Bad sport is optional

So... I keep see'ing threads from people complaining about bad sport.

So here is a public announcement for all you out there who keep "accidentally" blowing up other players cars all night and getting dunced.

 

Quite simply (ps3 at least), all you need to do is hit the power button on your console as soon as you see the bad sport notification and dunce hat.

I have done this three times over the last few days (since I got my tank...) and logged right back into normal lobbies like nothing happened.

 

 

Disclaimer: Yes, there is some very low probability of corrupting your save. So far, no issues though.

Just quit the game. I do it all the time when I'm rolling with my tank and people intentionally drive their cars into me

I did this quite a lot of times, until one time I got bad sport, turned off my system for the day, got back on the next to find out I was a bad sport. Shocker.

some times is is accidentally I never got bad sport but i did blow up two peoples cars accidentally it only happened twice but fist time he was shooting at me and same with the second but i had a bounty on my head and crash into a wall so I throw some sticky bombs to blow him up and it said bad sport so what i am saying how do you know if its there car you don't.

I think I've blown up two personal cars in all the time I've played. Three times if you count the time I was about to be hit by someone doing 100mph and I moved at the last second... he went flying into the water LOL

What the game needs is an explicit counter showing how many more violations you have before being declared a bad sport. This would clear up 75% of concerns IMO

Yeah well when I use a grenade against a bunch of cops and three assholes try to ram me with cars at the same time I don't think I'm going to be able to avoid blowing them up.

 

You can't just say "Don't blow up cars" because there are way too many random cases where you will accidentally blow up a car. For example I was driving my friends car during a missions and was trying to protect him while he was driving a truck to the mission end. I shoot a car following him and it blows up but takes me with it but somehow I get bad sport. Is that fair? No it's not.

this, sometimes you just want to/ have to blow up a car

but if I know my bad sports rating is nearly filled up I'd be more carefull.

also I don't get how I get bad sports after blowing up 3 cars when there are people who blow up 8 of my personal vehicles in one game :S

Just dashboarding it on the 360 works. Had it happen twice now. Obviously it corrupts the save as someone said but I'd rather that than have you that dunce cap. It was cool for like 5 seconds then I thought f*ck it, dashboard time. If I purposely destroyed peoples cars then I would take the punishment but it's idiots on missions who drive into your explosives after you've thrown them. It all added up eventually and gave me bad sport. I thought it had to be in a short space of time.

This would be cool. Maybe take a car off every hour of game play or something.

Does anyone know yet if your bad sport counter decays? Is it like blow up 10 cars? Or blow up 10 cars in a week? Basically I'm asking if it resets at some point, or will everyone eventually end up with a cap?

When you hit the power button on the ps3 it does a quick shutdown process, so this won't happen. It only does a hard off if you unplug it or hold the power button for a few seconds.

 

Didn't know if only quitting the game would be quick enough, but that is good to know!

 

For the person asking about the timer resetting. I blew up people's cars all night, got the cap and turned off. Then was getting my 1k "good behavior" award the next night.
