This is actually another good question, if you haven't paid your mechanic he might disappear I guess lol, had a friend spend all his money to see what would happen if he didn't pay utilities and his power went out in his apartment.

I was once doing a Trevor mission and after I got done I didn't have a car so I had to call for the mechanic and he was not in my phone so I went to the start menu and tried to request my car and the game said I did not have a car. I'm pretty sure I got that bug that the game deletes your garage but fortunately I dashboarded it before it had a chance to save and when I restarted the game on my cars were in the garage the way they were supposed to be.

this happened to me last night on after the 1-4 player trevor mission.

 

the mechanic contact was still gone when i played today

my garage was fine

no mechanic contact

 

eventually it came back

i missed him so
