FIFA World Cup 2014

Heh, at least we are in the club where we have host a World Cup and we have won a World Cup.

I would love to see the Dutch host a World Cup, But i don't know if FIFA would allow it since Holland is a Small country. I bet you could have a chance if you decided to do a "Belgium and Holland World Cup". Don't get me wrong, the rivalry i have with the dutch is on the field NOT outside of it.

We did try that, but we got 'beaten' by either Russia/Qatar. :')

If we were to host it yeah we'd have to co-up with Belgium.

Yea, there was a reason that Götze pulled out Reus' jersey.

Özil did not made the best games but he contributed a lot. Thats why he played every game.

Ozil is a good player but pretty much the whole squad overshadowed him by miles. So he is overrated. He even missed one of the easiest chances you can get in their game against Brazil which could have got them to an 8-0 way before Brazil scored.

But in a team like Germany, he is average. Put him with any other country, and he would be one of the best players on the team.

I would rather blame Löw instead of Özil himself, because Löw always kept him in the starting line up instead of Schürrle, who played better overall. The trainer made some mistakes but now he will be invincible atleast until the European Cup in France is over.

He's really turned your national team around. They've played amazing football in the recent tournaments.

Even if he fails in 2016 he'd still have a lot of credit to me, I assume he'd have in Germany as well?

I can't say exactly how many people in Germany like him and how many dislike him. Overall, I think he was rather a popular trainer before the world cup already. But there was also much criticism before and during the world cup even in the mainstream media.

It was mainly for four reasons:

1. That he always lets Özil play (instead of Schürrle for example) even if he lacks performance.

2. That he let Lahm play as defensive midfielder instead of right back. Löw justified this by saying that Khedira and Schweinsteiger were not 100% fit in the beginning of the tournament therefore they must share one spot.

3. That he let Mustafi play as right back instead of Lahm.

4. That he let Höwedes play as left back instead of other players like Durm or Großkreutz.

PS. a Netherlands + Belgium world cup would really be great. I think it is kind of unjust that a football nation like the Netherlands never hosted a world cup, while Qatar gets one.

Sepp Blatter said that he wants to spread football all over the world and conquer all big markets and that India and China could be next due to his strategy.

Sepp Blatter wants to get his bank account filled with as many bribes as he can.

And what countries better to use for that than Qatar/Russia :')

Until there's a better board that really cares about football with a chairman like Cruyff, Beckenbauer, someone like that, we won't get a world cup.

And as far as the criticism goes, those are some weird decisions but I guess in the end it worked out for him.

Ozil hasn't been himself for a long time. And he misses way too many chances, where as other German mid-fielders score easy.

Totally agree, yet he is the most popular German player worldwide with almost 11 million likes on facebook ahead of Marco Reus.

I loved watching him and the Brazilian president getting booed at the final as soon as they came on the stage. Such humiliation.

Mine would be Toni Kroos/Muller

Yeah, when he handed the cup he made sure it went very quickly cause he didn't want to get booed again :') Pathetic man.

There are two of my favourites also. Great on the pitch and Thomas Müller is very easy going, is constantly making jokes and is one of the most popular players if not THE most popular player here in Germany.

I stand by my point that Ozil is the most overrated player in the world.

Didn't you make this guy one of the highest paid players in the world?

Yeah the player that actually turns up for the big games and has managed to score 158 league goals for the club.

Turns up for big games? Yeah when he can be bothered and not handing in a transfer request.

Also too many German videos in here of late. Let's change it up and throw in a English video.

Well we aint greedy. We like to share the love. :^:

People who dislike Löw because of his decisions or think he doesnt know what he is doing are simply stupid.

He reached the semi finals or even finals in all his tournaments. As assistent for löw starting after Euro 2004 or as coach since 2006.

He made all the right decisions and always justified them. Bringing on Özil instead of Schürrle was his decision and it was the right one. Özil had some problems but had some heavy impact on some situations nontheless.

Finally winning the World Cup should justify his decisions 100%.

Yeah, Scolari did the same, won on 2002, Final (lost) in 2004 and semis now.

Awesome, just ask any Brazilian ;)

Edit @bellow - yep, for sure really stupid! You were the one just praising "Low" for his previous almost accomplishments lol.

On this WC, Germany played well on just 2 games but also some lousy ones against Ghana, Algeria, hell even with the USA. The best of the worst imo. If it was just for 1 match sake, Arg should have won the Final, they did indeed played better that one game show.

Sure Scolari is really great. He will forever be the Penta guy, but also the one who relegated Palmeiras, was sacked from Chelsea, you know... That "Churrasco" guy that everyone loves but no one wants to be linked with when inevitably things go bad...

Edited by EramVerdes

Stupid comparison, really...

Germany played well in all of its tournaments since then.

One coach couldnt justify his decisions the other could for almost a decade.

There is a huge difference between losing 1:0 to Spain in the final and losing 7:1 in the semi finals..

And the bad performance of Brazil was a problem of players rather than of the coach.

Well since you mention it, we have won two. We also won the Rugby World Cup, and won it in style. We are, actually, the only nation to date who has been able to win both.

I can see the obvious retort coming a mile off so I will save you the bother. "No one cares about Rugby" I can hear you about to say. Well, it's not as popular as Football, I would agree, nevertheless, it is very popular in a lot of countries. Quite pertinently, France, Argentina and Italy, all FIFA World Cup winners are capable of fielding Rugby teams that persistently qualify for the finals. The Spanish and the Dutch are the next ones knocking on the door. The Germans, on the other hand, are nowhere. Still, the kind of rolling on the floor favoured by your "heroes", such as Muller and Klinsman wouldn't go down too well in Rugby.

I think there's a degree to which spreading your national interest across many sports rather than having one that is the key focus is going to dilute your chances to a degree. Children with the right attributes at sport could probably specialise in any number. Exhibit A to this argument is that we have two family members across both World Cup Winners. George Cohen played fullback in 66, and his nephew, Ben Cohen, was on the wing in '03. Cricket is also another big draw. Ian Botham, arguably one of our best ever Cricketers, had professional Football trials.

So the "two" you mentioned, it made me smile. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us win the FIFA World Cup again and admittedly it's not in sight for the foreseeable future. However, I wouldn't swap the Rugby World Cup win so we could have two FIFA World Cups, but not be able to say we had ever been champions at Rugby.

I see the English are still bitter about the fact that they suck at football these days. The WC in Brazil really is the gift that keeps on giving. Rugby... my oh my

Now that the dust has settled on a truly fantastic World Cup I think the sensible thing to do is to close this topic and return to normal service in the Sports section. I hope that those who only ventured here for the World Cup stick around and get involved in the other topics on this board and I want to thank you all for (mostly) behaving over the last month. :p

Congratulations Germany, and thank you Brazil. The best World Cup I've ever experienced and one which will be hard to beat in the future. Here's the BBC closing montage to cap off a memorable tournament:

Until next time, gentlemen. :^:
