vehicle speed and driving time

while in freemode with a buddy we were talking about how long it takes to drive from point A to Point B using the GPS and it didnt seem to change with the vehicle used, so we set out to prove this to ourselves

While in front of beekers garage in the country i set the GPS to my Apt 4.33 miles, he did the same (we both have the same Apt)

He was in a Cheeta, i was in a SandKing ...on screen he pulled of and left me ........but it took us both 2 minute and apprx 10-15 seconds to drive it ....

hell i even tried the using the farm tractor it took the same time to do the drive

HOWEVER we did notice that if we started a fist fight with each other or just shot at each other the driving time did change in the Cheeta he drove it in just under 90 seconds .......i had the farm tractor to took me just over 4 mins

i tried it again in the Sandking it took approx 90 seconds

doing the math (without fighting first)

a car traveling at 60mph will cover 1 mile per min so while in the sandking and cheeta we were driving approx 120mph which isnt out of the ball park in being wrong

But I was doing the same speed on the farm tractor ..........LOL talk about plowing feilds real fast

Fight provoked speeds did increase in both the Cheeta and Sandking to the 160mph range, and did decrease on the farm tractor to around the 30mph range (still fast for a tractor LOL)

Even tho while doing the test (NON Fight) it took the same time driving time, we could not see each other on the road, and our GPS showed distance between us, ...we called out land markers as we passed them......we called out land markers at the same time

Fight Provoked driving changed it up .....i could see him and he could see me, and the distance between us matched closer to what the GPS showed us .....

Does this game change the driving mechanics depending on what is happening . the reason i ask is my Sandking seems to handle a lot differnt in lap and point to point races than it does in freemode, Freemode handling always seems better

This does not make any sense...

Sorry i confused you

my point is that the driving times should be differnt with each vehicle

I'm suprised about the overall times being similar, interested about combat changing things.

It certainly feels the faster the car i'm in, the more traffic disapears/vanishes leaving more clear road for higher speeds.

I call BS. Just yesterday I took a trip from the LSC out in Blaine County to my Apartment back in the city in my Surfer Van, and it took quite a while. I mean, it's gorgeous, but it can't even do burnouts.

I took the same trip nearly 20 minutes later, this time in my Ruiner, and it was much, MUCH faster.

Both trips were without combat.

you are correct it does feel faster or slower depending on the vehicle but in real life time it wast unless we had started a fight

Could try it with a wanted level? :p

when we started a fight one of use had a wanted level when we took off (1 star) so it was easy to evade the cops (maybe i sould have said the fight put a wanted level on one or both of us)

I'm meant BS with your calculations. I meant no personal insult and I'm sorry if you took it that way. But, Aside from firefights in combat having zero effect on overall speed I also think that there's no way a tractor could go that fast. I think there may have been some other factors you're not quite calculating correctly.

i know a car moving at 60mph will travel a mile in 1 minute, so 4.33 miles would take 4 mins and approx 20 seconds in real life

if that same car was moving at 120mph that would equal 2 miles a minute so the same drive of 4.33 miles would take 2 minutes and 10 seconds

hell it should have taken me apprx 20 minutes in real life to drive the tractor LOL .... yes i am from the country and 15mph on a tractor is fast LOL

Hold on, even talking 'real' time, how can the same journey possibly be done as quickly in a tractor as it is in a supercar?

Some time ago I ended up in Blaine County after a mission and decided to drive all the way back to my apartment in a tractor. When I eventually reached the highway, trudgling along like a snail, I decided it was going to take me forever to get back, so I ditched the tractor and jacked a proper car.

It simply isn't possible that a tractor can do the same journey as fast as a supercar.

And nor do I really understand what you mean about 'real' time Vs 'game' time.

However, this thread does pose an interesting question; just how far is it from the southern-most point, to the northern-most?

It takes roughly 6m30s to make this journey, so now the difficult maths comes into play. Let's say you average 60mph.

In real terms, how far could you travel in 6m30s at a speed of 60mph?

So 14 miles at 60mph would take 14 minutes, yes? Which means to cover that same distance in half the time (roughly the time it takes to drive from tip to tip using a normal car) would need an average speed of 120+mph.

So realistically, it terms of relation and scale, tip to tip of the GTA map is about 15 miles.

Game time ...I have read that 40 minutes in real life equals 1 day in the game ....thats why i stated real life time

All i know is how many minutes clicked off on the clock in my living room at home........and it was roughly the same with the only difference being measured in seconds....

Hell i may try that same journey tonight on foot running and see how long it takes me .......

Maybe something was going on with the servers when we tried this........i really dont know.....

but we will do a retest as see what happens ......

I agree the faster cars should get there faster......

You typed that whole there very confusingly.

Are you saying you can drive a tractor or a cheetah from the same point A to point B, taking the same route, and it takes the same amount of time?

Because that is complete nonsense.

It has to be, otherwise it means a tractor can go as fast as a supercar, which we all know they can't - and I'm talking in-game here.

dlow is clearly mistaken or confused... or both.

In fact I'm tempted to get online and try it for myself.

Well I am 52yrs old so getting confused has become more of a fact of life than I ..........uhhhhhh what was I talking about LOL

ok I have tried to re-create.....the driving times listed above

Playing in a friends only or solo session by myself..........I cannot re-create it ......the cheetah blew everything off the road I made the same 4.33 mile journey in it in about a minute and a half

The farm tractor took 18 minutes

But here is where it got weird

Once my friends came online still in a private lobby ......the driving time stayed close to the same (within 10 seconds or so) it did not matter if we were in super cars, muscle cars or the Road Tractor (the farm tractors were not spawning) .....and like before all 3 of us would line up and take off at the same time.........on my screen I saw them take off and leave me sitting......but as we called off land markers we were passing them at the same time or within a couple of seconds

So we tried it in a public lobby ........we could not re- create it in a public lobby

Maybe there is a glitch in private lobbies ....

again I may be old .but I do know how to tell what time it is and still remember how to read a clock

Beertender I'd like another three glasses of tekillya please.

That was just unbearable to read...

All joking aside, there is no way that big ass Sandking is gonna go 160 mph.

Lol this is hilarious. The only possible explanations I have for this is either:

  • OP is high on drugs.
  • OP ran into the bug where your vehicle doesn't reach top speed during the whole session, only console restart or maybe new session fixes it. Which would dramatically lower the top speed of the supercars and the tractor's top speed might have been near that.
