I keep getting dumped in a session on my own, if I hop a few times I can sometimes find one with lots of others. But when I try to play a mission, it only gives me the option to play missions the other options are shaded, and when I do it dumps me on my own, always as the host, and then it won't let others join. I have tried from my phone and still the same problem.

Up until a few days ago everything was fine. I haven't changed anything, no setting or internet, so why the f*** won't it let me play!

I play on a Playstation 3 and every time I joined an online game there was nobody on. The reason there was no one on was because my router/modem's NAT settings were to strict. I had what is called, "NAT Type 3". NAT type 3 enables your router/modem to run over the top security to the point where it dramatically effects your gaming and internet experience in negative ways, as just about everything is blocked because it, "may" be considered, "risky".

Today I went out and bought myself a different modem that allowed me to use what is called, "NAT Type 2" which is still perfectly safe, only NAT Type 2 allows everything to run smoothly so that you can enjoy your gaming and internet experience. When I bought my new modem I hooked it up and configured it. I hopped onto GTA Online and I was always put into a session with many players.

If you have a Playstation 3 and want to figure out what, "NAT Type" you have then go to, "Network Settings", then go do an, "Internet Connection Test". Wait to see if everything turns out alright. The results should look like this, (below)

Obtain IP Address - Succeeded

Internet Connection - Succeeded

PlayStation Network - Succeeded

UPnP - (results don't really matter)

NAT Type - (Should be Type 1 or Type 2)

Connection Speed (Download)* (Depends)

Connection Speed (Upload)* (Depends)

If you can't even obtain the IP address then your NAT is so strict that it wont let your Playstation 3 even complete the first step. NAT Type 3 is bad and you want to try to change it. To learn how to change it look up on Google, "How to get NAT Type 2". Also it would be a good idea to give your Internet Service Provider a call. Sorry for all of the Xbox users I do not and have never owned an Xbox. If you have any questions for me just ask I will do my best to help as I can feel your frustration.

I posted this weeks ago.

Edit: Hope it helps.

I have tried this, Nat type is always the first to cop the blame lol. But my Nat type is 2, so that isn't the issue. Very frustrating, it would be great if I could play with my friends, but right now I would settle for anyone!

Getting bored with trying now, p***ing me right off!!

Have you tried resetting the router?

I kniw it sounds generic, but it might actually help in this case. But it may not as well.

What happens is, the router will cache DNS and map out traffic to improve network response. Over time, this cache can become outdated, stale and fail to update.

Resetting the router will clear all this out and allow the router to rebuild these caches.

If this doesnt help and having NAT 2, then it probably the matchmaking.

For me, its even worse, as I dont have a router per se. My internet is through my phone routed through my laptop. Once I get the DHCP server installed and combined with the DNS server, it will essentially be a router and should give me a NAT 2. Right now, I'm on a Nat 3 because the IP between the phone, laptop and PS3 are on different Gateways. Lame.

And now I am on my own again! Why does this keep happening? Surely it can't just be me?!?!?!?!

Oh and I did try resetting my router, made not the slightest bit of difference.

PLEASE HELP MEEEEEE!!!!!!
