Insurance claims ... rules about who pays for the damage?

I want to know the exact rules on who must pay for a destroyed personal vehicle when fighting other players in GTA online. I know there are several specific rules set in place because of recent events:

 

Most of the time, if you destroy someone else's personal vehicle, you have to pay the total cost of the damage, and if they destroy yours, they pay it for you and you recover your vehicle free of charge. However, I was fighting this one guy tonight because he killed me for no reason, and I kept killing him after he killed me again. I was driving my Entity and the first time he destroyed it, he paid the full amount. The second time he destroyed it (I think), he paid about half ($5,500) and I paid about half ($4,400). I had never seen this half-half thing before, every time insurance was paid in the past it was the full amount of either me or the other player. Anyway, he destroyed my car two more times and I had to pay the full amount both times! Then I went in my garage and came to this forum.

 

With that said, I'm assuming there's a certain number of times you can kill a player before they don't have to pay for your car if they destroy it, but what are those numbers/ rules so I don't have to figure them out? The other day I had a guy killing me over and over and over again in his Entity, reversing into me so my bullets can't hit him, I couldn't do anything and I didn't want to use my grenade launcher because I didn't want to pay $9,900, but after tonight I think after he killed me a certain number of times I may have been able to fight him off!

When the guy that blew up your pv only paid half, that was the last of his money. He couldn't pay any more so you pick up the bill.

 

You also pay your own Insurance if you have a bounty on your head and someone destroys the pv you are driving.

Yes. If someone doesn't have enough cash to pay for your PV, you pay the difference.

 

Note: Don't drive your high end PV's in low level lobbies.

You still have to pay. Say you blow up a PV, let's say an adder (12,500 to replace) and you have 7k, you'll lose your 7k and the other person will pay the rest.

I think people are finding ways to destroy vehicles without paying.

 

I left my Entity somewhere halfway across the map and was notified that it had been destroyed. It didn't say who'd done it, and I had to pay the full cost of replacement.

 

I imagine there's some way of setting up a chain of explosions, or pushing the vehicle into water.

I just made a new character (not for this purpose but for something else) and it seems your character share the same bank account. At level 5 I now have a 70k garage.

So this explains why sometimes I get my car back at no charge and other times why I have to pay for it...

 

I think this is stupid though..

 

I think instead of making you pay for it they put the other person in the red and whatever money they earn the amount they owe get deducted from that amount and it keeps on until they are back in the black again.

Yes, you have to pay for your car if the guy who destroyed it does not have any money. Also, if you have bounty and someone blows your car up while you're in it, you have to pay it for yourself. That sucks huh?

 

Yesterday i came out from my garage with my comet and there was this guy waiting for me. At the same second i got out, he blew up me and my car. After i respawned, i noticed that my car hadn't disappeared and it was just standing there across the road without a single scratch on it. I was kinda confused, because i'm sure it got destroyed. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yeah that happened to me, a guy parked a tank outside of my garage and since my car bumped into it, it teleported inside the tank and it blew up. I respawned and found my car right in front of my garage across the street.

No but I've had my car disappear for a few days only to magically reappear later
