Passive mode doesn't really do anything because other players can still bomb you, run you over, and shoot you when you're in a vehicle. FUUAARRRKKK ROCKSTAR GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER!

Read passive mode.... it clearly states while on foot... they can't kill you unless you get ran over or get in a vehicle.

They should just change it where you can still use your guns to defend from cops,gangs. But you can't shoot at other players if you do the bullets go through them. Also Passive mode players cant use explosives weps.

Can't be bombed while in passive mode (outside of a car). I've had dozens of people try to sticky me while I'm idling.

Yep, completely invincible, as long as you don't stand in the middle of the road.

 

The only problem with passive mode is that people use it without reading what it does. This guy was obviously inside a car.

No way to make it so you're unkillable in a vehicle since in-game vehicles count as weapons and passive mode = you can't use weapons...so while "using a weapon" you're no longer in passive mode so yeah..just stay off the roads, when someone goes to run me over I make a dash for alley ways or elevated surfaces and mock them.

I love that passive mode instantly disables when you're inside a vehicle. The logic is that vehicles are a weapon, but you know what else is a weapon? Weapons. Nothing surprises people more than getting into a vehicle while in passive mode and immediately shooting them out the window.

Passive Mode is pretty much pointless. Sure, it's great if there are no cars nearby, but if someone gets a car, then your Passive Mode becomes a curse since you got to wait 10 seconds to even draw weapons against someone who tries to drive you over.

 

Passive Mode should remove all damage, be it falling, diving or bullets. But Passive Mode should also remove the ability to damage people by driving over them and the ability to use weapons in vehicles. This would apply to weapons like missiles on Buzzard or Sticky Bomb on normal cars.

They changed it (I think in 1.06) to

 

 

If you need some time to explore without unnecessary and invasive interruptions, turn on Passive Mode.

When enabled, and on foot, other players can't shoot you and you can't shoot them. It’s wildly unrealistic.

 

which more accurately represents the mechanics of passive mode.

It's not supposed to be "creative mode" where you can just do whatever you want without consequence. It does exactly what it advertises.

Passive Mode should allow people to be "Passive", not let them be crash test ragdolls to people who happen to have a car.

Rockstar is willing to be wildly unrealistic but not over the top, I mean come on...can you imagine how silly it would be seeing a dude in passive mode being shoved across the map (while standing perfectly still and standing) across the map by an adder/entity etc.

Not to mention, they wouldn't do that either way, because there's a limit of 16 players per session. Anyone who wants to be 100% invincible in a public session may as well be in an Invite Only session since none of the other players could interact with them anyways. They would just be wasting a slot that an actual player could be using.

Passive mode is a good way to avoid being spawn killed but that's about it.

 

I suspect that was its intended use in the first place.

I use passive sometimes to get in the passenger seat of people's cars who are trying to kill me, they never kick me out until they get out and I get in the driver seat and start driving off.

Ok - thats the better description through the interaction menu but the exact phrase through the Pause Menu & tool tips (and a slightly expanded but similar version online) was

 

Turn on Passive Mode to prevent damage between you and other players

I'd be careful of that, they can turn around and shoot you through the window before your character can get behind the wheel :p
