Captain Arthur
Bullsh*t, they were the better team and even when they have no f*cks left to give they still win. Also, statically speaking they didn't lose, it was a draw. Penalties don't count as a loss. If they were 'the better team' then why didn't they defeat Argentina and get it over with? Argentina had more chances at scoring and whenever Robben tried to score, Mascerano contained him.
bread
Despite the referees bias to the Dutch, Brazil still would have lost anyways.

johnny_zoo
Refs really should get penalised after the match for ill judged decisions by a board of officials that 'referee' them. Abysmal referee-ing to the World Cup this year is what goalline technology was to it 4 years ago. FIFA need to do something about it.
bread
Despite the referees bias to the Dutch Bullsh*t, the referee was crap and made mistakes benefiting both teams.Either way, Brazil would have resumed its capitulation because the Dutch are a far more superior team. Brazil had plenty of chances to WIN the game but failed with either bad coordination or simply clearing the net. Doesn't matter what the ref did, Brazil got played. Badly, on home soil. More chances but didn't score, they didn't even try and played for the penalties in the second half of the extra time whilst the Dutch were still hunting for goals. Which is why Van Gaal didn't save the substitution for Krul, they weren't playing for penalties. And it's like gtaxpert said, the better team doesn't always win. – overeducated wonk who fetishises compromise
Doc Rikowski
The thing is that many Italians immigrated to Argentina, and what does the FIFA do? Choose an Italian referee. And in case Germany wins, it would have 4 stars and push Italy of its throne (since Germany won more vice champion titles). On the paper it looks like a bad situation for the German team. I'm not calling conspiracy or that Rizzoli is going to favor the Argentinian team, but I can't say I'm happy with the referee decision, it doesn't make me feel comfortable. Well, in 1990 we were all cheering for Germany in the final due to Maradona's words before the semifinal. The whole stadium was booing him in Rome. Although I don't know for whom Rizzoli stood back then.

The difference in quality between Germany and Argentina is bigger than between the Netherlands and Argentina, which was slight. But you are right. Argentina has a chance. I don't think it is a very big chance though. But we'll see tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it.
Murray Bunyan
I actually feel sorry for the Brazilian fans. At least it's not as bad as it was in 2010 with South Africa. Also did anyone notice how unprofessional the referee was acting? At the end of the game, the ball hit him and he gave a freekick to Brazil. Even though the player was lying on the field before the referee even saw the ball coming at him, I'm sure he noticed him on the ground, too. He even spread his arm and pointed at the player to justify his decision.

Hodgey.
Why are people saying the Dutch should be in the final? They dont deserve to be in the final because they lost. Because they are better than Argentina. The better team doesn't always win. But it doesn't matter much. Germany is best anyway. Bullsh*t, they were the better team and even when they have no f*cks left to give they still win. Also, statically speaking they didn't lose, it was a draw. Penalties don't count as a loss. I never said they aren't a better team on paper but you two seem to forget that means f*ck all. They dont deserve to be there because they didn't win, if we go off who should win because they have the best squad then what's the point of even playing football or any sport for that matter in the first place. Eutyphro
True. Off course the one who wins the match deserves the final. You are right strictly speaking. But people mean they would've liked to see the slightly better team in the final. I don't even think the Netherlands is better than Argentina. Were we to have a fit Strootman and a van Persie in shape, and Argentina a fit Di Maria and Aguero, and were both teams to try playing less defensive, I would have to see who would be best. Probably Argentina... But the Argentina we played against was pretty uninspiring. If I want to be fair I would have to say that we weren't much more inspiring either, and it was a mediocre match from the Netherlands. The worst one they played in the tournament. Before the tournament I actually tipped Argentina as winner, because I think they have the most talented South American squad. It is a shame though that Di Maria and Aguero are not fit/injured, and it takes away the attractiveness of their team. Doc Rikowski
Well, I still think that the NEDvsARG was a great tactical semifinal. The defences were so good that they neutralised both attacks. But that's me. In other news, apparently Brazil left the pitch and didn't wait for Holland to receive their 3rd place medals. That is a total Jimbatron

Dutchy3010
Third place! Now I'm even more proud on our team. Bad referee. Quite enjoyed the match, though. RESPECT for the Brazil fans that stayed in the stadium for awarding the medals. They clapped and cheered for Holland even though their team lost. I was really astonished. Eram
Sorry for the wall of text... No matter what happens tomorrow, imho, this was the worst WC that I've ever watched. My 1st was back on 82, like it was for Doc Rikowski if I'm not mistaken (I'm also at Lisbon, maybe one of these days we can meet for a imperial somewhere, even with Canoxa though he's a fcp supporter ), so I've been around and I've seen lots of outstanding teams the last 9 WCups! I've also seen some of the 78 WC matches and still remember that WC Final, as my parents were sheering for Ned and were pretty sad at the end, but I was just 5 back then so I'm not accounting that one Consistent and/or "Top Football" played on 2014 WC by any team - to no avail (no, not even from Germany)! Bad refs (...), awful weather conditions, corrupt ticketing sales (not meaning K Raavi ) and lousy coaching decisions/player's selection mainly from Argentina, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, even from the US and yes The Netherlands* *If only they played to win the semi from the beginning (yeah, I know, waiting game, just like chess, tactics (my ass) lol, this is not the Dutch style that I'm found of - btw I've "lived" at Rotterdam about 18 months on a 4y time, so I like the Clockwork Orange), no doubt in my mind they would have won it easy, even if conceding some goal(s), not even mentioning "Krul's Gate" that certainly built up Cillessen's confidence on the semis pen shootout . Van Gaal just sucks!!! Imho 3 or 4 nice games overall (tops!), the best one being Algeria vs Japan (how weird is that ?!) and that's it!... Sure, we were all amazed with Ned's 5-1 (2nd game 3-2, just barely, with the Australia, the worst ranked team...), Germany's 4-0 (2nd game 2-2, also just barely, not even mentioning Algeria on the last 16...) and France's 5-2 (probably the easiest group they could wish and still managed to draw 0-0 with Equador, though France is a team to watch in Russia imho). Meanwhile Argentina managed to win 3-2 against Bosnia, undeservely won 1-0 against Iran (!?!?!?) and 3-2 with Nigeria (Nig players highly suspected of being bribed on both Arg & Bos games...). I could go on with Brazil walkthrough, but enough on that, 1-7 and 0-3 should do it... When the group stage was over, it was just a big F*ing mess. All teams trying not to loose on regular time ("let's see who gets tired/humidity factor 1st) exception for the 1-7, but that was already explained on the previous pages of this thread 1st ever WC semi to end 0-0!!! I've no doubt that Germany was/is the best team at the tournament (though not so hard, considering all the others contender's performance) and they surely deserve to win the Final-Fact! But it should be over already (enough is enough, unless another 7-1 pops up at the final and history is made again, just for fb, twiter, etc sakes!) Today's game should have been replaced by 3x45mins between Netherlands, Brazil and Argentina, with some likely final pen shootout, as they all seemed to be so comfortable with this... Congrats to USA, Costa Rica, Algeria & Iran. Outstanding stuff from the underdogs! I really hope you'll do even better in Russia As for England well (I stand by my previous statement, they should play as UK to have a chance!), never mind, peace Edited July 13, 2014 by EramVerdes

ddyoung
Van Gaal was so classy to give Michel Vorm a cameo appearance in the dying minutes. I think that makes Holland (so far) the only team to have used every player on their 23 man roster. Now let's see if he can work his magic at United... xNCx
