Found a way to swim out into ocean without dying

Recommended Posts

sleekycnt277

Sorry if that this has already been discovered, but looking at recent posts it doesn't seem like it has.

1. Activate skyfall cheat and invincibility cheat

2. Using skyfall, fly out into the ocean

3. Eventually you will hit the water. As soon as you do, press START and then enter the skyfall cheat again. Pressing start as soon as you hit the water and entering the cheat in the menu is critical to this working.

4. Repeat step two and three, and make sure to enter the invincibility cheat if / when you need it

After about the second or third time the skyfall cheat will no longer work, but it won't matter as you will no longer need it to survive. Now you can activate the fast swim cheat and swim as far as you want and you will not die regardless of having the invincibility cheat activated. No shark, no random 'WASTED'. I swam for 80 minutes yesterday and didn't die.

On another note, does the (very unrealistically portrayed) crushing depth out there disable the invincibility cheat when diving; did you try this? I am curious how deep those parts of the ocean really are and whether the game actually regenerates "open space" or whether there is an ocean floor at some point.

I believe this has been tried and I also believe that the cheat gets turned off. I did this with a trainer (god mode enabled) and I just sank to the bottom of the map. There is nothing there except the shark, which didn't attack me for some reason, but I just got to the bottom of the map. It's super dark and that's it.

Actually, you can dive as deeply as you want without using cheats. I did this while testing the limits of the game but never thought to post about it.

Here's how I did it -- I took the sub to the ocean, got inside near the shore, and climbed back out with the scuba gear on. Since you take off the gear the instant you walk on land, what you have to do is have a helicopter partway in the water just offshore, or spawn one right there while standing on the sub.

Swim to the helicopter and get inside, take off without getting pulled deeper which will kill the chopper, and you will find yourself airborne while wearing the scuba gear inside the chopper.

Now, all you have to do is fly far out over the ocean and drop the chopper into the water. It will sink like a rock and you'll be sitting inside it. The crushing depth only activates inside the sub, so the chopper will just keep going.

If you're far enough out, you will never hit a bottom. I let the chopper sink for like 10 minutes, and the only way to tell you're still sinking is a slight horizontal artifact in the distance that you pass. It eventually gets very dark, but then it stops and stays at the same light level. You can always see light above.

It's pretty spooky listening to the sinking sound through headphones, especially if you do this late at night.

Also, after 10 minutes, I got out of the chopper to see what would happen. I teleported to the middle of a road and Trevor took the scuba gear off.

It was fun but mostly pointless.

This topic got me wondering if the same skyfall technique can be used to travel around in North Yankton beyond the preset limits? Either in the opening mission or in the graveyard mission.

I would try it myself right now but I really have to go to bed. Tomorrow.

Sweet, that's exactly what I meant. Thanks to both of you for testing this out! I myself absolutely did not have the patience to pull through with this. Do you think the walking underwater glitch could be taken to the extreme down there, or would it glitch out?

As Karoi said, he did hit the ocean floor at one point - obviously, it took him a while. That is the reason I stopped exploring this halfway through, it didn't look very promising to me, honestly. Even getting to the limit of the map took much longer than I expected. While the game in most instances has unfortunately not been very immersive for me, there's something about the ocean. I find the sense of isolation eery, concerning both being far out and/or deep down. This of course gets intensified when going beyond the limits.

Is it true that sharks only spawn above a certain depth? The first time I even encountered one was when I was around 90%. Ever since then, I have only encountered two or three more sharks (all in Paleto). So they have been really rare for me. The most recent one I encountered while collecting the submarine parts and it seemed as if it stopped following me around when I descended more. Obviously they lose interest at one point when you are in the submarine, but this particular one seemed to disappear because of me going deeper and deeper.

If this is true, I shall keep it in the back of my head as a getaway attempt, in case one spawns when I'm not protected by a vehicle.

Good thought! It's just a guess, but I see you falling through the map in this case. Remember how in the little fraction of Liberty City that was in GTA:SA we went to "blue hell" when exploiting that piece of map? The places we are not meant to reach probably won't be solid. If they are, we either found cut content... or (hopefully not) ground for future content.

Why hopefully not ground for future content? I would love some kind of dlc where you could fly to north yankton. Maybe get a house there and store some vehicles. Or even do a few missions.

Because I snap when I see developers cutting out content to sell it later on. All the genius games of the 90s and 2000s were fully finished. How come we have an absolute disaster of a game generation now?

