Idea: Apartment Security + Theft

I had an idea of a different kind of "Heist" than people would expect. Let's explain this properly.

The Idea:

How about create a way to organize apartment security and also in the same way, stealing of stuff you find in the specific in-game property? You could not do it all the time however, but it would be good money.

About apartment security:

To make it more complex to steal stuff, you could purchase stuff such as:

  • Locks (weaker locks can be shot with a powerful gun like shotgun or MG, stronger ones require lockpicking)
  • Laser alarms (trip into one and you receive an instant 3-star Wanted level, without the ability to call Lester instantly. The owner of the apartment would also get a notification of this.)
  • Adding to above, the owner of the property/apartment would also get notified when a theft was in progress.
  • Buy watch dogs (no pun intended) and guards. Better dogs/guards cost more, with the best guards being Juggernaut ones.
  • Security camera feed visible in your phone, to see how the thieves are progressing in the theft.
  • If managing to get on the scene when the people are escaping, take a picture of the license number via Snapmatic. This would always tag the owner always 2-star Wanted until he/she changed vehicle or started going on foot. This would be easier if you had a friend driving, meaning you could easily take a picture.
  • If the thief stole e.g. a radio, you'd not be able to listen to radio until you buy another one or received one from Insurance Company.

About thieving:

Theft would be a good way of making money, but it would also easily make enemies.

  • Most stuff found in the apartment could be stolen. This includes the TV, radio, other electrical stuff, clothes, furniture, plus most small stuff etc. You could also steal a personal vehicle, but it would allow the victim to track the guy(s) driving it w/ mini-map and normal map... Off the Radar would work though.
  • You could assign a 1-4 guy squad for it. All profit from it would be split evenly.
  • You could assign Merryweather bodyguards to keep you safe during the heist.
  • The more expensive apartment, the better the profit.
  • If you went underground, sure, it would remove the police from your tail easily, but don't forget the angry victim coming after you with a rage fiery enough which could melt glaciers.
  • You can't call Lester to remove the 2-3 Star Wanted level you received from the heist. Any added Wanted levels from e.g. killing cops could be removed with the call though, so it'd remain in 2-3 until you manage to escape from them by hiding or however you want to escape from police.
  • You (plus the other guys participating in the heist, if there were any) receive automatic Bounty worth a randomized amount of money (from 1k-9k).

  • Laser alarms (trip into one and you receive an instant 3-star Wanted level, without the ability to call Lester instantly. The owner of the apartment would also get a notification of this.) Cops cant enter, what would be the point?
  • Adding to above, the owner of the property/apartment would also get notified when a theft was in progress. He should be able to come back and defend his property.
  • Buy watch dogs (no pun intended) and guards. Better dogs/guards cost more, with the best guards being Juggernaut ones. Defense should be up to the owner and his crew/friends.
  • Security camera feed visible in your phone, to see how the thieves are progressing in the theft. Adds more use to the CCTV idea.
  • If managing to get on the scene when the people are escaping, take a picture of the license number via Snapmatic. This would always tag the owner always 2-star Wanted until he/she changed vehicle or started going on foot. This would be easier if you had a friend driving, meaning you could easily take a picture. Theres a line when you go from neat feature to burden task and realism overdrive. This is that line. If they steal it, they should have to deliver it to a far away point and for everything they stole, they'd get paid. AKA kinda like APB's ram-raid system.
  • If the thief stole e.g. a radio, you'd not be able to listen to radio until you buy another one. TBH, only if sh*t was cheap. I'm not spending 5K on a new TV every day because people robbed me. This might just fall in line with the idea of too much realism.

