I've never had the cops come after me for doing a gang attack, even when the gang attack was in the merryweather base. and I only have 1 weapon with a silencer that I'll use when I want to stealth kill an npc...

You're lucky, cause I have.

Can you de-equip silencer in-game like the flashlight?

Yes.

I only have it on my Combat Pistol, SMG, and Sniper Rifle. But I bought every attachment for all my weapons.

I've never really cared about the reduced damage from silencers (head-shot = 1-hit), but range effects how soon auto-aim locks on, and that is important.

Silence that sniper so you can wittle away at groups in missions from a distance without being noticed.

I have shot people in the back of the head (bounties of course) while there were cops everywhere and been able to evade any stars at all with a silenced combat pistol

Not a waste of money in general though. It does reduce the distance at which cops and other hostiles hear you - also reduces distance at which players hear you.

This. Firing your weapon will get you a wanted level on its own, because of the noise. A silencer prevents this.

Will you still get a wanted level eventually because you created a stack of bodies? Sure, assuming you're not in the middle of the wilderness. The same way you'll still get a wanted level for shooting cops or blowing up vehicles or stealing a jet. Not sure why anyone expects the silencer to stop you from getting a wanted level for committing crimes in general.

Considering how easy it is to get the police all over you for everything you do, stopping them from showing up just because you're firing a loud weapon is pretty nice. I ended up putting it on every weapon that can take it, because it's so convenient.

Feels good to snipe someone with cops nearby, and not get a wanted level, but the other person gets one after they respawn and try to shoot back.
