Dropping out of missions

Lately I've encountered this problem where you join/host a mission, see other people join as well, but then when the mission actually launches, it's either you by yourself or some others have dropped out.

 

I joined one of those side missions earlier where there were a total of 9 players. But when the mission launched, there were only 4 of us. Not sure where the other 5 went - did they go into another session of the mission, or did they return to free roam?

 

Anyone else experienced this?

They probably got put into another session of the mission. I've seen this about 5 times I think, it's most common during playlists and I think it's mainly just some kind of lag/connection issue.