I just tried this, and it certainly does work. And in fact, I even discovered something rather unexpected. I crash landed in the sea right around the drop-off, at first, I was in freefall until I landed on the underwater cliff wall. For a while, I was sliding, bumping, and grinding down the side of the underwater cliff until suddenly I came to a point where the cliff looked as though someone cut it's lower levels off with a pair of scissors! Instead of a flat sea bed, the "scissor cut" simply dropped me and the chopper right into apparently a bottomless watery abyss. The cliff wall even appeared as though one can swim right under it, under the "scissor cut," and come up in the underworld of Los Santos!

Yeah, about two weeks ago I did another chopper dive, and happened to pass close enough to that edge to see it pass by. Indeed it's like a 45 degree slope that goes REALLY far down and then, like you said, simply cuts off.

I was surprised how long it took to pass that lip, too. The map goes a lot deeper than I expected, even though it's just a flat repetitive slope by that point.

Actually, there technically is a bottom, which I calculated to be roughly 22,160 feet, or about 4.19 miles, deep. It took me 47 minutes to sink to the bottom in a Buzzard copter. However, the only sign that you have hit bottom is when those white particles in the water suddenly stop rushing upwards and begin a slow and natural drift sideways, for even in broad daylight, there is zero visibility beyond 15,000 feet save for the blue orb of light directly overhead. Also, believe it or not, my calculations with decent rate and time show the "scissors cut" at the bottom of the cliff at around 1,100 feet below the ocean surface.

You never know when that math might come in handy!

been searching this scissor cut "glitch". this is something you can actually do in gta sa. the exactly same thing happen if you drown inside a hydra or helicopter, you'll keep drowning through the ocean floor, and just reappear somewhere in the state. maybe this was a way in that game to keep you from the boringness that swim back to the land from a far point in the ocean would be. dont know why this was put in this game though, maybe it was programmed in the same way.

I don't see it as pointless. There are likely a lot of people out there that are curious as to how deep the drop-off goes, how deep the ocean is beyond the drop-off, not to mention what it is like at the bottom of the drop-off. Especially as quite obviously, common methods don't work as at around 550 feet (or only roughly halfway between the ocean surface and the "scissor's cut" at the bottom of the drop-off, and about a 40th of the way to the bottom of the sea), the submersible implodes, scuba gear malfunctions, the 5-minute invincibility cheat abruptly cuts off, and the player ends up "wasted."

What do you mean by this? Did the explorable boundaries of the map decrease? I've always wondered if something happened to my game when I was trying to see how far I could fly out into the ocean, of course your aircraft usually fails, and I switched characters to keep a shark from killing me, but the engine-fail line in the ocean to the North of the map now is really close to the land, just past the tip of the little islands that stick out Northwest of Paleto Bay. It just seems weird that you can fly pretty far out into the ocean all around the map except the North, where it is a distance you can easily swim to in a minute or two. So is it like this for everyone?

If you have god mode, you sink to the bottom and spawn that the nearest beach

The helicopter thing really works. I did it, just to see how far it would go, and it was... interesting. It turned into blackness extremely quickly. The back of the helicopter hit something a couple of times. It was definitely difficult to tell whether it was sinking or not. Anyway, it's still sinking. Anyone find out if there is actually a bottom of the ocean?

EDIT: I just opened the phone (Playing as Trevor, btw) the frame of the phone is neon blue, as is the selector, and there are some other weird thing happening with it. Still haven't hit bottom yet. Also, for some reason, the phone still has 3-4 bars. Pretty dependable service, I guess. I called several contacts (Downtown Cab Co, 911, Atomic Blimp) and the conversation always ends after the first line of dialogue. Even 911 never gets to where you can select which emergency service. Snapmatic closes instantly as well. The weather thing on the eyefind page show no location.

EDIT 2: Eventually, I couldn't see the helicopter at all. I got out, and was warped to Humane Labs and Research.

Directly off shore near the Del Perro Pier (the pier with the large ferris wheel), the dropoff is much steeper; about an 80 to 85 degree slope starting at a couple hundred feet or so above the scissor cut.

I used this technique I fouind to get really far from the map,

at some point there is an invisible wall/barrier it is a really fast way of doing it...Does this skyfall and invincibilty cheat get you further then the photo mode camera barrier? Edited by Vertighost
