GTA V - is it really that bad?

It's not terrible, but it's not that great, either. Know wut I mean? It just isn't on par with what GTA's should be at this point. Lets chalk it up as a loss, move on, and hope that GTA 6 whoops major ass!! Lets just hope they get someone else to pick the music for it for gods sakes.

Some people might have liked IV all along but they sure weren't very vocal about it until recently. Sometimes I felt like I was the only one that liked IV which is the way I feel with V these days. I have always loved it so it's great that it's getting positive attention but let's not bash V for being different.

I've always been very vocal about my fandom of GTA IV personally speaking. Ask anyone who's ever been in a debate with me between 2008 and before the release of GTA V. ;)

Infact the reason I changed my name was to reflect the fact I'm a very passionate GTA IV fan.

i dont understand why everyone was disappointed with gta V, I mean what the f*ck were they expecting. People say "Well it just got boring to fast"….. What. the campaign is about 30 hours alone! plus you'll spend twice that time free roaming! PLUS online, its just icing on the cake. Bottom line Gta V is probably my favorite game. I love it and I've poured days upon days into it. Its the best Gta And one of the best games ever made.

I know that but in 2012 it felt like you and I were pretty much the only ones that loved it and on other video game boards forget about it. All I heard was how much better Saints Row was. That is why I very much understand the direction R took. There was no way they were going to make two games like IV in a row.

I've seen you too often on this subject tar everybody with same brush. There were many critics of GTA IV, but many of them thought Saints Row was rubbish compared to it. I've been on these forums a long time, and I don't remember so many people claiming that SR 2 and above were anywhere near better than GTA IV.

And ask Son Of Liberty, I changed my mind about IV long before V came out. I was a bit of a critic of IV at first, but when I played it a second time + Episodes, I liked it a lot more than I initially did. Long before V came out.

I do remember in the weeks leading up to GTA V the GTA IV bashing was noticeably quite bad, but I think most GTA IV fans have always tended to stick to the GTA IV forum and general series chat.

Not this board but on other boards there was a general consensus that Saints Row was what GTA used to be and IV went in a way too serious direction. It was a very common view.

Most open world games I do not really play the game itself but instead start modding the sh*t out of it and create my own game. Skyrim.... the main story... WTF wtf... how did that game get game of the year? or how did it get all the badass publicity and high ratings.... NOT THE STORY but the world.... it was the world people loved... who cares about that dragon? who... then the expansion... I didnt care about the bad guys I just wanted my beloved Solstein back where I could live in Thirsk and drink mead every day like I did in blood moon...

My Skyrim isnt even skyrim... I build an orc town with my orc character who can have unlimited amounts of followers so I spend my time spawning large groups of thalmor, imperials.... ect you name it.. and attacking my player built orc town while trying not to crash from all the unscripted nonsense going on....

The above is how I play most open world games... I mean I dont even know what I am doing in far cry 3... setting up pirate bases in the jungle???

Now... Rock * tortures me by making red dead redemption on ps3 only.... I HAVE to buy a ps3.... and now that I cant mod the sh*t out of REd dead... (Oh the things I would do if I could) turning it into a wild west battlefield of self spawned armies... or building a player home cabin in the woods of my own. NO I had to PLAY the game... and really Red Dead Redemption was prolly the best story line to ever come out of a game that I have played RIP John... you were my boy!

Now.. to get to your question ... GTAV..... it doesnt allow for the sort of sandbox build your own town and manage the sh*t feel that San andreas had..... San Andreas was much more sandbox.... like I dont even remember the story... just that corrupt cop who smoked the bong... ya this mother Fker...

5-gtasa05.gif

Anyways... GTA V... the story wasnt as good as red dead.... Red deads made sense... was believeable... nothing happened that was too absurd... You were the LEGEND of the west... and still it kept its realism. GTA V is sort of off the wall... the heists are sort of absurd.. like WHY why? why do that? and sometimes the story is choppy.... there were times where I was like "Yaaa things are getting interesting" then sh*t just stops... for no reason... and they do random heists and story starts back again then you are like "ok ok back like a movie"

Thing is... its choppy... its 3 stories that are intertwined but you end up not caring about anyone enough to give a sh*t.... The heists are epic... like stupid epic... if you want beleiveable bank heists go play payday or something... which.. actually once I get my PC up and going I might buy the new one because PAY day online seems to be everything GTA O online was supposed to be...

Anyways.. Its also not like the first GTA's where you just do missions for cash rewards.... MOST MISSIONS HAVE NO REWARD but the ones that do have huge payouts.... its sort of odd...

Anyways... its a great game... get it for the open world sand box if anything... the story is grand, it is keeping me interested... but i am frankly more interested in GTA O more than anything.

The Detail of the world is unmatched... the only thing that grinds my gears is you cant enter buildings.. where in REd dead you could go inside just about every building.

IMHO, the game was well worth the wait and I am very happy that I bought it. However, the game does have its shortcomings, and I personally feel that more could have been done to bolster up the Single Player mode quite a bit. So many things left undone for the SP mode. There is a part of me that feels as though the SP was a bit neglected for GTAO, but that's just me. Excellent game that I have been predominantly been playing since its release. I would not give it the 10/10 that all these other sites/fans are giving it though.

