GTAV: Rockstar Games Fooled All of Us

To begin with I want to say that GTAV is an amazing game, but nonetheless it could have been way bigger and better as discovered in the games files.

For more information have a look at this: http://gtaforums.com/topic/654431-casino-opening-confirmed/?p=1064157163

What I want to say is that R* fooled us during the entire marketing period - running from October 2011 to September 17 and beyond.

They promised it to be their biggest game yet - in terms of map size this might be true - but in terms of gameplay it's just a big lie. The moment I saw the leaked map of Los Santos and Blaine County on the internet - a few days before the games official release - we all had to see it. There was barely any side activity stuff seen on the map, one strip club, hundreds of tennis courts, two Yoga spots, one Dart icon and a Hunting icon. At that moment I thought, well, where's the minigames, where's the Burger Shot or Cluckin' Bell icons.

What I intend to say with the above is that R* promised way more with GTAV than they kept in the end. There's literally only the golf minigame which really stands out - I mean R* said they don't want to make so much content but instead focus on few flashed out ones - but let's face it, besides golf there's not really a minigame which would have taken a long time to develop. Yoga? I mean Yoga??? R* could have well saved some time putting their efforts into it and rather keep finishing coding the Basketball minigame, or Pool, Bowling, Air Hockey, etc.

Another thing is Hunting. I was thrilled to say that for the first time animals would be in a GTA game. All what's left now is a total letdown. Deers, deers, deers ... deers everywhere - and a few dogs in the city - that's about it. No bears or so. There should have been lots of other animals, based on Red Dead Redemption - I mean I thought the whole countryside was going to be like RDR. It would have made so much more sense than the countryside from GTAV. A big useless mountain here, another useless mountain there.

What did R* call it - a fully fleshed out Mt. Chiliad or words like that? Well all I can find is a blank big box of textures, without any trees, one road up the mountain which seems like it was made literally an hour before the game was pressed for the public - because the road is just leading up the mountain straight - I remember the road up Mt. Chiliad from SA (PS2 era) - that's what a road up a mountain is supposed to be - I mean this road makes it impossible to drive up with bigger vehicles - it's just impossible to climb up their because the layout of the road is so f****ed up. Sorry but that must have been said. One big mountain - with coves, animals, trees, tents, campfires, various roads leading up to the mountain, etc. would have done the job in addition to the desert, etc. but instead R* chooses to make thousands of stupid and useless blank mountains - where there's nothing to do, nothing to find and where you can't even drive up because the roads are so f*cked up and lazy build. Side note: It takes more time to drive up Mt. Chiliad in SA (PS2 era) than in GTAV, even though Mt. Chiliad in V is supposed to be a lot bigger. But the f****ed up road layout and general layout of the mountain is so horrible, just horrible.

The lack of trees is a pain too - countryside without trees, come on - I still believe R* should have cut parts out of the map and instead make the stuff it's supposed to look and be. What's the sense of such a huge world where there's nothing to do. Red Dead Redemption had a f*cking huge map too, but strangely it felt so alive - there was something to discover around EVERY corner, literally - the hunting was so appealing - there were trees! I don't know what has happened but Blaine County is a lazy build - it was either that R* ran out of time or, ... no I can't think of anything else.

The parachutes are back, yeah! But why can't we put them on our back manually? Why aren't they visible while walking or so. It's looking f*cking stupid and ridiculous when in mid-air the parachute is appearing out of nowhere on the back of the protagonists. Why can't we choose to have the parachute on or not - why is it automatically enabled when jumping. I don't get this.

The skymmer has been cut too in the course of developement - I see, ironically it was one of the first ever seen planes from GTAV, appeared in the debut trailer. I have no idea why the have cut this one.

I don't want to start talking about the underwater part of GTAV. You know the story behind it. Rockstar promised a fully detailed, explorable ocean floor - this must have been the biggest joke during the marketing from GTAV.

I don't understand, were you not one of the fanboys defending this game when I said this game was a let down? I see you have a change of heart. We all know Rockstar lied to us. Half the activities are a joke, ocean is a joke, countryside feels like a rush add on, and the whole East Los Santos with the gangs feels poorly done. No random gang fights in the street? This world isn't alive.

Seriously, have you succumbed into the part of the forums where there are pricks who preach all day long that this game a total failure?

You got some good points there, i especially agree with mount chilliad rant. It was so much better made in SA.

Even though I do not agree with this, I can understand your gripes, although they are all rather petty when compared to the bigger picture.

However, the lack of trees I don't understand. I wonder if they put in loads of trees you'd express your annoyance at crashing into one every other corner.

