Frank Brown
I wonder if/how they'll create designated landing zones, just so the packages aren't placed in your bushes or on your roof. Since it seems like a Prime only service, maybe they'd give all subscribers a small GPS-like device that the drone would fly to and that has a pre-programmed number that functions as it's 'address' and it's landing zone. Unless it's completely human operated. Edited December 2, 2013 by Vlynor
sivispacem
There are no limitations on them under a certain weight and flying below a certain altitude because they're basically just remote controlled aircraft. Unless you're using them for a business services, then I think you need a license to operate. Or if you fly within a certain proximity of active airports or flight paths. One of those drones will fall on someone's head. They will sue the company, settle out of court and the company will probably stop using drones. sivispacem
Right, because how often do the tens of thousands of flights every day fall on people? What a silly comment. DEALUX
The deliveries better be as safe as before. I wouldn't want to get my package trashed as a result of a malfunctioning drone, especially if I buy something that's quite rare. Honestly, if it's camera monitored, it'd probably be safer than normal. If the package is damaged, the camera should pick it up. If it's stolen, the same thing. I realize it's a joke, but i'd assume they make you pay online first, or over the phone before they send a drone out, you get a unique pin number. They'd also fit the drone with some sort of GPS tracker which alerts you when the drone is almost at the house, when it arrives you enter the unique pin and it allows you to take the pizza. If people try steal the drone it's GPS tracked, and the Pizza is locked into some sort of box until the customers keys the pin so other people can't steal your Pizza. Seeing as how it appears to be an Amazon Prime service (looking at the name "Amazon PrimeAir"), I'm assuming you'll have to be an Amazon Prime customer to even access it (79 USD per year, 39 USD if you're a college student).
