Would you watch a show like this?

I'm getting my new HD capture device for Christmas, and I had an idea for a show to make.

It'd basically be a MST3k style riffing of people playing the game. The footage would all be captured by watching random people on TV from my apartment, with snarky comments and pop-culture jokes being overlaid, again, much like MST3k.

Maybe have three characters on a couch with live intro and outro bits, much like MST3k?

I dunno, I'm just spitballing ideas here. If anyone has any ideas for a running machinima show, primarily focusing on comedy, please, let me know. And let me know what you think of the MST3k idea. Thanks. :)

What on Earth are you about?

About 6'3".

But seriously, I want to make an MST3k style machinima featuring GTAOnline. If you don't know about MST3k, may i suggest Google?

Me and you have had our arguments but I think this would be interesting. I hardly ever see anyone do something interesting on TV but it would be different and nice to just see the crazy antics.

I'm afraid I don't care enough to know and I don't respect you enough to even consider your suggestion.

But... you can reply here twice?

Whatever floats your boat, Mr. I need respect on the internet to take suggestions on using Google.

Thanks for the input guys. :) I'm starting to feel pretty good about this idea the more I think about it.

Also, should I script events for the show, or should I just capture random footage, find the interesting bits, then write the commentary? I'm worried about sorting through hours of footage just to find gold. It might be easier to set up scenarios, but that would be a lot more work, and would feel a bit... disingenuous?

You could always do what most 'reality' shows do and have a mix of both, with a bit of, shall we call it, "creative" editing thrown in for good measure.

hrmmm... this is out there but you could do both. scripted segments in between real, random footage. like a sketch show format.

it'll be a lot of work either way hahaha but theres enough craziness in some of these lobbies to get some footage. make a 2nd throw away character and get him in a bad sport maybe

Interesting.

/takes notes furiously

Yeah, I was thinking of having sketches throughout the show, (again, similar to MST3k) to break it up for those that have limited attention spans. Those would have to be scripted and acted out. Perhaps a recurring segment or two?

Recurring segments can work very well when used sparsely, IMO. A lot of youtubers tend to have alternate 'characters' as well. Use with caution. /unsolicited advice.

Most reality shows, what most people don't realize is that the majority of that drama you see when u watch it, is caused by production people and the creators. They are master sh*t stirrers. But for the love of greed the people are willing to air it all do it to themselves. After about 3-4 seasons with most of them they fade out, bc the people on the show eventually wake up and realize that the few million they made compared to the few hundred million the creators most likely made isn't worth it, and on top of that loss of friends, alienation from family members etc.

Fame or Shame doesn't want spelling bee champs, they want girls who will throw their thong into the crowd and grab random sets of balls for a price that most well paid strippers would laugh at.

I'm pretty sure that's about the worst kept secret since Area 51, jussayin'.

'Reality' shows, unscripted, semi-scripted or whatever else, always take things out of context, and it's usually pretty obvious. My favorite part is when they have some baritone voiceover guy try turning everything into a dramatic moment. "If Angie doesn't make this cocktail fast enough, her customer MIGHT NOT LEAVE A TIP!" That, and the 'dramatic drums' get me every time. It's pretty much self-parody at this point.

Maybe OP could make a satire reality show of Los Santos as one of his segments?

On things like Funniest Videos, the emcee(s) introduce the next segment and set up the situation. Maybe between the segments like this, you could use some snippets of captured in-game video of the NPC pedestrians saying some GTAV's absurdist dialog on their cell phones as they walk by, and use them as background audio / video for the Emcees to comment on, at the same time as they are doing their segment intro. If you green-screen the emcee(s), you could have the NPC sidewalk video in the background, as though the emcee(s) are standing or sitting right on the Los Santos / Blaine County street.
