GTA III is a much better game than GTA V

Recommended Posts

GTA III and Vice City free some kind of nobility, they are classics among video games, just like a Tarantino or Scorsese movies are in cinema. You can't expect such a fresh game like GTA V to match this up.

I agree these games are awesome classics and such it's great to play them. The thing is if you think any of these is better than V then you are either stuck in the past and can't let go or just a blind person. And yes before you ask I am aware of such a thing as an "opinion".

It is impossible to even compare 3D era to HD let alone 3 to V.

GTA went on completely new level with HD era. And i`m not talking about technical improvements only but the whole plots and character developing. Right with IV in 2008, R* started to giving more depth to protagonists`s characteristics. You could indentify with HD era protagonists 100x times more easily than you could with cartoonish, semi-personality, cliche 3D protagonists.

In old series, the main characters were too shallow and full of cliches. While HD characters have some actual human characteristics, they put cliches aside and they made them like they were some actual personalities from some movie or real life.

So it is really impossible to compare those two levels of GTA games. They have nothing incomon, neither 1 single aspect.

So whoever say such thing like in this title must be completely clouded by nostalgia. Deep feelings inside you are overwelmed with nostalgia so you are saying something completely else from what you actually do.

I know because i`ve been there. I started with SA, it was my first GTA game so i completely fell inlove with. And even after IV came out i was still like; "SA is the best, there is no match for it". And i was talking that while playing IV like crazy and not giving a sh*t about SA anymore.

Thus we can ignore your immature posts then.

Right with IV in 2008, R* started to giving more depth to protagonists`s characteristics. You could indentify with HD era protagonists 100x times more easily than you could with cartoonish, semi-personality, cliche 3D protagonists.

To be fair, though, some of the characters did have some cliches tacked onto them, such as Little Jacob's rasta thing and his thickass accent. He sorta reminds me of King Courtney from III, as far as the voice goes and all. Then you've got Jimmy from GTA 5, the lazy, pot smoking slacker who does nothing but mope around and play video games. And even then, I don't know if those are cliches to the T. But even then, the HD era doesn't seem to go too overboard like the 3D era. Things seemed a lot more grounded now in the HD era, sort of.

Thus we can ignore your immature posts then.

Shame you're discounting his entire statement just because he started with SA. It was a pretty good one too.

@Bucky914, if something, your reply is immature. I`ve been introduced to GTA SA randomly. I didn`t even play games before that. In 2005 i saw my friend playing it and it was something new to me. Before that i only knew old NES and SEGA consoles so when i saw a 3D game where you can steal a cars and making rampages it was apealing to me.

Later on i`ve became a huge fan of all GTA series (except for GTA 3). Everyone has started with a particular game, what`s so strange about that?

And you`ve clearly missed my point.

@universetwisters, you`re right about that altough i meant the main protagonists mainly. Yes, some side characters were still full of cliches. But they did a huge improvement with main protagonists.

I think you mean "If anything," not "if something."

You directly contradict your statement that you did not play games before San Andreas when you claimed to play NES and Genesis games.

Grand Theft Auto 3 set the standard for the entire series and influenced a genre of gaming in the same way Mario influenced platformers. Even in 2014, it has relevant features, tight controls, a well crafted story line, and a unique, dark atmosphere. I'm not saying you have to like it, but I disregard your opinion as valid simply because you obviously have an ADD complex where someone shows you something new and shiny which makes you forget what you enjoyed in the first place. You claim that after playing IV, you didn't like SA as much. It displays a close minded personality flaw.

GTA 3 happens to be my favorite of the series, but I play GTA V more than any other video game at this time. Is V my favorite game? No. Does my love for V detract from my appreciation and memories from the previous games? No.

Jesus some people are slow to catch up. You are making a whole doctor disertation of my simple post.

Or you just enjoy stiring sh*t up?

Let me explain to you again;

I`ve started with SA, it was my 1.st 3D game, before that i`ve only played the old NES games which had nothing incomon with GTA.

So i`ve felt inlove with SA and i swore this is the best game ever..untill i got IV. Then i loved IV. And i`ve stop playing SA because i got bored of it. Then V came out and i loved V more than IV which was my best GTA series UNTILL V came out.

So, the point is you get bored of the old games no matter how you loved them once. I wont forget how i loved SA but today i`m bored out of it and of course i wont play it if i have V.

