Der Süden
I'm very glad Neymar and their captain Silva are missing in the match against us, gives me hope. Beating Brazil in their own country at a WC in a semi final will still be very hard though and the statistics speak against us. We've only won 4 out of 21 games and they won 12. The media here are talking about a dream semi final, it's a nightmare semi final to me. I wish Columbia had eliminated them from the cup.
Canoxa
Hopefully Neymar recovers well. Nobody deserves a fractured vertebra. While I do understand the Brazilians' pain, be real. Brazil took full advantage of the referee's leniency, and played rougher than I frankly remember Brazil ever playing. Fernandinho was literally destroying play by knocking Colombians over and so was Maicon. Frankly, I found Brazil's game more attractive last year, with Oscar in the center. I strongly dislike any system that's obviously suited for one player and one player only, and Brazil were playing with a double pivot — Brazil, with two defensive midfielders! — plus a huge gap for Neymar to fill. Hopefully now Oscar can act as the playmaker, with Ramires beside him.
Max
Yeah, this Brazil team is unlike any Brazil team I can remember, very negative and workmanlike. In the Big Sam/Tony Pulis mould.
Fireman
HAHAHA. That referee got compliments from FIFA for whistling a good match and that he has a good chance for the final. QUELLE SURPRISE?!?!?!
Doc Rikowski
But think of how big a blow to morale it is. In this stage of the competition, where legs and brains are tired, morale means more than skills. If a team thinks together, they win together. It could be or not. They could use the whole thing in a positive way. Yesterday's Brazil, which I had supposed to be nervous before the QF, was instead very focused and played aggressively (and violently). I'm also sure someone told them they could do so due to the ref being quite soft... I really hope we get a good ref for next semifinal because if there's a match in which Germany could be damaged by the ref, that's the next one. Brazil abandoned the "jogo bonito" (the beautiful style of play) almost 2 decades ago, when they won the WC in 1994. That's cause in 1982, 1986 and 1990 they realised that they had the better team but still lost. From 1994 they started to play to win and took better care of the defensive part. Nowadays Brazil is virtually a European team with some individual south american talent. That's why Neymar kinda stands out in the team. There was a time when only a couple of players in the team were not like Neymar. The south american way of playing football is simply disappearing. Look at the 4 semifinalists and you won't find any "real" south american team. Edited July 5, 2014 by Doc Rikowski
johnny_zoo
Its not Brazils fault if the Ref can't referee properly and they took advantage. Its FIFA's job to get a ref that can do the job and they obviously failed. Lets also not pretend that Columbia didn't throw a few of their own risky tackles knowing the ref was being partial or too scared to pull out cards at such a late stage in the tournament. I don't think the ref is being bribed by FIFA as some are suggesting but there's no stopping him from injecting his own partiality subtly in a game if he wants. Kampioen
Can't believe I missed the Germany vs France match. Was it any good? I heard Germany was up 1-0 by half time and it ended 1-0 too. Doesn't sound very exciting but it doesn't mean much of course.
Danz.
Brazil won the WC in 1962 without Pelé who got injured very soon in the competition... Too soon to rule them out just cause Neymar isn't there. He played nothing today. Open match in the semifinal. Anyway it sucks that we lost a WC protagonist in this phase of the tournament. Yeah, but back then Brazil had Garrincha, who was considered here to be on the same level as Pelé. He was the protagonist of that cup instead. Nowadays though... Edited July 5, 2014 by Danz. Doesn't sound very exciting but it doesn't mean much of course. I think it was a solid match. Mats Hummels scored with a header after a corner kick in the 13th minute. France became stronger over time, but there were goal chances on both sides. Manuel Neuer made a great safe against Benzema from a few meters shortly before the end. So we are going to play against Brazil and Neymar + Silva, who are two of the most important players for the Brazilian team, can't participate. Lahm played very well as a right defender against France. Now we only need to replace Özil with Schürrle and Germany will win this. This world cup is our big chance, maybe the biggest for the next decades. Yes we can. Kampioen
Are injuries like Neymar's common in American football? I've never watched a match but I've often heard Americans saying that "soccer" is much softer than American football? Is this true? Because we see some very serious injuries, if American football is more dangerous then players in that sport must not last very long.

Well there were lots of dangerous tackles in one game, but I think there's an injury in most matches. Not one as serious as Neymar's, but those aren't exactly uncommon either. Nlwt
I'm guessing people have completely forgot how Fernandinho was on Rodriguez all game yesterday. He made some horrific challenges that went unnoticed and didn't even get a booking for them when the ref had seen them. People are up and arms about the Neymar one because he picked up an injury from it. It happens all the time without the player getting injured. Stephan90
In this tournament the player type like Neymar or Özil gets destroyed by the extreme physical hardness, that is tolerated by the refs. I hope this doesn't carry over into the national leagues.

Anything from a broken leg to a torn acl. Although rare there have also been broken backs resulting in paralysis. It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges though. The players in American football are constantly running into each other either to block or make a tackle so the chance for injury is higher. I think the "softness" comes from the soccer players lying on the ground like they have been shot when they have barely been touched.

I think the "softness" comes from the soccer players lying on the ground like they have been shot when they have barely been touched. Yeah that's probably why. But I think soccer is already a pretty dangerous sport, Neymar was probably just inches from being paralysed yesterday. If American football is even more dangerous, I would expect injuries to be very common, since there's already one in most matches in soccer. Not to mention ice hockey where players actually fight each other if I understand correctly. That's just weird. Aren't people suspended or something for fighting in ice hockey? I've seen some videos where players just have full on fist fights on the ice with nobody interfering. What's up with that?

Matty256
I don't watch alot of football only the big tournaments. This World cup so far has been awesome. I had Spain or Germany on winning it. Guess I was wrong about Spain but Germany are starting to show weakness to me I don't think they will get past Brazil tomorrow and Netherlands are doing really well, I can see them going to the finials too. I hope the other teams surprise us too and pull a cheeky win
bread
I do hope that Belgium will win. Argentina is all Messi. Belgium has a lot of talented individuals that can go far. They're the most dangerous outsiders left in the WC. And if a team is gonna win, it should be a classy one. That's Belgium. Edit- oh, right when I post it's 1-nil.. f*ck me I'm turning into Southland Edited July 5, 2014 by Mockage

Kampioen
I hope Belgium advances too. I want Holland to play against them. Unless we lose. We can't have that happening. It would destroy our entire national identity and throw us into a state of anarchy until we turn into Somalia. cactus.
Belgium could probably do without Hazard right now. He's been fairly innocuous today as well as in their previous games. Bring on Mertens instead. Belgium are looking to have got a goal in them, though. Hope it goes down to penalties!
