As the ball is kicked by James, two of Colombia's players are offside, moving the opposite way. But the first player to touch the ball is actually David Luiz. He concedes possession when the Colombians are all legal.

Ball was going so fast that it was impossible to spot David Luiz's touch from that distance. Especially since so many bodies were squashed together. Cut the linesman some slack.

Not sure how much money he won, but it has to be quite a sum!

Great goal by David Luiz.

I normally would; I was this close to actually starting my referee's course a few years back. I'm very sympathetic to their work. Still, it's impossible not to track the movement of the ball: it went the very opposite way, after bouncing off David Luiz's thigh.

I'd say it was offside. The defenders, when trying to clear the ball, were put under pressure by the offside Colombian player(s). So even though they hadn't touched the ball at that point they were still interfering with play and so were offside.

Honestly those Colombian players should never have been in an offside position to begin with. Seems to be a problem for them they were caught offside a number of times in free play.

When did Korea lose eventually? Semi-finals right? Looking forward to that.

In free kicks, two Colombians usually ran from an offside position to a legal one before the ball was kicked so that the defenders would take a more diagonal airbound trajectory, instead of jumping upwards, so as to gain an advantage in the air. As for free play, David Luiz and Thiago Silva played great traps.

Lucky Brazil, once again. But this time I believe that it was a deserved win. :)

I'm already nervous for tomorrow. :$

Neymar is out of the WC. f*cking Zuniga. This is way worse compared to Suarez's bite. This guy should be arrested and banned from football.

I cucked Alex Jones

I don't think a hard tackle compares to a bite at all.

Brazil are in deep sh*t now. No Silva and no Neymar. Looks like they're going to have to rely on Fred for goals. lol

Aah you found the facedesk emoticon too. Splendid!

I thought it was just Neymar being Neymar but the injury is more serious than I thought.

@Fisciletti: Worse than the Suarez bite? Are you serious?

It definitely should have been a foul and was a poor challenge by Zuniga, but definitely not done with as much malice or intent to injure as biting another person. If there is anyone to blame, it's the referee. Forty fouls were called before the first yellow. The official had no control of the match. Unfortunate things like this are more apt to happen when the official does not exact at least some level of authority over the match.

Zuniga meant to lay one on him, but that's just what defenders do to star forwards every week at all levels of the game from Sunday League to a World Cup quarter finals.

But he's apologised and I'm sure he never meant to break his back though. It is a massive shame that Neymar is now out of the World Cup, poor guy, I wish him a speedy recovery.

It's a freak injury, those sort of collisions and challenges happen all the time and I've never heard of them fracturing a vertebrae before.

Fernandinho was doing the exact same all game to Rodriguez. That isn't going to be mentioned because he wasn't injured at the end of it. It's just one of those things.

What would you rather have, a fractured vertebrae or a bite mark?

I've had both. Definitely the bite mark, but by Suarez? Ehhhh, it's a toughy. But do you really think he meant to go in and break it? It's a freak accident imo.

Ok, did he intend to injury him? No.

Did he intend to hurt him? 100% Yes.

When Suarez decides to be a baby and bite people he isn't trying to injury them but to hurt them, Which is exactly what Zuniga meant to do, as if you watch it back he knew he was never going to get that ball so why not try to hurt him a bit and send a message.

That's a very scary injury. Neymar is a fantastic player and it's obvious that he would be targeted for a lot of fouls, but not on this scale. Brazil are...shall we say................f*ckED!

But watching this game shows that David Luiz can be a very good player due to his physical strength and the fact that he can run with the ball, and Hulk played pretty good today, had chances to score. If these guys step it up by a few notches, I'd say they still have a chance. But let's be realistic here, if they face Argentina or Belgium if Belgium win, or if they face Netherlands or Germany, they are going to get their butts kicked.

Brazil won the WC in 1962 without Pelé who got injured very soon in the competition...

Too soon to rule them out just cause Neymar isn't there.

He played nothing today.

Open match in the semifinal.

Anyway it sucks that we lost a WC protagonist in this phase of the tournament.

But think of how big a blow to morale it is. In this stage of the competition, where legs and brains are tired, morale means more than skills. If a team thinks together, they win together.

From what I remember the ref was miles away and hardly see the foul. He was further up the field slightly and zunigas body was blocking the knee so the ref had a hard time seeing just by virtue of his position. I don't think a broken vertebrae was the intent of the tackle but his knee flying into his back is not an accident. He's even looking at neymar in the photo not the ball.

I think he should be punished for this. You can't let players get away with play that harms others whether it was due to negligence or purposeful intent. It sends a message to the rest that think they just need good acting to avoid being penalised.

I thought neymar was wasting time again until the moment he went down the tunnel. No one goes down there to waste time its the side of the pitch then they jump out and run back.