Just like you, you say 3 was your best but yet you wont play it anymore (at least not as much as you did) and you play V. Because you are probably bored the sh*t out of 3 after playing it for years and years. And because those old games look like sh*t today. They are OUTDATED and you/me/we are BORED of it because we spent hundreds or even thousandfs of hours playing it..

My point was that people are saying something else from what they actually feel and do. For instance, they say 3 is better than V (btw it`s a good joke) but yet they don`t even touch 3 these days and they play V like crazy. Even if they say they hate it.

This is something completely normal to play updated current games but not be a f*cking hypocrites by saying something what it is completely reverse from what you actually feel and do.

I hope you got it now.

I think because English is not your first language that you have difficulty comprehending my post. I did not say that I no longer play GTA III. I play III all the time. It's one of my favorite games.

Your logic that the new generations are better than the old is the same argument sheeple continue to make every day. I suppose new novels are better than old novel? New movies better than old movies? Yeah, I tend to think people who believe that possess flawed logic and are low on intelligence.

That's debatable. While technologies used to make movies, for example, are much better than they were many years ago, it's a matter of opinion as to whether or not a movie made nowadays is better than one made in the 1950s or whatever. There's no such thing as a right or wrong opinion.

Oh i`m sorry if my english isn`t good enough for you but i think it is just fine for a guy from some southeastern Europian armpit.

And i understand your post just fine, it is you who seem to have problems with understanding my simple post. Talking about inteligence.

Let me ask you one thing, why do people such as yourself and other devoted V haters even play V or other latest titles if the old ones are such masterpieces? Can you answer that? Why don`t you stick with your old GTA titles then?

I didn`t say new is better just because it`s new but games and consoles are runing within time and so do we, the gamers. Otherwise we would just stick with the old sega and nintendo consoles forever, still playing sonic on 30 year old CRT TV.

Why the hell are we even buying new plasma TVs, new touch phones, PS4, new PC`s etc if the old things are better?

That`s the hypocricy i was writing about. And i never sad that some thing is better just because it is new but it follows our current standars. Watching a 40 years old classic movie is a completely diferent thing from playing an outdated game on 15 years old console so please don`t mix apples with pears.

I can easily enjoy some old western movie, even more than many modern movies but i can`t enjoy playing 15 year old game on 25 years old TV and speaking through 15 years old cellphone if you catch my meaning..

1. You can't even spell intelligence.

2. You've asked me more than one question in this post.

3. I'm not a V hater. I simply do not believe it is better than previous GTA titles simply based on it being the newer version. I love V and never said otherwise.

4. The gaming industry also sells old titles. The used game market is huge. Old SNES carts like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound sell for as much or more than new games. Things like the Nintendo Virtual Console prove that people still love the old games. If new titles like GTA V made old games defunct, then people would not spend so much money on old games.

5. Electronic devices have nothing to do with content in terms of story telling and experience. They do not even belong in this discussion.

6. Watching a classic film is every bit like playing a classic game.

7. People still buy old cellphones. They still buy old televisions. I still own and purchase vinyl records. Some people like old things. No one said you had to.

Sure, when we have nothing interesting to reply then we pick on grammar, right? Seen it before.

This isn`t grammar lesson forum, this is an INTERNATIONAL gaming forum with 50% of the people whos first language isn`t english so stop being childish.

And yes, electronic devices have alot to do with content. More then you could think. Yes, content is very important but it doesn`t mean sh*t if we don`t watch/listen/play that content on current tech devices. I`ll repeat myself again and ask you why have you bough latest gen console or PC if you could just still play old SEGA or NES systems? It`s content that is important not devices, right? Why? Oh i know because of current electronic devices. There you go you see? Oh you bought the old TV`s but i bet you don`t play your games on that TV`s do you?

You know what, nothing personal because i don`t even know you but boy do i hate those hypocrites who keep bashing on new things and praising the old but yet they are acting completely the same if not worse than the most devoted tech freaks..

I agree that GTAV is technically better. But I also do not think GTA3 compares at all. Great game, very fun, but it just doesnt have enough things in it. I think GTA SA was the most fun Ive had, but I think its dumb to say GTAV isnt technically better.

Nah nah nah Gta 6

GTA V has little replay value

Even though it has more side missions and quests than any other GTA. such as Spaceship parts and other strangers and freaks missions, and lets not forget the mission gold medals.

GTA III was amazing when it came out. It's even still fun to play now. But saying it's better than GTA V... I just can't agree with that.

I agree with him not agreeing.

Edited by TalkingPear

I just beat GTA 3 for the first time. I had tried to get into it on numerous occasions but always got bored.

