To add to the difficulty... make you try and earn and save a lot of money, and of course try to get people to buy those ridiculous cash card things...

The bottom line is that SP was basically the long tutorial for the online game. They released it two weeks early so everyone would play through it first get used to the systems and prepare for the real game. The prices are high to make your play time longer. They expected it to take weeks for people to fill up garages and such by normal means. The online world is where they will be putting all of thier development efforts into now. I suspect even if they do a gta 6 it will be tied heavily into this existing online game.

 

Of course all the money glitching put a wrench into those plans.

I thought near the beginning they'd said something about it being cheaper online.. I nearly choked when I saw it would cost nearly $50k to upgrade a pistol, thats equivalent to purchasing a modest garage.. now I've been playing a while I quite like the challenge of earning a bit of cash to do up weapons/vehicles rather than having it handed out on a plate.

I actually do enjoy it, i was only curious, though there are some LSC mods that could be a little cheaper

Some things are actually cheaper online. Body armor is the most obvious example.

In the beginning I also felt like things were crazy expensive but now that I'm a higher level it seems pretty balanced.

Body armor is cheaper because it barely prevents any damage. Super heavy armor in multiplayer is about as effective as half of super light armor in single player.
