The thing that made it great was that because there were no missions and such people were more willing and enthusiastic about creating the their own fun, however because GTA Online has so much missions and content people seem to forget how to do this and then complain when they get bored of the content that R* has created for us! Seriously, the stupidity and ignorance of some people on these very boards is mind boggling. Since when did 16 players in a lobby mean "massive multiplayer", and since when did you actually role-play? If you want to see an MMORPG go and log onto Runescape. Really, go log-on. It's not a very good MMORPG but it is at least the very definition of one, with thousands of people on a server at once in a map larger than GTA V, and it's free to play so go and get yourselves informed. I'm guessing by the same logic that Battlefield 4 will be an MMORPG too? You know, since the maps are large and there are going to be 64 players in a game, and you can choose a class? No it does, as that's the very definition of an MMO like someone already posted. That's like saying "Just because pizza was made in Italy, it doesn't make it Italian". You can't change the definition of something to something that it isn't. For an MMO to be an MMO a large amount of players have to be simultaneously playing in one server (or lobby in this case). In Runescape there can be a max of 2000 people in a server at one time. You're comparing 2000 players, to 16 players. Runescape is an MMO. GTA Online is not. Levels meant nothing, it took actual skill (if you played without auto-aim) to do good in a shootout. You didn't run the risk of losing your money just from dying. It might not be as huge as V's, but I find it way better. sh*t, you could actually free roam with friends without having to worry about losing tons of money, you also had tons of interiors to have shootouts in, and most importantly......THE COPS WILL NOT HARASS YOU! You could just host your own session, or you can go passive. GTA IV was fun in its own right and same with GTA V. I do wish that there was more of a free roam, in a sense that you wouldn't be penalized and lose money. You rarely lose money, and there is TONS of money available, I don't see why the money thing keeps coming up. If you didn't need/care-about money in GTA IV, then just play GTA Online as if you don't need money either. You're still able to play online. You know what I mean, a mode where you don't loose all your money when you die and can actually f*ck around without worrying about loosing all your money or bad sports, etc. Like the free roam/mode or whatever in gtaIV. Well yeah but as I've already said above, what does it matter.... just play the game in free roam and who cares if you lose a bit of money, I mean any cash you lose is made up again so quickly. We get to store cars and explore a much more diverse map than we did in GTA IV... while still having all the same game modes and much more flexibility in how we play them. I think people are just confused by GTA Online. It's just so big and expansive that people are freaked out. In a year's time the people who genuinely "get" it will be having the time of their lives in a wonderful online game which will only get better. I meet some of the coolest people in 4. Grievers make me do an invite only and when I want to public I just sit in my tank and wait. They come lol The new Batman is sick as hell though.
