Vice city critic post

Recommended Posts

Here, could you all post what you like and dislike about Vice City, here's my list...

Likes...

Kent Paul--This character is played perfectly, just as a cockney would, and the cocky attitude, especially when tommy walks off and he shouts..."NUTTER!"

Sound-Track--All the songs in Vice set the scene and make a whole enjoyable experience, cruisin' through Vice city.

Property Sale--Making properties for sale is a superb addition to GTA, gives it a whole new purpose, and it gives you a real sense of "I RUN THIS DAMN CITY!"

Wealth--All through the game you are reminded of how elegant and rich the game is, and how you can become a real player once you have some green

Dislikes...

Love Fist--The scottish accent played is terrible, and too O.T.T. Most of the time i can't understand what they are saying, and i speak face-to-face to a scott very often

Restrictions--You are not allowed to reap the rewards of the game untill you've worked hard to finish it,unlike GTA:3 where everything was available to do at the start, aprt from the islands. Also, Vice teases you, it lets you buy properties, and let your imagination run wild with things that ae possible, only to be dashed when we find out we can't do it

No Gangs--I can see people huddle in groups, but that doesn't make them a gang...they become a gang when they have 'gang wars' and fight over turf and drugs, none of this happens in vice, no gang members fight or tresspass etc, very boring

Driver Memories--Vice City reminds me too much of driver, which i liked at the time, but absolutely detest now, all the sun, sea, glamour of miami is all too much like that game

Now it's your turn to post...

The gangs that I've notcied are the motorcycle gang (I forget the name), the Cubans & Haitians (they always fight), and, of course, the golfers. Yes, the golfers are a gang. I don't know about whetehr or not "The Vercetti Mafia" is considered a gang, or if there are any other, because everywhere I go, I seem to find Haitians trying to kill me. I guess they don't like the idea of me going up onto their roofs with hand grenades and sniper rifles...

i know of 2 gangs for sure, the Haitains and the Cubans... they're always going at it, i'm constantly seeing gang-wars. you have to attack a Haitan base in one of the Humberto missions as well.

gangs will attack your cherry-popper truck if you try selling any "ice-cream" on their turf

DarkPretender

there are other gangs...i just dotn remember...

Somtimes if your really really lucky, ,one small group with attack anotehr small group and then like 40 from each side run from there small groups to help and you get a nice gang war to sit back and watch.  I wish they had like drive bys and stuff, that would be tight!  Also in the mall its funny to see a big group fight.

Its rare to see a huge fight but it has happened to me twice.  I learned not to get myself involved after the second one...

I believe someone did a drive by in an attempt to take me out... I was right outside of the print shop (none of my fellow gangsters were anywhere to be found) and all of a sudden there were bullets coming my way, and it wasn't a pistol because it was more like uzi fire.  I think it might have been a gangster in one of those Voodoo cars.

Hell, I can't even drive through little haiti without getting shot at atleast ten times. Damn Haitians. I have no choice but to do drive-bys whenever I see them, or ram my car through their huddles. It's become a personal war. I think gangs are well done. I just wish your boys would fight more. Like when cops are smacking me around, my guys should open up with the heavy guns...they just talk about each others sister... :sui:

SmurfsAreBackAgain

actually, i agree with gazz. gta3 had the triads and mafia, the diablos and mafia, the yakuza and yardies, the yakuza and cartel, and probably some i forget. there was a gang war everywhere you turn, whereas in vice you got the cubans and haitians. thats all. it just doesn't compare.

while on the subject, i liked liberty city more than vice, it just was better.

but yes vice city is the better game, becuz of  property, which was a genius addition, and motorcycles. not to mention the helicopters, the charcter actually TALKS, you can rob places, better weapons, so overall, vice is slightly better than gta3.

i could spend forever just bombin' round on the bikes!

so thats my best point for this game whereas going around little haiti and havana is just like playing driver 2.I think the whole cuban/haiti thing must've been rushed by R* cos compared to the rest of the game theres nothin goin on.

later dudes , time to play on the bikes

How come you now detest Driver? I think that if Vice City is reminiscent of Driver, then that's A Very Good Thing. Driver was just packed with atmosphere - I always remember just starting it up for a free ride around town without doing missions, and you would sit in the middle of the street with the big V8 burbling away, the sun blazing down onto the desolate, heat-baked concrete, the blue sea and the boats and the big houses...

If VC recreates that atmosphere but with the ability to do what you can do in GTA, then I'm going to be very happy with it. :)
