Why did they think it a good idea unlock mods through race wins?

Totally agree with OP. I would imagine that most races are done just to trade wins to unlock things. It's a pain in the butt and does not fulfill the spirit of having races.

I understand how it may seem like a bad idea but R* wanted people to try out the activities and races they had available. They needed something to make people do races rather than just reaching a certain level which is why some mods you need to be a certain level to unlock.

I play plenty of non-custom races....probably at least half of them. You have to have a low level host that doesn't have a fully upgraded Adder, then they'll play more fair. I have yet to trade race wins and have a terrible race record (like 40:170 or something stupid), yet have all but one of the engine mods unlocked.

 

Just tell him to keep trying. Host his own races with customs off, people will join. Or cheat and complain about needing to cheat.

As usual with most video games these days, you're forced to do a bunch of nonsense that you don't want to do in order to actually do the things that you would enjoy. It's no longer about providing an overall enjoyable experience, but keeping you playing long enough in hopes of you spending more money on their current/future products.

 

I gave up on trying to upgrade my Bison long ago and ended up getting rid of it so that I could glitch a Carbonizzare and Coquette off of that one website. Sucks, but if this is the way that R* wants it to be, then fine, it'll be this way.

Yes, you need 50 wins to unlock all upgrades. I agree it's a bad idea, I couldn't find like you fair hosts, everyone had fully or semi upgraded at least.

I really like the system. And I see customs off all the time, even among 100+ peeps. More competitive that way. If you can't find a lobby like that, then host one on your own.

I think if you win races with any class of cars above the class you want your stuff for, it also unlocks them.

I was surprised that I had full unlocks on my sedan even though I've only raced one or two sedan races.

The final upgrades of Engine, Breaks, Transmission, etc should require some race wins to unlock, but not 50. Maybe 3 or 4.

 

Turbo should require 1 win.

 

Lower level engine, breaks and transmission upgrades should just require race participation.

 

Cosmetic things should be the items that require lots of wins.

I unlocked all my parts pretty easily. If you feel the need to boost wins to max out your vehicles ASAP, then go for it. It's not Rockstar's fault though, you can simply not play races with custom cars turned on until you're confident in your vehicles. If there's a design flaw here, it's that you can cheat the system by win boosting with someone else in the first place.

Step 3. Start race when 1 person joins. 50/50 chance of winning.

unlocks are only fun if you unlock something awesome. having to wait to be level 100 just to unlock the color you like on a shirt is crazy. im not even going into how much they want to charge for a simple color change.

 

all this current system does is reward boosters and punish legit players. hey lets trade wins and head shots to unlock everything that isn't level restricted.

It's 44 wins for all the performance upgrades. It's not forever it's two hours.

 

I do agree with it being pointless. Anything but the top upgrade is a waste of money since a few more wins lets you upgrade.

 

I can't think of a better way though. If it was unlocked at level even more high levels would get kicked from races. More expensive and you'd get more grinding and exploiting.

It says that but it doesn't work that way. You don't have to win that many with every class. It's also not that hard to get race wins unless you absolutely suck at driving in this game. I would imagine for a person new to the series or new to console gaming in general it could seem very difficult though. But after racing enough in this game you start to see that a lot of it is just luck. Hanging back and letting everyone crash out at the first corner and then drive past for the win has worked for me on many occasions.
