman-like? Focusing your entire game on getting to penalties, and delaying the game at every possible chance so that you can maybe just barely pull of a win in the most pathetic way possible. Everyone is praising the Costa Rican team for getting further than ever, but I hate these pricks now.

in other words...DAS DEUTSCHE REICH MUSS SIEGEN :D

Deutsche Reich? WTF? sry.. It's Deutschland - Germany.

I still can't believe that you think that it's still called like that..

And not funny at all :/

When you try to take over the world, people are gonna be talking about if for a while to come. That's probably why Hitler killed himself, he must have thought "I'm never gonna hear the end of this".

In Holland, we still put "rijk" in front of a lot of stuff. For instance our central government is called the "Rijksoverheid", literally "imperial government". The word "rijk" has taken on the meaning of the nation though and not the empire that we used to control, so people don't have that connotation with the word anymore.

Ha! His German is about as good as his English. I like that he's going to England, because him speaking another language makes any inertview he gives much more entertaining.

By the way, why does everyone always say "Bayren"? That's not what it says!

edit: Sorry about the double post.

I posted that van Gaal clip because people were talking about referencing the third reich. I thought van Gaal speeching like that was relevant to the subject matter.

For some reason I'm rooting for Argentina to win; though I don't think that will necessarily happen. Maybe it's just my love for Messi.

It's also disappointing that Neymar won't play. I just don't see today's Brazil as good as it was with Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. They're still a good team, no doubt., but Neymar is definitely one of the few skilled man in today''s Brazil.

Germany; well it's f*cking Germany. They always make it far. But I can't see them winning.

Netherlands totally surprised me. They worked really hard up to this point, so they deserve the win in my opinion, but I wouldn't really want them to win.

At least four big teams made it to the semi's. I applaud the more 'smaller' and known to be weaker teams making it this far (Chile really surprised me against their match with Brazil, they played really well, not to be expected of them honestly).

Spain's shocking loss rocked my world. They played like total sh*t for no real reason. I'd say not enough preparations before the matches, they probably thought they will win because they had such a good milestone of winning tournaments.

Glad that Portugal dropped though; hate Cristiano Ronaldo. He's a legend when the ball is at his feet, but he's a bitch.

Germany - Holland would be so f*cking epic. Really want this to happen.

We've suffered enough already. Losing to Germany in 74, Argentina in 78 and Spain in 2010 is enough.

However, if we would play against Germany and we would win it, we would have undamaged all those defeats.....

It has to happen. I would much rather win against Germany than against Brazil minus Neymar. Actually, I would also rather lose against Germany than Brazil minus Neymar.

So for tonight, I wish the German team and their lovely country the best of luck. If we win against Argentina, from then on I will wish the German team a terribly delayed flight back to their sh*thole.

Gehen Deutschland!

You want us to leave?

Haha, there goes my failed attempt at German.

_______________

Do you feel more as Argentinian than as Brazilian? Do you have a general hostility against Brazil as a nation? I'm just trying to understand your point of view. I don't live in Brazil and I've never been there, so I don't know what it's like there and how the people's mood was before the WC started, but I it makes me wonder that you as a Brazilian (or half Brazilian) who lives in Brazil are so vehemently against a success of your own country at a WC in your own country. I cant grasp it. Of course I appreciate that you support my team, but even if my country had the worst and most dickish players in the world (I'm not saying Brazil has), even if everyone including the media in my country permanently talked as if we would get us the 4th star without a doubt, even if the WC was in my country and there were massive riots against the WC politics happening, I would still support my team and country at this tournament.

Yes, I do feel more as Argentinian than as Brazilian. I'm from the southernmost state of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. We've been long known for being separatists from the rest of the country. Our culture, as whole, is very similar to the one present in Argentina and Uruguay. Personally, I also think that we're much more friendly to the typical Argentinian than the rest of the brazilians, since they are almost always received with hatred by 90% of the population.

By the way, it's not that I have any kind of hostility against Brazil as a nation, however, the current government has been so sh*tty for like 12 years that I don't want to support my national team.

They have been giving benefits to the majority of the population and leaving minorities like mine aside. What I'm trying to say is: as a 100% white, C-class young adult who has only attended to cheap private schools during his life time, I have minimal chances to join a good course, such as Medicine, in a public university, compared to a black or mixed person who compose more than 70% of the entire Brazilian population. All due to the infamous racial quotas that have been recently implemented by the government.

Equal rights my ass!

I want Argentina to win the World Cup because it would cause a huge disappoiment in the population, something that has yet to be seen, to the point that they would think twice before voting for the Brazilian elections for president in the end of this year. Perhaps things will change if this bitch doesn't get re-elected, otherwise, sooner or later I will have to move to Argentina, a place where I'm more likely to be a sucessful doctor.

