Player = Invincible (you cannot shoot him)

How come in some situations I cannot shoot at a player, he seems to be invincible. This happened to me more than once.

I have a lock on him with my sniper but when I press fire, nothing happens. The sniper won't even shoot at him. He can however shoot at me and give me damage and he wasn't in passive mode. I also tried to shoot him with my rifle but as soon as he appears in my crosshair the rifle stops to shoot.

Is this some sort of hack or glitch? Also I threw several bombs his way and nothing happened to him.

He did have a bounty on his head, soon after, he left the session.

It's a glitch. I know that (at least a lot of the time) it prevents them from dealing any damage to you as well (it basically acts like you're in passive mode for them). Maybe there's an exception that allows them to deal damage rarely? No idea.

Usually these guys get in a car and cruise around, that way it's basically impossible to kill them.

you sure he could actually damage you by shooting at you??? or was it the cops shooting at you too?

I'm sure he was giving me the damage because there was no cops there. They arrived when I started throwing bombs at him.

I ran into one yesterday. Mind you he couldnt do any damage to me either. We tried a fistfight, but we couldnt even target each other - we just threw swings in the air. For a moment I thought I was invinsible. Then another guy pulled up and shotgunned me - I wasnt.

The following things are happening:

You are trying to grief him, he is in real passive mode and yes he can run you over&kill you with his car but can't shoot to kill you.

Or he is a hacker.

I suggest not to start being a douche to people in the first place for no reason. If you tried to snipe me for no reason i would have started to grief the hell out of you.

It's a passive mode glitch. It happens on accident sometimes or you can purposely do it. Usually the invincible player can't hurt you but I've seen exceptions.

I have shot a player many times and he didnt die only to one shot me.

I do think connection can play a part in that.

It's a glitch. I will admit to doing this glitch as well.

I like to mind my own business online, I don't really hunt people down and kill them. Also I can't kill player and player can't kill me.

Doing this glitch, you can also see who the arseholes are in your lobby. It's happened to me so much times where I just drive around and people just drive upto you and try and sticky bomb your car then drive off. Funny thing is they don't kill you.

if you both enter a red circle at the same time and trigger a gang attack both players cant kill each other. if one player leaves the area then they can be killed by the player still in the red circle.

if this was out in the open then the other player is just a cheater.

I think it's this!

Thanks for clearing it out man.

So what happens with the sticky bomb thing? Does the car blow up and you just end up sitting on air or something?

or possibly ur character got stuck with passive

I had issues like this where I'm unable to shoot at players but I can shoot at anything else
and they still can shoot me and manage to kill me

what I did was, went to passive mode and then disable it
then everything seems to be back to normal

I dunno if this is different than urs op

Yeah, you can get stuck in passive mode.

My friend had this the other day and I couldn't even shoot him/blow up his car when he was in it.

It's a glitch/bug. No idea how it actually works.

It's intact. You can still be killed by a player ramming your car up against a wall etc.. But as I said, in this glitch you can neither kill or be killed. I only use it seeing as I like to drive around and get on with what I want to do. I do have it off when I'm with friends though. When I'm only I really don't kill people and I leave people be.

Shooting at = griefing

No.

Oh sorry, you haven't heard? On these forums it's okay to make up new meanings for words.

I think the completely unabashed ignorance of basic well-established gaming terminology comes from the fact there are a lot of "gamers" here who barely ever get on their console to begin with, and have never actually played an online game on their PC.

The worst level of griefing they've probably ever experienced is getting teamkilled by some guy when friendly fire was on. They think a "griefer" is determined by how he's interacting with them at any given time, as unbelievably egocentric as that sounds. They define "griefing" as anything that was done to make them upset.

"f*ck I DIED, HE KNOWS I DIDNT WANT TO DIE! WHAT A GRIEFER! Okay he said sorry and stopped making me mad, now he's not a griefer. BUT NOW THERES ANOTHER ONE OVER THERE AIMING A SNIPER RIFLE AT ME!!! GRIIIIIEEEEEFFFFFFEEEEEEERRRRRRR!!!"

As if someone qualifying as a griefer is a switch that gets toggled on and off at their sole discretion, based on their personal gaming preferences.

I can only hope that a truly devastating exploit is discovered that will help educate some of these ignorant pseudo-gamers (who apparently lack any ability to use search engines or common sense) about what the word "griefer" means.

In the meantime, enjoy reading "griefing" being used to mean everything from "cheating" to "trolling" to "hacking" to "ganking" to "camping" to "killing". I've even seen them use the word to describe "people that go into their apartment to avoid dying".

Just make some popcorn and kick back to enjoy the ridiculous hilarity.

This.

Don't know why people get so hurt by being killed in free roam. They don't lose anything, worst case scenario their car gets impounded and they have to claim it back. Big deal! How are you supposed to get the awards for killing using various weapon types if you're not "supposed" to kill other players? I don't go OTT and "grief" the other player for hours on end, just kill them a few times, challenge them to a 1v1, then move on.

i quite like sneaking up on an unsuspecting player and killing them, aye for no reason. sometimes get a classic battle where, i get my ass kicked, i kick their ass or a 50/50 kill fest. usually do a couple hours legit racing, survival and missions then a hour of just hunting people down. i find it entertaining and the game is meant to be. most players seem to fight back, probably enjoying the battle but one or two cry like ive ruined their day, probably find most of them on here..

Another thing I'd like to mention is when a player goes into a game sometimes their toon is still standing on the map and when you shoot them they remain standing there unharmed. This is probably not what you're talking about but it could be. They are invincible and appearing to be idle lol.

I know this is a really late post (2020) but I remembered when I first played GTA Online on Xbox 360, everytime I go into Passive Mode, and when I hop into my car, it says: "Enable Passive Mode" and when I got out of the car (On the 360) it said: "Disable Passive Mode" and of course there was a Rank 8000 griefer, griefing everyone and his K/D Ratio was ridiculous. His K/D Ratio was over 90000. (No lie) Unfortunately I wasn't able to take a picture of him because 1: I didn't have a laptop to snap the picture and 2: I dunno how to snap screenshots on Xbox 360
