Off Road Wheels on a sports car

So I have a Sultan and for some reason I never had the urge to upgrade the tires until now. I used to have stock wheels and with those it handled both the pavement and dirt great. I upgraded to some new wheels, forgot which ones but they seemed to make my Sultan handle a tid bit better on the pavement and perhaps a bit worse on the dirt.

 

Is this because of the type of wheels? or am I just having this illusion because I just bought the wheels and I am tricking myself into thinking they actually do something other than cosmetics.

 

So I ask.. Do the different types of wheels mean anything? or are they purely cosmetic... If I wanted to have say.. a road/classy Sultan with street wheels and a Sultan for rally racing and dirt road driving, Would it be beneficial to put off road wheels on the dirt treading one or are all wheels purely cosmetic and I am wasting my $$$

I don't think wheels affect the handling of your vehicle at all. They are purely cosmetic. (I might be wrong though)

But I've seen people say it makes a difference and people say it doesn't. I haven't decided yet...

A while back, there was a dedicated thread for all the car mechanics. Someone even posted a Google Docs file of all of the vehicle properties and stats. No one seemed to find a correlation between tires and performance, though.

Ya, thing is they arnt even tires but "wheels" so I mean it has to be cosmetic. Maybe different wheels have different size... It's weird, I feel like the wheels on my sultan now are smaller than the ones I used to have on it, so it seems to be a quicker whip on the road but slower on the dirt... which is kind of the opposite of what I wanted.... however the difference is so small it might just be my mind playing tricks on me.

 

When I bought the wheels I liked the design but after looking at it from all angles they "appear" smaller.... might just be the design though. I just want to know if there is a distinct difference or some sort of definitive answer for how "wheels" are linked with performance... the general consensus is purely cosmetic, and I am on board there, however something feels a bit different since I got the wheel change.... Only on my Sultan tho... my Bullet I just got upgraded wheels to match a new pant job... and I feel absolutely no difference.

Putting custom rims on a merrywwathee jeep makes its roll even easier because custom wheels are smaller than the defaults.
