Josh
I like the fact that Hogdson picked a young squad for the World Cup. England have no chance of progressing past the group stage so he should use this WC to give the young players some experience and prepare for the future. What a bizarre thing to say. It'll come down to 2 games against Uruguay and Italy to decide who goas through, and if you don't think that an England team could compete against both of those sides and possibly scrape a win, then you're wrong. Whether or not England actually will compete is of course up for debate, but to simply rule them out a month before the WC even starts is a bit silly. Max
Tevez seems pretty ambivalent about Argentina which is weird. You'd think any country which could bring as their strikers Tevez, Messi, Lavezzi, Higuain and Aguero to a competition would do so. For whatever reason Tevez must have made it clear that he wasn't committed. Shoumaker
The Dutch squad looks very average. They will have a tough time getting out of their group. Yep, Brazil should finish top in their group and Spain will finish top on theirs I feel. Brazil should play The Netherlands in the round of 16 and progress to the quarters so we'll get revenge for '10. To anyone who didn't know, yes I support Brazil. GTA_stu
Well if Brazil win it, and you start saying "OMG we won it!" Then people are just gonna laugh. Shoumaker
Well obviously things are different here then. GTA_stu
Ok that's just plain weird. Cultural differences I guess, I dunno. You don't do that with cricket though right? You all support Bangladesh? (You're from there? I remember you used to have the flag). It just seems weird to celebrate another country's victory as though it were your own. Shoumaker
With Cricket we all support Bangladesh obviously, we love our Cricket team, you should have seen some of the Bangladeshi supporters during the WC during the games, true passion there. We all love football too but we can't even support our own team in the major tournaments and what not since we're simply not good enough. So we support foreign teams to feel part of the WC fever and what not. Since it's the biggest event in the world I guess a nation that loves football would like to be part of the fun one way or another. Shoumaker
It's hard for me to support a country that's not mine. You don't need to tell me, I wouldn't ever support anyone else in Cricket where we have some presence even though we're nowhere near the best. You're from Spain, you guys at least have a foundation in football. Good luck trying not to support a country that's not yours when you basically don't have an International football team to begin with. Especially for an event like the WC. Bangladesh are ranked 162, yeah we never even play International football games to begin with or any that have some sort of significance. cactus.
I totally understand getting behind another team, especially if your homeland virtually has no presence in the sport. After all, it's why I support the Bangladeshi cricket team But seriously, it's the part where you identify yourself as being of them (i.e. "we") that comes off strange and won't garner you much respect in the eyes of footy fans around the world. Barcelona is very close to a small country called Andorra i bet you have heard about. Andorra plays the Eurocup and they don't even get a point in the group stage. Shoumaker
@SouthLand We don't even have a presence in world football, there's nothing to support them for besides a few friendlies every year. Yes, I support Bangladesh during those friendlies but they're not even a proper football team. There's so much corruption in our national team it's not even funny. The best players in our country never get the chance to play because of political influence etc. Don't get me started. Andorra are ranked lower than us because they're in a much harder continent but we aren't even a proper football nation so don't bother giving me real life examples of your friends who are in Europe because things are a lot different here. @TheCacti Yeah, it's just something cultural. Things that seem odd in some parts of the world aren't in others. But yeah I see what you mean. Maybe I shouldn't have used "we" in a forum where most members are from Europe etc because I know saying that word in this case seems weird to many. I just forget sometimes. cactus.
So which team do you think is going to crash and burn in the group stage and completely shock everyone? You know, there's always that one team. Who could be the victim this year? I'm leaning towards Spain. I don't even have any good reasons to think that, but it's set up so well for them, coming off their multiple championships (Euro/World/Euro), it couldn't possibly be them, right?! For example, who in their right mind would have predicted France to exit 2002 without even scoring a goal? Perhaps complacency will get the better of them. Besides them, I could see Germany or Portugal making an early exit just because their group can stir up trouble (more so Ghana than USA, but of course I'm hoping that it's us.) Shoumaker
I can't see Spain losing a top 2 spot to either Chile or Australia, I feel they'll be first in the group. I feel Italy will be the ones to fall in Group D, Uruguay seem do well one way or another.. And I really like England's squad this year. I would love to see Germany knocked out in the group stages because of all the sh*t I'll have to hear from people here if they win it but I can't see it happening. It wont be so easy for Portugal though I predict. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/658135-fifa-world-cup-2014/page/4/#findComment-1065389199 Share on other sites
