universetwisters
You ever notice how the Army uses round parachutes, like these? Those types of parachutes are badass. My dad used to float to the ground in them when he was a paratrooper. Back to the topic, why is it that every parachute in the GTA series is some kind of ugly rectangular parachute? The round ones look really badass:
Trinette
My knowledge of parachutes is pretty slim but I'm assuming that the rectangular shaped ones we have in V are for maneuverability and efficient gliding as opposed to the rounded ones that are primary geared to bringing you down rather than all around and about. It'd probably require extra unnecessary training for soldiers to use the rectangular type, therefore they used those. Again, nobody chew me out, I know little about parachuting and I'm basing this post off of what I can tell by the architectural difference of both chutes. -maddog-
Normal roundies are old fashioned, military still use them for low drops where maneuvering isnt needed, just getting down without breaking every bone in your body. The rectangular RAM air chutes are the norm now.. Though they didn't get them 100% correct in the game, in reality the cells (ribs) are closed at the back, air doesn't flow through, it just pressurizes the canopy. Apart from that i think they did a good job! Im the one with the black and orange chute in this.. As you can see the back is closed.. It wouldnt work if it had been open because there would be no pressure in it.. Edited December 1, 2013 by -maddog-
