Help Finding And Tuning The Best Offroad Car/Truck?

I have missed out on the Merryweather Mesa, which is clearly the best, so I need to get something that will come close or match it in terms of off road climbing and downhill abilities. Ideally, the car will have to have a high ground clearance, and be able to get to the top of Chilliad unaided and not miraculously, this will have to be 4WD, as my needs demand it.

And no, a fully tuned Adder isn't going to impress the hill climbing community...

used mine to climb up to the shelf above the spaceship part on Mt Josiah. if that says anything for its capabilities.

if you know what im talking about then it should.

In my experience, the Rancher is a bit under powered and doesn't really have much by way of ground clearance. I've had great luck with the Sandking (XL or SWB doesn't really matter, XL just has an extra pair of doors). It has plenty of power for climbing mountains, and it has enough ground clearance to drive over guard rails without so much as twitching. It's also very durable and comes with a bunch of options, although I'd skip things like the auxiliary gas tanks and the front skid plate since they cost you a bunch of ground clearance.

The Karin Rebel is also a good option but I've found it to be more suited to baja-esque fast driving over rough ground rather than outright climbing. Still, it is not a bad way to go.

You can find the Sandking XL on the beach immediately south of the Del Perro pier next to some jet skis and a Sprunk jump. The Rebel frequently spawns in the lumber mill parking lot.

Michael has SXL, fully tuned too, should give it a try later, and il keep my eyes peeled for a rancher!

Yes they are indeed, but if it climbs rocks and Chilliad better than a 4WD, then it will have to do, right?

Im looking into the rebels...

I didn't believe that the Sandking was actually RWD, so I took it out and tried to roll it on its back to find out. What I learned is that it's f*cking impossible to get a Sandking to roll over.

(Also, it actually is RWD. This is news to me, since it certainly doesn't act like it.)

the rebel is very nice, as noted...you might also check out the benefactor dubsta (mercedes gelande wagen), very capable 4wd and it is built like a tank

I actually found a Rebla the minute I started looking, tuned it and gosh it is very impress, has climbed Chilliad very quickly (no roads approach)

But the Dubsta (G-Wagon) is a great offroader in real life, so im going to give Franklin an Offroad car too! (Michael got SXL, Trevor got Rebla, Franklin got G Wagon)

Get in a cop car dude. One of the sherriff's ones parked along side the freeway. Steal one of those and taking off-roading. You'll have the most fun you've ever had in your life bro!!!!!

Just tried Trevors Bodhi, and it does actually climb it, just about thought and requires all my skills to keep it from stalling...

Theres no 4WD in the game. At least I havent figured out how to turn on the 4WD.

I actually tried driving backwards in the sandking to activate it, but it didnt work.

Rebel 4x4 every day. :p

Looks so badass when fully modded, it makes it look exactly like a trophy truck.

There is. Take a truck like the Rebel, flip it on its back, wait for the wheels to stop spinning, and give it some gas. All four wheels spin. The issue is that the 4WD isn't actually very good, with open diffs all around and the only traction control being your "foot" and gravity.

Have you tried out the BF Injection yet?
There is one parked next to a dirtroad at that lake east of Los Santos.

Easier test is to hold parking brake and gas from a stop, let the engine rev out, then release on pavement, or a steep Hill. You will see smoke and skid marks from the front on pavement, and on the Hill, you can see the front wheels actually being powered buy the engine, and not just turning as the car moved forward.

Anyone know how to get a clean rebel?

As far as I know, it's just the luck of the spawn. Go where Rebels usually spawn and keep your eyes peeled. Keep in mind that the clean version is lacking the cool bed mods and possibly a few other things.

Has anyone tried the bravado dumploader? With no mods I had it goin straight up a hill. Geared super low so it climbs but not alot of speed; however, like I said it wasn't upgraded at all.

The Mercedes G wagon is my online car and it's amazing off road. It also takes a beating better than most other off road cars. Seems to have the torque to get up most things as well.

The g wagon and the bf injection are my two favs

Harwood-Butcher

I always liked the sandking just becuase it's hard to roll over.

1) He wants an offroad vehicle, not a suggestion on whats fun.

2) People won't read your posts when you use 'dude' and 'bro'

That was a totally sarcastic post. The Cop car is HANDS DOWN the very very worst Off-Road vehicle that you could use. It is NOT fun driving around in it off of a paved road.

I would recommend getting a Mesa, easy to get in Online if you know what your doing.
I also recommend the Dubsta because it is AWD. Which I have in my garage.
http://gta.wikia.com/Dubsta

I own a Rebel 4x4 going for the baja look. I also know where the Rebel 4x4 clean version spawns. But you can't mod it like the rusty/dirty version.

I own Trevors truck and it's pretty good for off roading or going over mountains but isn't the fastest, but it's very durable can take a good beating.
I also have a Sandking SWB, great for off roading also, because it sits so high it can go over go high bumps on hills that most other off roads struggle with.
The Merryweather Canis Mesa is the bomb, it's perfect for off roading and has a good lift kit on it. It's built like a beast/tank and can take a good beating, also with turbo it's a mountain eater.

I would recommend a Sandking XL/SWB, A Rebel 4x4, or a Merryweather Canis Mesa.

The BeeJay, its pretty weak with no upgrades, so I can't imagine it being better than a Rebla etc.

The Canis Mesa is a no go for me, missed out on that mission.

Will look into the Dubsta
