Am I at risk of being an alcoholic?

I drink a glass of whisky or rum on a daily basis as of latetly and fear to become an alcoholic.

It's only on evenings to feel loose and help me sleep, but some times it's more than a glass, especially on weekends.

Is it safe, or should I give it a rest. I like it, I am a smoker which is already bad, but cut off weed for good.

Hell, I wan't to quit smoking if it was that easy, but I like partys, which makes it harder, easy drunk girls, weed, cigaretttes everywhere.

If you're a minor stay off this topic and go back to bible lessons, seriously.

Need some advice, thanks.

If you don't get really drunk too often you are probably fine.

How much more do you have on the weekends + parties? If you think you're feeling adverse effects from alcohol then you should probably try and pack it in.

It's easier said than done, last time I went cold turkey I had terrible insomnia which made me the most irritable bastard ever and eventually I caved in after two weeks. I've started to cut down on my intake now but it remains to be seen how that works out.

It's all about moderation, if you're not getting absolutely wasted constantly and don't feel the need to drink on a nightly basis then you're not an alcoholic. If it feels like you can't go a night or two without a drink then you need to stop before the problem gets bigger and bigger.

From what it sounds like, you don't have anything to worry about. Moderation is good though, so maybe see if you can cut back to having drinks one or two nights a week excluding weekends.

I definitely hear you that a glass of whiskey can help get you to sleep, but maybe adjusting your intake of other things (or doing exercise later in the evening) might help you be more tired when you need to be.

For the best it might be best to skip some of those week days, you really don't want to get yourself into a situation where mentally you feel you need to have a drink to be able to go to sleep properly or to deal with a problem.

There are things which can put you to sleep other than alcohol. Like taking some sleeping pills or taking a bath, or taking your penis and rubbing it until stuff comes out of it. Seriously masturbation can make you sleepy. You ever noticed how old people are always sleepy? And how they like to keep a lot of plastic coverings on furniture...

You ever noticed that? Mhmm. They all pretty much grew up in filth and squalor, you can't tell me they care about cleanliness that much. So if it's not to stop gramps getting Battenberg crumbs down the sofa, then what's all that plastic for?

I'll tell you right now they're all filthy perverts who do nothing but masturbate and copulate from dusk till dawn with a break in the middle for Countdown. And look how tired they always are. Masturbation will put you to sleep, it works for the elderly and it can work for you.

Try to change it up a bit, one night a glass of whiskey, the other night a glass of red wine, as they say it keeps the doctor away. If you really want to test yourself, try to go a few days without alcohol. If you can't make it without 'grabbing the bottle', you might have a problem. But I would be surprised if you would. It sounds like you're just a recreational drinker, like most. There is nothing wrong with that, if anything it's a positive.

Try to go a few evenings without alcohol. If you find you can't and are compelled to go get yourself some alcohol to ease the withdrawal symptoms, then it has become a problem.

Thanks guys, I think I'll cut it off for a while. It's not that I really need it to sleep or anything, though it helps.

I'm fit, exercise regularly so all good. As for masturbating, it helps, but getting some real action works wonders, I sleep like a baby afterwards.

Thanks again, I was worried because I had an uncle who was an alcoholic and thought it cuold be a family thing.

I'll better stay clean and drink only socially and with moderation. Kinda tough having a pot head and heavy drinker as friends, better cut ties with those sucker even though they are a funny bunch.

Alcoholism is definitely hereditary, but that doesn't mean you can sink into the trap. I definitely have and have had family members fall into to alcohol and substance abuse in my family, and it's a constant worry for me.

As for your friends - see how they react if you're cutting back - if they're supportive then they're for sure your friends. If they get upset and try to pressure you to use, then drop their asses on the curb.

Good luck, man.

It's not really a good idea to have a glass every night. You'd be better off drinking on the weekends. Because by having it every night, you're developing a taste for the drink, and eventually you'll become more immune to the effects, soon the one glass you enjoy won't give you the same effect and you'll go for 2 glasses, and even more on weekends. I know alcohol is safe in moderation, but spirits like whisky and rum are very strong, a glass of wine a day is more understandable, it' weaker and easier to stomach.

If you drink whisky everyday, be careful because if you make it into a habit you may start to become an alcoholic.

I got absolutely trashed on a 12 pack of cider the other night and when I woke up the next day, not only did I have a bad hangover (to be expected), something entirely new happened. I felt like I had spent the previous day in the weight room or played a full day's cricket match or something - Every muscle in my body was aching, stiff, and painful. Like the type of feeling where if you flex a calf muscle its agonizing, and it's painful to sit down or get up from a toilet. Literally like you have been hit by a truck.

I've been trashed many times in my life, this has never happened before. Is it the cider or something ? Can anyone explain this? I normally don't drink cider.

I AM SORRY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO, BUT MY WEBCAM IS ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH.

Could be a large number of things, that it was cider makes little difference.

You could simply be getting old, you're body gets worse at processing alcohol as you get older.

Or perhaps your body was already lacking vitamins or was simply fatigued and drinking put it over the edge.

Or it's a combination.

Just the thought of drinking cider makes me want to puke, not mention the idea of getting trashed with that thing. It's the worst drink imo. No wonder it messed you up.

A few tips, never drink with an empty stomach, eat some light food, a salad sanwich or just plain bread, drink fresh water and take an aspirin or two before you sleep. Oh and if you have to, let it flow, vomit. If you can still walk, do it a bit before going to sleep.

It was a dry cider if that makes it any better.

It could be what Finn said, maybe I had poor nutrition that day. It was definitely a one of a kind experience and i'm not by any means an "occasional" drinker. I'm not nightly or anything but I generally go fairly hard once a week or so.

you know your an alcoholic when an alcoholic calls you an alcoholic, dont drink 2 days and see if you get stressed/frustrated if yes then you can decide quite now or keep drinking till it gets harder to quite. If no problem in 2 days you can keep drinking in the pace you doing now.