Off the Radar would work though. A. You can kick people from your vehicle if you're not in it. B. No because if you couldnt kick them out, then it'd be a new form of greefing.
  • You could assign a 1-4 guy squad for it. All profit from it would be split evenly. Just should be a heist you can plan out that doesn't take you to a new lobby or anything. Or not even a heist, maybe it could be a more free roam type crime like holding up stores. Maybe when you walk to a door to an apartment, it'll list who owns apartments there and an option [break In] X's Apartment
  • You could assign Merryweather bodyguards to keep you safe during the heist. Just call merryweather like normal, nothing new necessary.
  • The more expensive apartment, the better the profit. Obviously, a guy with a 400K apartment is gonna have a nicer TV than a bum smoking weed in his shack.
  • If you went underground, sure, it would remove the police from your tail easily, but don't forget the angry victim coming after you with a rage fiery enough which could melt glaciers. This is tactic idea, and police would be pointless in the first place.
  • You can't call Lester to remove the 2-3 Star Wanted level you received from the heist. Any added Wanted levels from e.g. killing cops could be removed with the call though, so it'd remain in 2-3 until you manage to escape from them by hiding or however you want to escape from police. Shouldn't be any cops in the first place.
  • You (plus the other guys participating in the heist, if there were any) receive automatic Bounty worth a randomized amount of money (from 1k-9k). That should be the owners decision. If he has the funds, he should be able to put bounties on them. It should drop an item or items that anyone can pick up and if the owner does and goes back to his apartment, he stops the robbery and his apartment is on a robbery cool down (to avoid grief teams). However if anyone else picks up the item and makes it to the place far from his apartment, it's sold and they cash in for the job.

But then it isn't my safe house anymore.... I brought it to feel safe and to have somewhere to spawn without the crazies coming to get me. :(

In your vision can anyone's apartment can be robbed at anytime?

Good points.

As I originally meant it to be in Free Roam, maybe it should be a "Mission" instead? This way you'd be able to agree/disagree whether you want excitement in your life.

But then it isn't my safe house anymore.... I brought it to feel safe and to have somewhere to spawn without the crazies coming to get me. :(

In your vision can anyone's apartment can be robbed at anytime?

I forgot to say that there would be a limit in it. It would be like 1 in-game day/week/month/year/decade/millenium, I don't know. But the idea in the OP was a mere sketch, which is why any and all feedback is appreciated.

In fact, the idea of it being a "Mission" or such (what I said to the other person in this post) would be a better idea. But you should be able to purchase apartment safety stuff if you were the person being robbed and things to help you rob stuff if you were the robber in free roam though, if there was a Heist challenge given.

Well I think it would be cool as a free roam minigame and more have to be. I mean, lets say you want to rob Bob's house. You get your crew, but if it's a mission, you have to invite everyone, including Bob. Bob has to let you rob him. Bob's not going to let you rob him blind. And that would take out the spontaneous aspect.

You should take a risk when you're in a game. If you don't want to be killed, go to private, turn on passive, or don't play GTA. The game has been based on the idea that people can kill each other and cops are too incompetent to really catch people for murders so if someone pisses you off, kill them. Apartments shouldn't be a safe haven for you to jack off to pixels and not fear. I'm not safe in my own home IRL, so why should a game based on extraordinarly high crime rates allow you to be safe in your home?

Heard an opp got killed, watch me do my dance.

Got a pocket full of bills, watch me do my dance.

I like the concept of this idea. For those against the idea of a heist against your safe house... how about allowing for other real estate we can purchase that is then target-able? Like a store, restaurant, or 'additional/vacation home'...

Interesting idea, but I don't think it works for apartments IMO.

It just sounds way too easy for the 'robbers'. A guard dog and a passcode lock? Both can be silenced in minutes. What if the user is on the opposite side of the map? No way he's getting back in time to defend. And a 2-3 star is so easy to disappear from.

I don't think the cars idea works either because (assuming you play legitimately) it can take 1-2 weeks to save up for an Entity, and that can be robbed in mere minutes? $750k gone for getting by a guard dog and a passcode? And no chance to defend because I was up north?

Personally, I think it'd work better if we had houses, as then we could hire security guards to stand guard (similar to that Martin mission where he had to kill and photograph the person and the house was swarming with guards). That makes it more challenging, and the owner could upgrade their security (and pay daily charges as they do with the mechanic, etc.) It also gives them more time to get back to the house.

Also, there would need to be limited lives like in missions. Maybe even just one life/attempt.

Ideally, the robbers should also have something to lose, otherwise people would be competing to robbing houses. I know I would if it were that easy.

I like this idea. And you don't lose anything aside from your daily (or weekly) earnings from the business. Maybe the business value goes down with every robbery so that if you wish to sell it, it's worth less. If it rarely successfully gets robbed, it actually appreciates and is worth more.
