The Writing in GTA V

So I had my fun with GTA V it did improve on many aspects like graphics and gameplay

The three main characters are awesome and funny

But in terms of the storyline the game had some flaws in my opinion it had a weak middle the story felt all over the place and the antagonists were also not written well

I also realized that none of the game reviews mentions the writing but the graphics, how good the gameplay is and the advantages of the multiple protagonist concept

Is that not so important in GTA? In GTA IV it certainly was but as we know they lost a bit of the fun there

What do you think?

I'd give it a 7. It was a fun action movie kinda story with some deep characters and some lame characters, but I was entertained and I loved the dialogue.

When you think about it, the story makes pretty much sense in some parts like the FIB not searching Michael who was in a Janitor suit.

What I like to think is that the FIB had Metal detecting devices and they seemed to be mostly relaying on these, thats why I don't see any problem in the Fire Crew way for the Bereu Raid.

For me, the gameplay was great fun and was well executed. However the story was, overall, pretty terrible. To me there didn't seem to be much of a plot. I mean, there were elements of one, but there wasn't really anything that the characters were working toward, there was no goal, no MacGuffin. It was almost as if Rockstar said to themselves, "we don't know what to make this story about, let's just cover it up with some interesting missions." Which, again, they did that well, but the story felt like it was written in a day.

A McGuffin is not required in every plot. GTA V has plenty of story really. If we look at it as Michael's story with supporting role from Franklin and the secondary lead as Trevor, the story is about a man who made mistakes that came back to haunt him. He works to set things right while dealing with his own aging and finding out who he is and what he wants out of life. Trevor is definitely a complicated character if you look beyond the surface of his actions. There's a lot more thought put into it than just a day of writing. It's definitely not perfect, but it's not plotless.

I give it an 8. It's good, nothing out of this world. It deserves a 7 actually, but there some priceless, memorable moments that just gives it an extra point.

9/10

All of the jokes were successful but I just don't think they were as funny as, for example, Vice City in terms of story or IV in terms of media.

I'd give it a 8. The story was weak at parts but the funny ass dialogue bumped up the score.

A cold, hard 7. 8 and 9 are reasonable, but those who vote 10 are just fanboys.

Or maybe they just enjoyed the story more than you did?

Opinions and all that.

I love the consensus on this forum.

TES Oblivion = 9. TES Skyrim = 3. GTA IV = 9, GTA V = 3. TES Morrowind = 11. Freelancer = 12, X games = 12...... Out of 10... All my own opinion. I'll still bet a pound to a pinch of sh*t that most don't know anything about X, let alone Freelancer, without using a search device or a family member...

Gamer...You don't know the meaning of the word.

I'd give it an 8 for dialogue because of some funny scenes where the dialogue was superb but overuse of "motherf*cker" got tedious.

For story I'd give it a 4. Felt very rushed and with no main antagonist which was someone you really hated, it just was very flat.

I gave it four cause all of the plot holes...

Seriously how did Trevor knew that was Michael doing that jewelry store heist?

I would give it a solid 8. The story was mostly flawless, though some spots were thinner than others. It wasn't the greatest storytelling ever so it doesn't get a perfect 10, though Rockstar still did a stupendous job and deserve at least a 7.

Indeed.

I'd say a 7. Probably a 6 but as said, bits and pieces made it a bit better.

The story was pretty horrible. If I recall right, GTA IV made more sense . The missions in FIVE were fantastic though.

the plot may not be that good but the dialogues are the funniest and most interesting of the series and the actors are top notch.

Six for me. Great dialogue and everything was there and established well, but it all just fell so flat so quickly.

I'll give it an 8, but it's more like a 7.5 to me. It's the HD era games that makes me laugh more, and some dialogues are brilliant. BUT, on the other hand, there are some lines that were HORRIBLE (I feel pain every time i hear "you're ruining my yoga"...it feels so out of place in a GTA game).

Plus, some moments are akwards at best, like when Trevor appears at Michael's house (and you can feel the tension in that moment), and then Fabien first and the whole Tracy sub-plot ruined it.

So, why a 7.5/8? Because it's a 4 or a 5 in Hollywood standards, but in a GTA game an akward, unbalanced script is the norm since at least GTA III. Even the "oscar worthy" GTA IV storyline was full of plot holes and bad dialogues (for a movie), but they are just part of a bigger experience, and they serve the purpose to make the story goes and entertain the player. It's classic GTA stuff.

If you don't know how Trevor knew that was Michael, you did not pay much attention to the story at all.

I would give it a 7. The dialogue between Michael and Trevor was almost brilliant, Dave was an interesting character, along with Lamar's studily hilarious lines. But almost every other character (*cough*cough* Franklin) was sometimes boring.

As far as I love GTA V, on the storyline, I have to give it a 6. It is good but I feel like it took up the wrong way.
