Tchuck
Saw only the highlights, so can't really say much about it. Not surprised at the ref, Brazil has always been slightly favoured in the World Cup when it comes to ref decisions. It wasn't a pen though, but Fred is a good artist, so he knows how to pull off things like that. Croatia's second goal should stand as well. I'd say that this match should have ended at a draw at least. Still, not impressed by the quality, or lackthereof, of Brazil's play. If they plan on winning the thing, they have to improve a lot. Ramires was really good on the disarming, helping keep it all kind of together. Watching Japan's debut this Sunday with some friends, and tonight's Mexico vs Cameroon should also be entertaining! cactus.
lol half you guys are convinced it's been bought and fixed already, which is ridiculous. there were some bad calls that favored Brazil, but not even some favorable calls will save them from a very strong team. Croatia's disallowed goal was extremely unfortunate, but you'll get the same call 9 times/10 when someone clatters with the keeper in the air like that. Wasn't that surprising. Croatia look easily strong enough to finish 2nd in the group, especially with Mandzukic coming back, and continue their way. You're gonna see more bad calls, anyways, get used to it Hodgey., Banks., Ari Gold and 1 other
GTA_stu
I think people just don't wanna see another South Korea 2002 situation. That was just ridiculous. First the Italy round of 16 game was full of appalling refereeing decisions in SK's favour, which garnered something like half a million complaint emails to FIFA in a time when the internet was nowhere near as big as it is today. Then the South Korea v Spain game somehow managed to blow even that one out of the water in terms of the decisions going in SK's favour. It was even more biased and unfair than the Chelsea v Barca 2009 Champions League semi final 2nd leg, and that's saying something. Both of those WC games but the Spain game especially were just utter robbery. A lot of people think FIFA influenced the refs, who in those games were from small footballing countries, to favour the Asian team because it was the first world cup in Asia. I honestly wouldn't be surprised. FIFA is rotten and it's lead by rotten people, it's definitely not beyond them to try rig a world cup in one way or another. It would be a disaster for FIFA and Brazil if Brazil get eliminated early, they definitely wouldn't want that. I don't think the Croatia game was rigged, but I can see why people might have their suspicions. Edited June 13, 2014 by stu

It would be a disaster for FIFA and Brazil if Brazil get eliminated early, they definitely wouldn't want that. I don't think the Croatia game was rigged, but I can see why people might have their suspicions. It would also make sense to influence the refs due to marketing. If SK had been knocked out early then the people would have got less hyped about the world cup and football in general, and Asia as a whole, which is a f*cking huge potential market, which is why South Africa did not get the same treatment, also because then it would have been obvious to even the most f*ckwitted person on Earth, south korea are at least a decent side. Regardless I think the ref just buckled to crowd pressure, this is why home advantage exists, it isn't because "you know the ground better" it's f*cking grass, yes knowing the ground and dimentions beter might give you a slight edge but tens of thousands of fans at your back is more influential. Time will tell if that is the case if/when we get a stronger ref out there for a Brazil game. But yeah there will be a bit of "oh we can't do without Brazil" mentality in FIFA for the early stages due to their global following with people like Shoumic cheering them on from Bangladesh, will they act on that? if they need to i think yes, because FIFA are that corrupt, but they shouldn't need to to be honest. I don't think brazil will win it, I think they might, they have a good chance but my prediction is with Argentina, in a final against Brazil, we will see how the groups pan out to see if that's possible, it certainly isn't a classic Brazil side, but there are youngsters in there who could be great and we could see the making of a classic brazil side, the prologue of one, based on that game I see defensive frailties, also a poor keeper, by world cup winning standards, but in midfield they're good, they came up against Croatia who are very good at digging in and playing above their station, underestimate them at your own peril, Brazil underestimated them, but they managed to break them down in the end and it was not a one man show, signs are good for what is a pretty young team, mostly, they do need a keeper who is not past it. Southland why would the bribe be in Euros? Switzerland (Step Ladder's nationality) Uses the Swiss Franc and the ref was Japanese which would be Yen. Also Brazil use the Reai, no Euro connection this must be the bribe for the 2010 World Cup, yes, it all makes sense (kidding I actually wanted Spain to win at the time due to being IN Catalonia at the time and wanting to see the catalans suddenly celebrate.) that leads me onto what a Dutch guy said soonafter "All the time I have been here these people are all like "f*ck the spanish" and now it is "viva espana"." Jimmy_Leppard
I know there is an ''unwritten'' rule that the host of the WC doesn't lose the opening game, ever. That's obviously how it is today too. I also realise that the ref can have a certain lookaway decisions in favor of the host sometimes, that's also understandable and well expected, but... A non-existent penalty, a disallowed goal, two out of three goals by the hosts irregularly given, at least one red card (Neymar) and a dozen of ungiven yellow cards to the Brazilian players is way too much degree of help in favor of the host. I know that if Brazil had lost or even if they ended up with a draw, the people would maybe riot, but you know what? They need to take their ass-whooping like people and go home because it's more of a disgrace to win like they did than lose respectfully. If the ref doesn't give a yellow card in one or two occasions to the host's players in a game, that's fine, that's the kind of ''helping'' that can be tolerated. Everything else, not really. I'm also stunned that for the opening game, FIFA decided to let anyone else besides Howard Webb be the ref of the game. For the opening game, someone with way more credentials than Yuichi Mishimura (or whatever) needed to be the ref of yesterday's game. I feel sorry for Croatia, but I'm also glad that happened because more than two billion people all around the world saw the clear cut disgrace of the Brazilian nation, Brazilian football team and lastly, the Japanese ref. Brazilian team is way too strong for needing the help of the ref to win the game and it's a shame they had to do so to win a game. I would advise the Brazilian delegacy to watch the yesterday's game once again and take a good look of how exactly they won. All those finger pointing in the sky and thanking to God for their goals and wins should've been pointed to the ref and thank him because God would never have anything to do with yesterday's game. I have always been for the sake of the football as a game and yesterday is a spit in the face to all the football loving people who just want to watch a respectful, even match. Waddy
The problem for other teams in the WC is that Brazil can just pull a goal from nothing. Defence is weak but the striking options are fatal. But those are quite different situations where Korea had a string of decisions going their way that saw them through several games (that Ecuadorian ref had a lot of dirt on him too, pretty much proving that he's a piece of sh*t. He could have very well been influenced outside the likes of FIFA). And then here we have one isolated game that involves the hosts and everyone's grabbing their pitchforks already. And I don't understand how it would be a disaster for FIFA if Brazil were to be eliminated early. Their show goes on. lol half you guys are convinced it's been bought and fixed already, which is ridiculous. are you surprised, though? Am I surprised at people's gross overreactions? Well scrubbing out 2 goals for Mexico and holding them to a draw clearly favours Brazil so.. that is a sretch. Affects Croatia and cameroon more. boosting their qualification chances. Just bad officiating, you see it in club football all the time. The FIFA WC has a similar issue with refs than the Champions League, incluson, trying to include so many nations in the officiating you get amateurs while passing up professionals. We might say the British refs are sh*t, but all of the premiership refs are better than a lot of the officials in the world cup, and that is a fact, not opinion. I think it is time linesmen were replaced by sensors for the offside rule so it works like goal line technology, or at the very least video refs like in every other developed sport, keep them there to see fouls where the ref might not. This is the world cup, should have the very very best officials. edit: 1-0 Mexico. Offside? no? sure? ok 1-0 If Cameroon play like this against Brazil it is gonna be a finals record Edited June 13, 2014 by Flynny
