Anyone here work/worked at Paneras?

Recommended Posts

universetwisters

Seeing as next week the swim season is over and I'll have a good amount of free time after school, I've been thinking about gettin a job. One of these places, as the title implies, is Paneras. If you don't know what it is, think of Starbucks, but with assorted pastries instead of coffee.

My question is, how do I get the job, and what're the conditions like? I haven't had a "legit" job before, aside from working in landscaping and being paid under the table, so I'm a little nervous on how/why the workforce is like in the food industry. Any help, tips, etc. are welcome

Apply online whenever you get the chance. I've never worked there, but I've applied. I forgot if you needed experience in retail/the food industry, though.

A lot of places require online applications, especially retail, but I'm not sure about Panera, honestly. I applied online since it was easier. I have 6 months of experience in retail (Kmart) and they didn't even reply to me.

You will either be a cashier, sandwich/soup/salad line, or a baker.

If you want to get a leg up, pay the 100$ to go take a 1 day food service safety manager course in your area (Serv-safe usually) and you'll stand out far ahead of others since every establishment like this has to have one on site at all times.

Will I have to cut my hair or put it under a cap?

Most likely a cap, I think your biggest issue isn't losing hair into food, more the hair scaring off potential employers, it tends to have that effect. I'd ask them about it if you can get an interview.

Well, it's a 'people' business. Looking like a guy that spend his weekends in a crack house doesn't exactly help your cause. So yeah, a cap or rather a cut would be the way to roll.

What if I put it up in a ponytail? I've seen the girls at the paneras down the road from me do that.

The one near me is always busy with the people behind the counter constantly doing things, not just standing behind the register.

If possible, avoid food service. I've worked 2 jobs with kitchen duties (a pizza joint and a McDonald's) and they're simply awful. The pay is almost always minimum and the work is demeaning (cleaning the toilets at McDonalds was always a treat). Try getting a job at Best Buy or a book store, where you don't have to mess with food and being sweaty all the time.

I'm at a movie theater right now (well, I'm on school leave at the moment) doing box office cashier work and it's so easy that it's almost maddening. Whenever you have usher duty all you have to do is sweep everywhere and you can pretty much get away with standing in an auditorium for a half hour enjoying a movie while on the clock.

Regardless of how absolutely disgusting Pantera bread is, I've heard they're pretty good to their employees.