I do agree on some things. Yoga is the most useless, pointless activity in any open-world game, period. I'm not that fond of tennis and golf either, I'd play Wii Sports for them, not GTA. Better activities could have been added.

Personally if there were more criminal related side missions I would still be playing GTA V. You have to play GTAO to experience all the good things about GTA V.

A new rule should be added. Anybody who replies to a thread with a pointless video, picture, tl;dr, or a nobody gives a f*ck about your opinion post should be banned for three weeks. Do it again and get banned permanently. Boy would I love that. :colgate:

Now onto the topic itself, when I saw this list I cringed. Seriously, who decided to remove all of this? Was it for the pointless graphics we have now or the good framerate? Seriously, I would rather have IV graphics and IV framerate with all of the little details from IV and more activities, as opposed to what we have now known as V.

To me, all V does is look good. This may sound crazy, but to me V is like a hot bitch that bores you to death and is kind of ditzy. Like a beautiful car that left a lot to be desired and has bland handling.

That is a big problem for us who don't want to play GTAO.

But forcing us to play that to have all the features is beyond ridicolous.

This is part of the reason why I can't play V that much anymore and I'm now just trying out IV again. V's SP just doesn't feel complete. It feels too incomplete for me to enjoy for a while.

The OP is right

The game could have been amazing if only rockstar avoided to focus on sh*tty online and f*cking dlcs

The priority should have been single player story mode, then the rest

Not to mention the choice of develop it on f*ckin' obsolete consoles

R* is turning into EA. R* should be combined with EA and rename to Electronic Rockstar Arts.

It's not really just a matter of sacrificing graphics to get more gameplay. They likely had issues during development rather than wanting to sacrifice to make the game look better.

What if in 2011 things were going smoothly and Rockstar was anticipating minimal problems only to suddenly run into a massive issue. Perhaps something about the three character system or some coding for some of these mini-games fought other code? In GTA IV there is a glitch where you can call someone on a phone and it starts a stalled car. Why on earth would the phone system be connected to the vehicles in any way? Game coding can be strange and we don't know how complex GTA actually is.

If they did run into problems then the question becomes: How long do you work on these features until you give up and finish what you can? They likely had an internal deadline and different milestones to meet. If they started missing milestones throughout 2012 they might have made some serious changes in order to get the game out by 2013. What if the reason for the big delay was because the game was absolutely broken? What if they did rush the game out the gate in the end because they spent too much time on some great ambitious ideal that they couldn't meet? Of course we say "Delay the game! Delay the game! Make your vision!" but we're not working on it or funding it. It's easier to encourage that kind of thing when not dealing with the business side of things. This might also explain the wait for the PC version. If they stopped working on the PC version in order to finish the 360/PS3 version they would still have to go back and fix the PC version and do optimization for a variety of configurations.

Sometimes I wonder if, in private, the people at Rockstar are just as disappointed with the quality of GTA V as a lot of the players. They clearly had some big ideas that didn't make it and it's always hard to butcher your creation to finish it.

One thing: It doesn't take that long to type out a long post. Are you that terribly skilled that it takes you too long to type up a paragraph? Or are you just dense. Oh wait, you are dense, you're the one who said tl;dr to sivispacem's post in a vehicle thread! Grow up!

To be honest it still shocks me how disappointed I ended up being towards V. I mean I loved it at first, but it's flaws and missed opportunities just started to irritate me. Honestly, this game... just ugh.

But why would you still go through the hustle to do it? Like right now, you're probably going to waste your time arguing with me, become "it don't take that long to reply and start an argument that probably most likely won't end until a moderator shows up 2-3 hours" type of deal, instead of just scrolling down, and posting your opinion? Love it or leave it, simple ideal. No one said you had to be the "hero of the day" to go around thinking it is your job to reply to posts you don't like.

And besides. You took that the wrong way. It was a simple question, I do respect that she took time out of her Thanksgiving day to type all of her opinion. But I asked why she would, when there are plenty of those threads going around. If you actually read it in a non-"fock you" type of way, you'll see it quite clearly.

Sorry forgot something: You should probably look who posted that, it was SouthLand. Not sivispacem.

You don't need to "take time out" to make a post longer than a paragraph, dude, that is what annoyed me about your post. Nobody "takes time out" to post, they just frikkin post and it takes like 5 minutes for me to type up a two paragraph post.

I will never anticipate another GTA. Not to say this game was horrible. But it just wasn't that great. Really, if the cops weren't all cyborg super cops, I might actually like this game a lot. But Rockstar f*cked it up, so I don't care about this game much at all. Bring on WatchDogs. So long, GTA.
