Racing has always been one of my personal favorite things to do in GTA, I could spend hours upon hours doing race after race and it never got boring (same with free mode) in GTA IV.... but GTA V really doesnt have that same feel.

Maybe its because they removed the lobbies, not allowing a choice of track with the option to change at any point. Maybe its because the tracks just arent as good as GTA IV's. Maybe its because I can almost never just jump into a random race (the option for any 'join job' besides mission or playlist is almost always grayed out and cant select it) and then when it DOES allow a join race, most of the times its criminal records. Maybe its because most lobbies of circuit tracks (allowing multiple laps) have it set to only 1 lap because theyre only after RP/cash. Maybe its the addition of slipstream and catchup. I dont know

Catchup can be turned off (which people usually leave on), but slipstream can not - its always there. GTA IV's racing felt like it really came down to real skill. One racer vs. another racer. With catchup and slipstream, it feels more noob-friendly. Not to say the racing is bad, just that it took a giant step backwards

I prefer 5. The cars seem to handle better and don't feel like boats on wheels. The slipstreaming doesn't bother me, since it's a real thing in racing. I just hell hate f*cking catch up. If I see an ON beside it, I'm dipping out of that lobby pretty fast.

Is catch up and slip streaming the same thing? Because I've been in races where it's been on and off, and I see no difference. Slip streaming has always been active though.

no, slipstream is catching the car ahead of you's draft, increasing your speed. catchup reduces the leaders speed, allowing the rest of the cars to catch up

Oh...That is bullsh*t!

I will say this about races though, karma is definitely a thing. The amount of times racers have tried to punt me off the road before smashing into a wall or going off course is amazing.

Racing in GTA5 is:

  • Fun
  • Infuriating
  • Dull

All of these things at different times.

With Catch-up Off, you will not win in an unmodded car. Also If somebody pits you at the start you may as well quit.

WIth Catch-up On, It's an x lap crash fest while every car gets pitted or wrecked due to having rear ends on ice.

Yes it can be fun when some [email protected] tries to pit you and stuffs himself into a wall, but these moments are few in a game time where the loading screens take longer than the race.

When NFS Rivals comes out, I'm dropping this Sh1t like a stone.

4, by a country mile.

- 4´s Vehicle physics piss on 5´s.

- Checkpoints have wider window and you don´t miss them by driving on the other side of the road.

- No retarded arcade options like turbo start or overpowered slipstream.

- More sensitive damage encourages clean and safe driving.

- Same degree of visual damage affect performance of the car much more in GTA 4.

- Motorbikes are not dumb-proof vehicles in 4.

5´s only advantage is the variety of circuits and the content creator. Also let´s give 5 cooler vehicle design and customization. Doesn´t compensate for all the previous.
