Murad96
In GTA 6, will the bricks actually be 3D and not just be a texture like in GTA V? Will it have bump mapping?

saintsrow
I think you are talking about GTA: Minecraft ? You could get started building that today. EDIT: I thought the bumpmapping on bricks and tiles and cracks in the asphalt is looking great. Relative to other polygon resource hogs, I don't see the need for making individual bricks. MORE EDIT: Given the further discussion below, I agree with the OP that some kind of improved bumpmapping over a few low-rez polygons would help maintain a sense of the HD high fidelity surfaces. Many textures (bricks, tiles, vents, cracks, rivetheads etc) look great during casual gameplay, but as you move to low view angles, you can see that the surface is actually flat and the shading was all baked on in the texture, and the bumpmaps disappear. It gives you a sudden deflating feeling regarding the environmental realism that your brain thought was there. GUCCI_MANE_PIZZA_PARTY
What I want to know is will there be actual curves? Look at the edge of a sidewalk when the road is curving. It's not an actual curve. Just smaller straight lines. Could anyone tell me why that is? Another example is the apples in Michael's house.

But I wonder why they can't just simply add polygons, with no graphical technique like that, just like they did with Xbox/PS2 to Xbox 360/PS3. VolkXue
They have done some nice texture work in this game to save room, from a design standpoint they did a good job.
lizardman563
I was gonna write a long, elongated and elaborate reply to this nonsense but then I realized that I don't need to so I erased all that bullsh*t. I can summarize what I think in two sentences: I don't give a f*ck about bricks. Really, I don't. Edited October 28, 2013 by lizardman563

Dope_0110
First of all there is already bump mapping in GTA. That's a technique that's been used for years now in any game that came out and it's purpose it to make a flat surface appear like it's not. Such places are road cracks, walls etc... So we already have that. As for having 3D models.. there's really no need for that. Just look at GTA IV with mods on PC. It looks almost photorealistic, and all that is done with the original models and most of original textures. All that makes the difference is lighting and some post-processing that makes the image more realistic. So in future games expect to see that, not developers wasting time making 3D brick in buildings.

Apex
Wait for the PC version? Max Payne 3 on consoles looked awful compared to the PC version. For example, I immediately noticed the lack of tessellation on his beard when I got the 360 version, it was just a flat texture. Little things like this only make it to the PC version
MindCorrupt
Grand Theft Auto is now a console dominant title, the game is always going to be limited by the hardware that comes with them. I dont think we'll ever see another jump in graphics as we did from 2 to III and San Andreas to GTA IV but I do beleive we will see a lot of improvement in the lighting, draw distance, more defined character models etc. I honestly cant wait for V to come to PC, were really going to see how this game can look if console hardware wasnt always playing catch up.