I don't know how anyone can really say this game is crap or that it isn't worth the money or a play through. Compared to practically anything else on the market for $60, GTAV is worth every last penny.

People got too hyped and they disappointed themselves. I don't recall R* ever lying about features in the game that were ultimately not there.

What we read into things were ultimately the grand ideas and thoughts of the websites and magazines that conducted the interviews and how impressed they were with what they saw. The same holds true for any other triple A title that has been hyped since...ever. GTAV is being put under the microscope because it just might be the biggest release of all time, and that holds true if you look at the statistics for the most units sold in a 24 hour period.

I don't agree that GTAV is awful, crap, biggest disappointment of all time, etc. etc. and I do understand people have a right to their opinion but in MY opinion, I don't think any of those statements are valid, period.

I totally expected this reaction though. Anything hyped to this level is going to have its share of people who want to lash out and say things that arent warranted to cause a reaction.

What was the last release that was hyped to this level?...GTAIV back in 2008. And what I find hilarious and predictable was that on this very website and others, up until the release of GTAV, was that the consensus seemed to be that GTAIV was awful, crap, biggest disappointment of all time, etc. etc. and now with GTAV released, there's nothing but topics about how amazing it was. And the same thing will happen once GTAVI is released, no matter how awesome that is. Its just the way it goes.

But I can say GTAV is not perfect. So many things were improved upon and I was floored by the level of detail that was put into the game and how much was added but with so many improvements, there's going to be those areas of the game that felt totally undercooked in comparison. The side characters weren't as memorable as the other GTA's and the main characters and Lamar were really the only ones I cared about. The property buying and management aspects weren't as great as I was hoping but I know that feature was only added after the backlash R* got when they first said there were no properties to buy. There are definitely other areas but overall the game is still one of the best I've played this generation and is my personal GOTY.

the amount of diversity in activities is rather limited compared to something like Skyrim.

How is that possibly true? Skyrim has the same gameplay throughout the entire game, but GTAVs gameplay changes dramatically with every activity.

Gameplay changes based on whether you want to be a warrior, thief, mage or combination of the above. Each employs a different strategy. I can be a merchant that just wanders around gathering ingredients to make and sell potions if that's how I want to play the game. Which activities are you referring to? Are they a satisfying way to keep playing or are you doing the same things over and over in the same locations?

I guess I wasn't really taking into account the variety you get with your traditional RPG classes/roles/etc and that type of deal. All of that stuff usually adds a tremendous amount of replay value in nearly every good RPG game and the ability to customize your character to such an extent is always fun and nice. But I don't think it's really the same.

What I'm talking about is how in Skyrim, you're generally running around and killing sh*t, be it with a warhammer, a bow and arrow, or sneaking around and stabbing sh*t in the back. And you can mess around with enchanting or potions and all that jazz and it's nice, but, see,

In this game, you're driving cars and shooting sh*t. And playing tennis, and diving with sharks, and flying planes, and golfing, etc etc

All of them contrast each other dramatically. I'm probably not explaining myself very well but you see what I mean?

I see where you're coming from and in that respect you're correct. But I guess it doesn't FEEL very diverse to me. This is more of a limitation in my way of thinking than a fault of the game. I'm not accustomed to GTA's "style" having spent the majority of my RPG experience in fantasy or sci-fi environments. I spend most of my time driving around, robbing trucks and killing people. I still haven't achieved 100%. Just don't try to convince me that yoga counts as a worthwhile way to pass time. :D

Online is pretty funky at the moment, but it's alright. Single Player isn't some grand masterpiece, game of all games, but it isn't absolute sh*t like everyone makes it out to be.

Of course it's going to sound bad when some GTA:SA fanboy high on nostalgia lists everything "wrong" in GTA V, and doesn't bother mentioning the pros of the game. The problem here is that almost all the people on this forum aren't reviewing anything. They're either blindly saying it's literally perfect, or that it's complete trash while they cuss out everyone else.

Really, it's a fun game, and the side activities will keep you busy for a while. Especially if you buy all the properties in the game. The story is pretty okay, but in my opinion it isn't as good as IV's. Some of the mechanics and gameplay though, you can tell Rockstar cut some corners - when you compare it to IV, RDR or MP3. The mission variety is nice, a lot better than IV. Some are really fun.

I do feel like though Rockstar took two steps forward, and one step back with this game. They still haven't found that perfect balance between gameplay and story yet, which I find surprising - they almost had it perfect with RDR in my opinion, but hopefully they get it right with the next game.

My problems with V include:

The Money: Money is so useless in this game. Sure its hard to get at first but once you finish the last heist and use the stock market for the assassination missions then you will have so much money with NOTHING to spend it on. The special edition guns and Beach Bum shouldn't be free. They should cost money. All guns should cost the same amount that they do Online.

