Why does this game not have a speedo?

Seriously, there's very few racing/driving games that don't have one and GTA has always chosen not to have one. Why is that? Anyone with inside info know? I've always been curious/annoyed by the lack of a speedometer.

Your speed isn't important when you have to focus on throwing the sticky bombs at other vehicles.

Because then you would see that all cars basically top out at the same speed because these sh*tty old consoles can't load textures fast enough to move across the map any faster.

Okay a speedometer, that is something completely different from speedo. When I started reading this thread I was honestly trying to remember a single racing game I have played that had speedos in it, then I got to the last word, speedometer.

A speedometer I would definitly like to have, the speed is apparently tracked somewhere, so why not give us a digital read out so we can see it and use it to better judge turns, ect..