Then you might ask me: "why haven't you done it already?". The answer is: I don't have enough money to do so. Unfortunately, my family only makes $2500 a month, and that's not enough to either put me in a private university or move to another country.

As for the game tonight, I am really hyped. It will probably be more intense than the final if we reach it. Brazil will play straight forward with hard pressing, I guess. There will be goals within the first 90 minutes and the game will be decided in the first 90 minutes.

I guess it is not possible on this forum to have a thread with Germany as a subject even if it is only the national football team, without referencing Hitler and the Third Reich.

PS this is a real football speech. Uli Hoeneß angry about the rants against the building of the Allianz Arena.

@ Danz.:

Well if you feel much more Argentinian and can't really identify with Brazil and their team, I can get a grasp. But the harsh way you often talk about Brazil when it comes to football, that sounds like a hostility towards the nation and its people to me and seems to be a bit over the top, since you're residing in Brazil and even are half of Brazilian descent. But that's just my opinion and I'm not familiar with the whole situation. I will leave it to that.

I think it meant "BRD"

Anyway, what do you think?

Primarily that you're a teenager with a nationalistic attitude.

The DDR aka. East Germany (1949-1990) tells the "BDR" aka. West Germany/present Germany to f*ck off? No idea what you're trying to say by posting that picture.

I think you could only revenge those defeats by beating these countries in WC finals. You didn't beat Spain in a final, it was just a little group stage match. Spain still could have made it into the last 16 after they lost against you. If I was you, I wouldn't feel satisfied enough. You have the chance to end Argentina's journey in a semi final, that's ALMOST a revenge for the defeat of '78, since it's no final. You might get the chance to beat Germany in the final, now that's a revenge for the defeat of '74. At least in my opinion.

With every atom in my body I will pray to whatever created the universe that this will not happen.

However, I've recently visited Santa Cruz do Sul and Nova Petrópolis, both of which are heavily influenced by the German culture as well. They truly are beautiful cities, unlike mine.

Lol he wasn't a villain at all. Im guessing all those outlets calling him so are those that did not want Holland to win. It was a great tactic as when the player is walking up to the spot he's in charge psychologically and the goalie has to wait and respond to him. Krul leaving and walking around flips it on its head. HE'S now in charge of when the penalty is taken and the player must wait for him. Its not unsportsman like its just unconventional. There no rule (I assume) preventing a goalie from walking around the box before the player places the ball down.

Confirmed. Argentina will not win the WC :p

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but the quarterfinals were pretty drab and boring. The cup had been so good up to that point; it deserves a better finish. Here's to hoping that the semi's can give us some good football, although it will more than likely be very defensive displays from all four teams.

In the pre-match coverage it's always said that Germany moved from (2010) Exciting, beautiful football to (2014) "Ergebnisfußball" result orientated football. It was true for the last four games, but this game it will be different.

The German line up, I posted above, is now confirmed via Facebook

Don't be a hatter, it doesn't looks good on anyone imho ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love Messi and he's a "natural", the closest one can get to Maradona (my all time favourite), but not quite as good imho.

Ronaldo is more of a "self made robot" and definitely the most professional player atm. Just the time he dedicates to training (staying in the pitch practicing after all his teammates are already taking shower, same when he was on ManU) and the sacrifice he has done playing injured for RM and Portugal the last 2-3 months...

This is also how I see it. The government is so eager on wining the WC, 'cause they can extrapolate the result to the next presidential elections. Something like "We gave you the 6 star at home, we ended the 1950's curse, vote for us and you'll see what we'll do for the Olympics) ;) I'm against Brazil form the start and I've got 2 Brazilian cousins that I love...

Though I'm from Europe, I've got an uncle living in Blumenau-SC for long.

I've been at Blumenau's Oktoberfest back in the 90's, it was really great. The city was "closed for party", and from what I've heard (from (friends) and seen (in docs) about the original at Munchen, it's quite similar. Sadly I've never been at the original one, wish is much closer to my location, but I do wish to go there at least once, when possible.

You definitely have an German/European town feeling there. Almost everybody is blond with green/blue eyes, most of the architecture is kinda similar (I've been in Germany several times) and you don't actually feel like you're in Brazil...

The weather like in Rio Grande is also like in Europe, just in reverse, it's Winter there atm.

f*ck, right now I am afraid that we can get kicked out, that only happens when you want something so badly but can't decide the outcome. I just hope our players can keep cool and that we have this bit of luck that is needed to go through.

Enjoy the game guys!

If Southland is as wrong as people say then I hope he's 'right' here as I really don't want Argentina to win. The whole country glorify a middle aged cheater for a stupid goal which should have been a penalty and an instant red-card.

Why did they bench Götze? He is one of their best... They should bench Özil or Klose in stead. Use Klose as a pinch hitter in stead of in the starting line up..