Activities: Golf is ok, tennis is alright, darts is boring and bowling/pool should of taken its place. Movie theater?? Really I thought this is a video game not a movie. Same can be said about TV. Hunting is a poorly done activity and they should of just had it similar to RDR. I'm counting the Stock market as a activity which is done great but most the people I know said they rather have a casino then that.

Gang Life: They show Franklin's trailer like he's a gang banger and we might get 5-7 missions with him gang banging. In my opinion the gang banging missions are way better then the corrupt government missions we had though out the WHOLE game. The Families know and respect Franklin yet he can't recruit any and attack the ballas. You don't even see them fighting out in the street. I once had a 3 star wanted level and wanted to see if bringing the cops to grove street would have the ballas shoot them. The results were they didn't do NOTHING.

The Map: Los Santos is great city that should of been bigger compared to the countryside. At least the city had things to do around it while Blaine County had nothing but mountains around. Sandy Shores is the only town worth going to. I like Paleto Bay more but there is nothing to do out there. Why can't we rob the same bank again. That would give that town a bigger use. Even put bowling out there.

Cops: Cops are way too aggressive in this game. Just today I'm driving down the highway heading to Paleto Bay and a cop driving on the wrong side of the highway hits me and I get a star for that? How is that right? Next is the helicopter spawning. They spawn right in front of you and have the best view in finding you. How is that fair? Being in the countryside with a 3 star isn't fun.

I won't even talk about story unless you guys want my opinion on that.

Can you like... Write in a lighter colour? It's really f*cking hard to read what you write.

Go outside this forum and for the most part the response has been very good. Even the Saints Row forum seems to like this game. I don't know what is up with this forum but from what I hear the same happened when IV was released and now they seem to love it so they will love V again when VI is released if patterns repeat themselves.

This.

No, it's the best GTA yet for the rare people who actually play games for gameplay, this forum is full of haters which can be summed up with the following:

  • Story Whores: All these people do is think that story is one determining factor of a game and that it fixes all of a games issues.
  • San Andreas Fanboys: San Andreas was a great game (IMO, the best GTA before GTA V's release) but any feature that was in San Andreas which is not in GTA V is complained about, for example, people complain about the fact that things like pool and dancing are absent from GTA V.
  • Pickers: People who complain about very insignificant things, for example, GTA V doesn't have [iNSERT GENERIC CAR HERE].

Algonquin Assassin

Now that my characters have billions I enjoy just modding any vehicle I can get my hands on. I try to come up with the craziest color schemes and combinations.

It's a shame we have limited garage space. I'd go crazy modding cars if we could buy additional garages.

That's my biggest issue. I still enjoy V, but after IV and it's DLCs I was expecting some really good storytelling especially with having the three player-character dynamic but they dummbed it down so much.

Lock n' Stock

I see where you're coming from and in that respect you're correct. But I guess it doesn't FEEL very diverse to me. This is more of a limitation in my way of thinking than a fault of the game. I'm not accustomed to GTA's "style" having spent the majority of my RPG experience in fantasy or sci-fi environments. I spend most of my time driving around, robbing trucks and killing people. I still haven't achieved 100%. Just don't try to convince me that yoga counts as a worthwhile way to pass time. :D

The thing about Skyrim for me is that there always seems like something you haven't done yet, with the hundreds of quests and dozens of explorable dungeons and caves. While GTA V does have a 100% meter which somewhat indicates you've done everything, I've never felt that way playing Skyrim or any other Elder Scrolls game for what matter.

• Stories belong in games, games are like an interactive movie, a GTA is nothing without its story, without a story what are supposed to do? Run people over for endless time?

• GTA SA still takes the cake from my point of view. (This point is really subjective, there's no such thing as best GTA, just because you think that V is "the best" it doesn't make it a fact, it's just an opinion in the end.

GTAF has about what 500,000 members?. GTA has sold 150 million copies, GTAF barely constitutes 5% of the GTA Fanbase. Take a look at the comments on forums and sites like gamespot, IGN, youtube etc. Almost all the time they are positive and it has a user rating of 8.1 on metacritic.

It's not perfect by any means, but it's probably as good as you're gonna get for a game this gen. Best game of the gen is a toss-up between Skyrim, GTA V, RDR, and TLoU imo.

It's not even the garage space that bothers me, it's the fact that we can't insure them like in multiplayer. Now I end up doing the same exact thing I did in SA when I tuned up a car real nice, which was look at it in my garage and never drive it because I don't want to lose it.

I drive it, I just make sure to never lose it. I don't do missions or anything, I just cruise and listen to the radio. This is probably boring to a lot of people, but hey, I love it.

I just disable autosave when I want to drive one of my cars and when I am done I reload the save. That solves the problem. I agree that their should be more garage space. I love the cars in this game but I wish I could have them all and insure them.

So far I am convinced that GTA V is nothing but pile of crap, since people are complaining about it so much. I do not own a console,I own a personal computer and I cannot wait for the release but what I read on the net makes me think that the whole GTA V hype didnt live up to what Rockstar has promised us.

Funnny.. I think GTA V is one of the best games I've ever played.

Maybe stop listening to bitches? You know they are all full of sh*t right?
