Is $2,147,483,647 the maximum amount of money?

I've noticed I can no longer profit off the stock market after hitting this amount. Is this a bug or is this the max amount?

Yeah probably, seen that number a lot of times on games.

Call of Duty hacked leaderboards for example...

Care to share why you are asking this? :rol:

Someone find the release date of GTA VI in those digits.

It's just a funny amount and not a release date for Gta 6.

its more money that you would ever need in the game...

No it's not! If I play for 12 hours straight, every day for the next 23 months, dying once per minute...I will be out of money! What am I supposed to do then? I'll be bored of dying and I wont have any money.

Then you should play a different game, as this one clearly isn't for you.

That is the maximum value possible in a 32-bit system. (2^32).

They should have made it 4 8 15 16 23 42. Then added some other kind of steps you had to do, maybe involving a hatch and then called it the "Lost" easter egg and made it into an achievment. LOL. Something is better than nothing. Right? LOL

Was just gonna say that. Technical limitation, I don't think Rockstar expected anyone to go over 1 billion.

That is the maxium value possible in a 32-bit system. (2^32).

As I previously wrote this is the max value for a 32 bit *signed* integer. If it were unsigned (no negative values) the max value would be 4,294,967,295 (2^32 _possible_ numbers not 2^32 as the max value)

Also a 32 bit system has 32 bit registers. It does not mean the system can't work with 64 or higher bit variables. It just means it will be slower.

GTA V has a 32 bit system, once you go over that 2,147,xxx,xxx you will go into negatives and not be able to spend money.

yes it does, once you go over that number you go into negatives,I think you misread. A 32 bit signed integer does in my experience tend to go negative when you go past 2,147,483,647 and I didn't write anywhere previously that it didn't.

I say tends to go negative because that can be affected by the platform so when writing multi-platform code you consider the behavior undefined to be safe.

Edit: It just occurred to me you might think a 32 bit system can only work with 32 bit numbers. If that were true the hard drive would have a 4 gig limit. A 32 bit system deals with 64 bit data by working with 32 bit chunks.

Well I did some digging around and it seems before a prior update, after you hit that amount of money it indeed went to $-1 and you'd be stuck there forever, it's fixed now of course I can spend money. As for why I would want to get any more money, it's just fun playing the stocks is all. It was quite easy to get this amount, I still haven't even finished all of Lester's missions yet and still haven't taken the Tinkle broker to the airport. Here's a tip, Badger fluctuates between $4-11-ish put everything you have in it when it's $4. It's a lot more profitable than any of Lester's missions. Although my first $144million came from Pisswasser stocks and then I did 2 of Lester's missions to push me to 800 million then it was easy sailing to max money. This is probably why R* hasn't released Bawsaq for online yet.

  • 3 weeks later...

*I didn't realize they had fixed this already. I only just tried it again and hadn't made a very recent save, so it's nice it no longer goes negative.
