Stat Degradation

GTA Online: Don't leave Los Santos for too long! Your character stats will degrade over time.

Genuinely the first i've heard of this. Possibly the single worst thing i've heard about GTA Online since it's launch - the lowest of low tactics to keep people playing.

I presume this refers to stuff like Driving ans Shooting skills and the like?

Yes it does refer to all of your character stats and this is not the first game that degrades your stats or rank for not playing.

All of the stats with the exception of strength and lung capacity (which does nothing anyway) are pretty damned easy to get back by simply playing the game. I wouldn't worry about it.

Haven't seen it in action yet. Haven't played in days actually, as even I am starting to get fed up with there not being any update on the new content, not wanting to play without friends that will only come to check out the new content.

Stats can't drop down a big bar. If you're on 79 the skill can drop to 60 but, if you're on 80 the skill can't drop at all. So if you get 100 for a skill you don't need to worry about them degrading (a couple of times I've not played for a week and not noticed any stats dropping).

If it was strength, that might be a special case...there was a strength reset though not all players report it affecting them.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure on this? Sure they weren't at 99% instead of 100%? (This happened to me once). I think there have been periods of 2 weeks where I haven't used my 2nd character and his Shooting/Driving is still at 100, but his other skills have dropped by a lot.

Also think I've periods of about 5 days where I haven't played at all and I haven't noticed my main character's stats dropping.

And yeah strength got reset for a lot of players so that's not normal stats degradation.

Really? Maybe i've been living in a cave or something, as i've never heard of a game pulling this kind of caper.

Still doesn't change my opinion - that being, total bullsh*t. Clearly R* isn't very confident in long-term playability and success of future content releases if they're stooping to these tactics. I'm surprised the game doesn't say "Hey, you've been walking and flying around a lot lately! We've taken one of your cars away, since you clearly weren't using it."

Just for an example: In the CoD: BO2 zombies mode you will lose your rank (Knife, Shotguns, ect) If you do not play for a certain amount of time.

I play on a weekly basis and I've only lost strength, which was due to the update.

It's looking like I won't get online at all this weekend so I'll see what happens after 2 weeks.

Random Observer

I've had my strength degrade three times during online. First time it was by R* punishing me from punching cars, the two other time by not playing enough.

After the reset I went to the Del Perro pier to smack some NPC's and got the bar full, after that, I've gotten the 100/100 for strength come up twice.

Each time, I haven't been on online for a few days+ haven't really hit anyone(players or NPC's).

If they've stopped playing, could they give a sh*t what their stats are gonna be? Start me back over.. give me a reason to turn the game on.

I had my 100% (certain) stealth drop a little after not playing that character for a couple weeks.

I haven't played much since the 1.06 patch, I'll try to wait another week and see what the effect is.

I believe it means that your stats will degrade for leaving the city of LS for too long in game. Not for not playing

Hmm. I might have to look into this again then. Did any of your other stats drop at all?

It might just be that stats dropping down a big-bar is much slower than normal. Still I really haven't noticed much of a problem despite extended periods of not playing.

Also maybe playing on either character prevents star-degredation for both?

Nah, that is why you switch hands now and then

Instead of trying to make us play by threats of stats coming down, why don't they pull their fingers out and release some heists?

Only my stealth dropped and the reason I hadn't played that character is because I was playing my other character.

I'd like to have more than one incident to go on. It's not impossible this was an uncommon bug. Unfortunately any of my friends who haven't played in a while most likely won't be certain what their stats were. So short of waiting another week before playing I'm out of ideas to test this further immediately.

Edit: I maxed out my stealth in one fell swoop a bit back even before flying was maxed so I don't think it was a cloud error since I didn't lose anything else.

I am starting to think the Heists and these missions that were 'taken out' were actually a lie to make the game sound much better than it actually was. I don't think Rockstar are very confident in their own product. GTA 5 is a great game, GTA:O was a lot of promise and a lack of substance, don't get me wrong, there is a lot to do in the game, but after reaching a certain rank it becomes very repetitive and this is boring after a while. I reached rank 150 before they patched the racing RP and all that and I frequently find myself with nothing to do which is why I don't really bother playing Online anymore.

I've yet to notice stats degrading on my character yet, I'll take a look to confirm this maybe another 4 days down the line, then it'll be a week since I played GTA:O.

That is a big confirmation on stat degradation. Just logged in and my strength is slightly down from 100%.

I love this idea.

I think they should expand it out so that individual skill sets are monitored separately - 'shooting' split into 'sniper', 'shotgun', 'machine gun' etc, driving split to 'cars', 'bikes', helicopters' etc

Then also to have degradation of those skills.

This way people might actually have different skill sets - and not all 100/100 everything, which is the most boring thing possible.

I would have high sniper and pistol skills but low shotgun and machine gun skills. I'd also be a skilled helicopter pilot but a terrible airplane pilot - for instance.
