GTA Online: My opinions so far

Its a lazy Friday night at 11:30. Sitting in my armchair, listening to my Death Metal collection with my LAPtop in my LAP, going back and forth between GTAForums and messaging my girlfriend on Facebook. (God, I love her)

In the GTA V section, this one thread caught my eye. Yes, it was just another of the over 9000 rant threads about how GTA has gone to sh*t with the evolution in native Multiplayer.

I finally caved in and decided to give my two cents on the matter.

I'm the kind of person who wants to write a short and simple paragraph but always ends up typing a f*cking novel so as you can imagine, I simply end up just writing about my observations of the flawed MMORPG. As it was a reply to a thread, I thought "Who is actually going to see this let alone agree with me?" The OP, I hope. Otherwise, I thought these rants and observations would be better placed in their own thread.

Being said, this is ANOTHER ONE OF THE OVER 9000 RANT THREADS ABOUT HOW GTA HAS GONE TO SH*T WITH THE EVOLUTION IN NATIVE MULTIPLAYER. If you don't enjoy reading walls of text, than nobody is physically stopping you from going somewhere else.

Since you are still here, these are my takes so far.

I will be writing more on the subject once it comes to me. Maybe I will compile it all eventually and publish an autobiography on GTA Traditionalism. If you want to pwn me in a DM, add me on PSN. Its in my siggy. However, don't count on me as I am not online at fixed times. unlike most of you 30 year old men who have all the time in the world for hardcore gaming (Lel)

San Andreas, the crown jewel of GTA had a lot of things cut too.

Still not as much and/or significant as what was cut from GTA V however.

Every time I play GTA:O, I just think to myself "What the f*ck is this?"

At this point, we can't do much about the epidemic of Online Multiplayer. I, myself have a DM now and again (I'm the guy in the middle of the leaderboard with no friends :( )

Anyway, but yes, I agree with OP that GTA is traditionally a single player game, whereas games like COD can thrive on the multiplayer culture (I will have no part)

Whenever I play single player, I feel pressure to conform to those of us who have joined the Multiplayer revolution, rather than stay with my fellow traditionalists.

I put around 10 hours into GTA:O so far. I'm barely a rank 10 with $30'000 to my name and a not so impressive K/D ratio.

I haven't played GTA IV online, but I'm aware of its simple, jump right in Multiplayer in comparison to GTA V. GTA V places more empathizes on capitalism, grinding, overly complex rankings, microtransactions. It basically gives off a message that only that which has no life can rank up over 30 without glitching or real world trading.

I'm sitting in the lobby, just my rank 10 pride and I see a whole array of different people getting ready to kill eachother. We have those rank 3s and 4s fresh out the tutorial, we have our rank 100s who obviously are either uber glitchers or 30 year old men who'd rather have GTA all nighters than embrace their hot wife under the sheets. We also have our middle ground too with those in the 30s and 40s. In fact, one of my friends claim he saw a rank 1000, although he may have misread it and was actually 100.

Still an impressive feat either way.

As I indicated earlier, GTA Online has progressive unlocking. I thought the game was kind of unfair in general that we low ranks only get pistols and SMGs, whereas the elite get machine guns and snipers. I don't consider myself a n00b, god forbid, but I still believe equal opportunity. Considering the amount of people who autoaim and how the guns work, I think who wins these DMs is more about the hardware than raw skill.

Its great that GTA 5's online is more advanced than the previous incarnations, but sometimes less is more. You tried to fuse an arcade shooter with an MMORPG. I don't think it worked too well.

Although you seem to enjoy writing, you still come across as a twat.

You seem to take an interest in videogaming, but you are quick to put down anyone who does good at them. Any level 30+ in V is either a uber glitcher or a 30 year old man who has no life.....cause everyone knows, obviously, that when you hit 30 and have a couple kids, you have all the time in the world for video games.

The truth is you have played for 10 hours and obviously aren't very good at it....which, in itself is not the problem. The problem is that your inadequacy to gain rank and money makes you think that your opinion is in any way more interesting than that of a regular video game enthusiast who ranked to level, let's say 15, and made twice that money in the same amount of time, but chooses not to write a "review" where he talks about his girlfriend or whatever is tucked in his lap about it.

Nonetheless, your "wall of text" pales in comparison to it's actual content. So you PM your girlfriend while you look at your laptop. Cool. You are sitting in the lobby wondering why others have machine guns and you have pistols. Great. It's all good and powerfully philosophical but have you actually stepped outside and played missions and such? You are summarily describing your woes as a free roaming insecure noob and you expect people to take an interest in your discovery of the game?

No one cares, it's been out for two months.

You want to write what you consider to be a wall of text about your impressions of an immensely popular video game and almost apologize for it, the first half of your post being dedicated to justify your need to create this thread.

You state that you do not consider yourself a noob, but seem to emphasize a subjective detachment from video game culture because you appear to still be trying to righteously find your rhythm amidst the chaos of GTAO like a good little kid, while emphasizing your assumption that you are either playing with other noobs, or uber glitchers who have reached level 30(!). Where do YOU fit in?

When is the last time you have read an article from a credible video game source that calls people out on what they do with their free time then goes on to proclaim that a game is not that good because they couldn't do sh*t with it after 10 hours?

I do not think you have the talent (either in writing or gaming) or the confidence of a self-assumed video game enthusiast to stop looking down on the life of others and make your thread interesting while you progress in the game, but you will get better at it I'm sure.

Sit your ass down and think before you write, son.

You may have also paid for the multiplayer part, but no one is forcing you to play multiplayer. If you don't like it, then don't play it.