TBH I think GTA 3 is the most overrated game of the series, with only SA being worse. There is no map. The weather is always dark and rainy. The radio is boring. The city is metallic grey and miserable. There is too much traffic. The missions aren't all that fun. The plot is just a monkey say monkey do, with uninteresting characters. There is nothing to do with your money and there is nothing to explore, really. Oh and New Yorkers.

Liberty City Stories I thought was superior even if the city itself is still grey and dull.

Edit:

here's more things I can complain about:

The police are everywhere. There's like 2 on every street.

The bribes are all in inconvenient places

Pedestrians seem to all be wanting to claim life insurance BECAUSE THEY KEEP JUMPING IN FRONT OF MY CAR!

The blips on the radar are unuseful because there is no map and it doesn't tell you if the interest is above or below altitude.

The game seems short.

NY is a bitch to navigate. I really hate the bridges and getting onto the things.

That mission where you had to take a guy to the airport using the underpass WHY? Who thought that would be a good idea?

There were certain points where I didnt know what I needed to do next. The final mission I kept shooting the helicopter when you needed to get on the roof to get the rocket launcher. In Grand Theft Auto I went to the coloured blip first and wondered what the hell to do.

Cars dont indicate and will always switch lanes.

No motor bikes

Cant dump weapons like you can in VC using the metal detectors

There's a lack of shoot outs.

Nah nah nah Gta 6

Edit:

here's more things I can complain about: That I will reply to in my fancy bold red text.

The police are everywhere. There's like 2 on every street. you can just lose the cops by just driving away.

The bribes are all in inconvenient places If you know where they are, Use them if the police are annoying you, thats another way of fixing your police problem.

Pedestrians seem to all be wanting to claim life insurance BECAUSE THEY KEEP JUMPING IN FRONT OF MY CAR! Killing in a GTA game? WHUUUT?

The blips on the radar are unuseful because there is no map and it doesn't tell you if the interest is above or below altitude. I agree with this but just look up a map on the internet and find them

The game seems short. 73 missions isn't short, but the missions are short though.

NY is a bitch to navigate. I really hate the bridges and getting onto the things. It's called "getting used to the map", and theres like 2 bridges in the whole game.

No motor bikes Give them a break, this was R*'s first free roam in 3D, they even said at the time they had difficultly coding the bikes.

Cant dump weapons like you can in VC using the metal detectors There's these things called "WASTED and BUSTED"

What I meant by the pedestrians jumping in front of my car is exactly that. They literally jump in front of your car.

The police are annoying because if you scratch their car or you want o jack one, guess who's there? Its annoying.

The bribes in VC were all put in logical places. In GTA 3 they seem to be all in extremely narrow areas, which are more of a pain to get to than are worth.

Not having a map was a big inconvenience for me and yes I did look up the internet for it but that's a downer. I also dont want to have to memorize the map, I really dont.

Wasted and Busted lose all your weapons. The metal detector trick is to allow you to chose which weapons you want to dump (mainly melee), to make cycling through weapons easier.

  • 3 months later...

For the times.. absolutely. GTA V had countless problems at launch and wasn't 'fresh' like III as we'd had numerous GTA games beforehand. III was revolutionary, V was not as it lacked too many features it should've had.

Edited by Ambient_
  • 4 weeks later...

lets not forget the mission gold medals.

Arguably one of the worst features to have been introduced to the series. In TBoGT it basically meant that you had to skip\miss most of the interesting mission dialogue because you had to hurry the f*ck up and do everything. I'm not sure if they corrected for that in V since I don't and won't ever care about gold completion (except for the flying school stuff). Why is it bad? Well, it encourages the player to do the mission a certain way whereas GTA has always been about choice, even in missions (limited but there was some choice most of the time). Screw rushing to your destination and doing whatever crap they want me to do. I want to do it my way and it sucks because the game will always tease you with these gold medals.

To be on topic, I think each GTA game is enjoyable in its own way. My initial reaction to V was pretty overwhelming and it is probably my favorite game but there are still some thing about IV I like better. Maybe it is partly due to the hype that IV had all those years ago. I was looking forward to the game so much and only got to play it years later. The transition from SA to IV was more radical and that had a lasting effect on me that is still present today. V was pretty innovative too but the newness of it quickly wore off.

III is still one of my favorites mostly for evoking feelings of nostalgia. It was the first realistic open world game that I played and the atmosphere of the game is immersive in its own way.
